My family & I really recommend Palm Villas. Sometimes even if you're willing, even if you have the room, even though it's expensive, having an aging parent(s) move out of their home & into yours, ahead is one of the biggest challenges there is, because of a parent's infirmities, restrictions, limitations, requirements but hold on if it's Dementia. It becomes impossible to offer everything they need on a 24hr. basis. Sometimes they're combative, unwilling to bathe, or put up with you, their caregivers. As is the nature of Dementia, other times they're sweet & recognizable. It's a psychological roller coaster for all involved. Then parents need professional help most often in a facility; it's time to help them live their best life.. there are specific Memory Care facilities, like Palm Villas in San Jose, CA 95124. From Michelle, Myra, Jimena, Blyth, Veronica, and the entire blessed care staff... these people represent the best chance of residents enjoying their lives again. They offer programs, all meals, activities, games, snacks, entertainment, learning, movies, personal care tailored to each resident & more. Alzheimers is awful! Since my family had the fortune of receiving the recommendation for mom's care from a geriatric care manager for Palm Villas, I wanted to pass along this precious recommendation to you. My mom became my dependent, and I was wildly protective of her. Making the decision to transfer to her to a facility (heart breaking) was wrought with indecision and insecurity. My mom has just passed after 3 years in Palm Villas' care. I thank God that she was so well provided for, loved and appreciated for the person she was at Palm Villas. I am writing this to the readers who, like me, are devastated by this condition and fret you will put your loved one in a mediocre residence. Palm Villas was nothing but loving, responsive and professional. Interestingly, many outside providers (nurses and the like) privately told me how superior Palm Villas is to other facilities. I didn't have the benefit of this "insiders" information when making this decision, but I am leaving it for you. Lastly, I am praying for anyone who reads this that God equips them with strength and hope, and to find beauty in the ashes during this difficult disease journey. I only have one question for this place..... Why are there only 7 reviews for this place? Additionally, every single review for this place is over 10 years old. Why? My mother in law was illegally declared incapacitated by a Kaiser doctor who was not her primary care physician, and produced only a note indicating she was not capable of handling her financial affairs. Her own daughters did this to her and there was never any court hearing or examination to declare her incapacitated. Then they took her to Palm Villas in Campbell where they immediately started a tranquilizer regimen where she could no longer stay coherent. 6 months later, they stopped the tranquilizers and she is coming out of it slowly, and starting to talk. She has no idea what her daughters have done during the 6 months of chemical abuse unleashed upon her by this facility. She just st wants to go home, her home. No one will listen to her. She hasn't a clue that her home of over 60 years is no longer her home. And all of her belongings have been thrown away or taken. Strangers are now living in her home, paying over $5K a month in rent. Her accounts have been drained, property deeds transfered to her own greedy daughters, and they only visit her occasionally when they are in town for the ballet. This facility played a crucial role in enabling her daughters to bamboozle her and they continue to keep everything on the hush. This facility accepts kickbacks and hush money while the elderly client suffers in isolation and confusion. She thinks she is in a locked facility and cannot leave on her own. They only allow certain family members to visit her, Only the ones who are part of this horrible abuse scheme and are being paid to keep quiet. read more

A true hidden gem! Palm Villas is a medium sized memory care facility that is large enough to provide all the services you need and small enough to maintain a family atmosphere. After a 6 year battle with cancer my wife's cognitive abilities declined, and her care requirements increased to the point that I was no longer capable of caring for her. I researched both large and small care facilities and I'm so relieved that I discovered Palm Villas. She has been there for almost 4 months now. The first thing that impressed me is that it is so clean and smells nice. I have a friend who is a retired RN who has visited many facilities throughout her career and she said she has never seen a facility as clean as PV. I was also impressed that during our tour the owner not only knew every resident by name, but also their likes and dislikes along with much of their personal history. It is a locked facility, but they try to allow each resident to have as much freedom as possible. There is a large courtyard shaded by an oak tree where residents can get outside and enjoy the fresh air and watch the birds and squirrels. They also have daily activities to keep the residents mentally and physically engaged. Residents are encouraged to participate to their own ability, but are not required to do so. Palm Villas treats each resident as a unique individual. Since my wife has moved in every care giver I have met has been both competent and had a great attitude. Maintaining a staff like this is very difficult to do. Palm Villas has provided me with peace of mind that my wife is being well cared for now that I am no longer able to do so. I can't recommend Palm Villas highly enough. read more

The best advice received was this: the best fit is where your loved one fits on their worst day. I researched/ visited 10 facilities, leaving NO stone unturned, for placement in 0-3 months. Wanted the absolute BEST care for my father. The money spent is worth my peace of mind. Dr. Steinke is experienced, readily available and open to collaborating on care. It would be too difficult to get him to a doctors office. Two things were important to me: consistency and staff. CONSISTENCY: Most places move your loved out if they become too much care, but PV keeps them until the end, without having to coordinate another move to a nursing home. This is their "home" and you can see that in the design/layout, roommate choice and how the residents are treated. I did not want to move him, creating more confusion with this cruel disease. The decline caused by dementia is heart breaking to watch. Once vibrant beings with stories to tell, withdraw from the world as they sink deeper into the state of confusion, forgetting family, friends & the life they had. STAFF: most are long term staff, with key positions held by Brisa (exec dir) and Jimena (med supervisor). TRUST them. They are the 10 + year "heart and soul" of making this place run smoothly, interfacing with the doctors, staff, hospice, PT, labs, pharmacy & more. The staff (including kitchen, facilities & laundry personnel) are patient, skilled and attentive, which you would expect, but it's MORE than that. It's the extra effort. It's Jimena advocating on my fathers behalf for medicine changes or listening to me cry about my father's decline. It's the manicure provided by the director during the COVID lockdown (something my father had regularly prior to placement) or the enticing they do to get the resident to engage or eat. Theresa (dir of activities) is remarkable, and was first introduced to PV when her mother was a resident there. Theresa comes up with engaging group activities and takes the time to do 1:1 activities or find THEIR interest. My father is more of a loner & I arrived one day during COVID to drop off supplements (no visitors) and observed her with my father in the atrium, looking at the birds/ parrots they have in the bird atrium. She was holding a cushion above his head, shielding the sun from his eyes, so he could get the optimal view & pointing. Neither of them knew I was there. It's what happens when no one is watching that counts. Theresa has brought in sand timers, picture books, puzzles and stuffed animals. My father loves to show his pictures or stuffed animals to me over a FaceTime and it's something that does not require him to use memory. Prior to COVID, I had been there at all hours, all shifts for hours at a time, because it was a difficult transition for my father, myself & my work schedule. It's those little things they come up with that melt your heart. Sometimes they take a seat, just to talk. You start to feel like it is your second home, too, caring about the other residents. There, of course, are things you want down differently as you feel out of control. They handle your questions, concerns & recommendations with such grace. Never defensive, always collaborative. The building layout is such that it's not confusing; big enough so it feels spacious, but yet small enough so it feels intimate, like a "home." Hospice was a difficult decision to agree to at first, but it was the right one. Getting regular updates from the RN has been comforting, addressing his needs for comfort. The food is delicious and family members can eat with their loved one. I appreciate how they monitor intake and the likes/dislikes. The care provided by PV Campbell is NOT care I could have replicated at home in any meaningful way. As a retired RN, I am writing this because I want other families to feel comforted, like I needed when I was looking. Sadly,I have a retired Pastor friend who lives here but thankfully he gets great care! I went to visit him a few times the staff was friendly,helpful and this place seems peaceful and nurturing.They do activities and keep the patients busy with community fun things and i watched it all for a few hours with my friend.Sad but cozy if that makes sense. read more

I am disappointed with the changes recently made at Palm Villa (formerly Mission Villa) by the new ownership group. Most of the staff was let go and replaced with new staff. Although the new caregivers are competent, the new management group significantly decreased the staffing ratios of caregivers to patients. read more

My name is Elinor and I had to write this down to tell you about my amazing experience at a alzheimers facility. You hear on t.v. and radio all the time about people being mistreated and beaten and raped. This may be true in some places but I want you to know about this place. I was in for 3 months. I shouldn't have been there for I was not an alzheimers patient. I was there because I had a stroke and I needed full time care. I give it a 4 star rating to this place because of the loving care to each individual patient. I mean they take time to comfort and talk to each patient daily and come to work with a smile and singing. They have a program each day to keep patients busy all day. From my initial interaction with Gary to seeing the way the staff worked with each other and the residents, I knew I was in a caring environment with folks who just want to do the right thing. We were in a very urgent situation for my Uncle who has dementia.. Gary and his staff made the transition easy and trusting which is what a family needs going thru such a difficult time. I recently took a tour of this place and it was scary. I researched and visited many facilities to find a place for a relative who has Alzheimer's and this place was by far the worst. The facility was outdated and cold. The headboards on the residents beds were old and falling apart. All the residents share rooms and 4 people (men and women) share a conjoined bathroom between two rooms. The bathrooms do not have a shower. There is one shower down the hall that all the residents share. The food looked and smelled horrible. They were very understaffed and the staff looked overwhelmed. There was no variety of things for the residents to do to keep stimulated. They had only one activity going on which was singing and the rest of the residents were sitting alone in their rooms and in the hallways. One resident kept crying out that she was cold from her bed. The biggest red flag was when the director of the facility suggested that we should switch our relatives doctor to one they recommend so that they could prescribe sedatives to calm the resident down. My relative has a good geriatric physician who says they would never prescribe an Alzheimer's patient with any type of sedative because they could easily fall and hurt themselves very bad. A good doctor will work with an Alzheimer's patient to find psychiatric medications that will relax them without the harsh sedative effects of Benzodiazepines. I ended up placing my relative in a different facility that was actually cheaper than Palm Villa. My relative has their own room, bathroom and shower. The room also has its own A/C and heater so the temperature can be set at what feels comfortable to the resident. The residents are assigned a caretaker to take care of them and take them to different activities. I always know who is responsible for my relative. They can also order off a menu and choose what they want to eat. To have a private room at Palm Villa is very expensive. I just don't understand how they can charge so much for what little service they provide. Seriously do your research and you will find much better facilities for the same amount they charge or less. But the director will try to convince you otherwise!! This place still gives me nightmares!! read more
