[[HIGHLIGHT]]Initially, the paralegal Nancy assured me their office would file before my ex-husband and that there were several advantages to filing first.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was charged fees to file and associated charges to put together the documentation. I'm not looking at the immediate timeline on it, but about over a month or two later I was surprised at my door, at night by a large male process server, an alarming situation for a single woman. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I finally heard back from the paralegal and complained they might have warned me as my ex filed at least a month ago AND there was no record of my lawyer having filed as my representation. The paralegal admitted she dropped the ball.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I challenged their billing, they subsequently admitted they significantly overcharged me. As for my case, I sent them a detailed outline of my situation, but each time they seem to be unaware of key details of my case. I was told by someone on staff that several lawyers quit without making arrangements for clients or making anyone aware and "everyone was overworked and had too much on their plate." They did not seem to want to advocate for me and pushed me to accept deals that were not even approaching equitable. When we were finally done, the offices sent me a proof of a decree that included none of what was agreed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally, there were several glaring errors that could have had significant long term consequences had i not caught them. Today was a major deadline and I have not heard from my lawyer despite 3 emails to their office. I hope this will save someone the trouble that I have had, so please read on. I hired Palmer Law Group (the soft divorce people) to take care of my divorce. I had caught my wife cheating and asked for their help. After an initial phone call I hired them to represent me. I later had a face to face meeting with Dana Palmer at which time we agreed upon a strategy to achieve my goals in the divorce. The meeting was a complete waste of time for me because the palmer law group never produced any work product in the effort to achieve my goals. They sent the work to another attorney in Houston who was working on my case. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After numerous phone calls with Anna Freeman, I ended up settling for what the opposing counsel offered to us on a temporary order or rule 11.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So no work. I ended up with a 14 day notice to see my son, which is usually reserved for parents that require supervision. I did not, as there were no allegations of abuse etc.. The bills kept coming from Palmer Law Group and I kept paying them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After speaking with Dana Palmer on the phone regarding our negotiations with opposing counsel he asked me to draft 3 or more letters in support of what we were supposed to be asking for all along.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I sent the 3 letters and drafted them in such a way that Dana could have easily made a few changes that would have sufficed to send to opposing counsel. Several weeks later, I had still received no work product regarding these letters. They were not even reviewed or sent to O/C. Then came the deadline imposed by the rule 11. We were backed into a corner into mediation. We agreed from the outset that Dana, Myself and Anna Freeman did not want to go to mediation. The day before the agreed mediation appointment I was called by their billing department asking me to deposit another $7,500 for mediation prep. I flatly declined to pay. I told the person from billing that there was no way I was paying $7,500 less than 24 hours before mediation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A short while later I got a call from Dana Palmer and during the course of the call he raised his voice to me to tell him how much money I have left.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was surreal. I hung up the phone and after speaking with him and sent an email to Dana terminating his service. I then had to cancel the mediation and hire another attorney. The current attorney charged less than 20% of the fees that PLG charged. My current attorney explained that most of the big city attorneys use billing software that charges for every little thing they do or even talk about doing. Your bills will show every phone call, email, copy etc.. During my first meeting with Dana Palmer, I was told about the health benefits of Young Living's Frankincense oil. Dana suggested it as a way to naturally ease stress. When I did a quick search on Amazon to find the product, he told me that it was probably an imposter product and that I should order it from his wife. They later sent me a link. Seriously? I wish he would have worried more about my divorce. Every time Dana had an opportunity to put more money in his pocket or that of his friends, he jumped on it. When I told him about my VA disability benefits, he wanted me to use his friend who he said is the best in the country. When I told him that I already had someone he asked me how much I paid and told me his guy could do it better. Another time, Dana needed valuations on our two homes and suggested that I use his realtor friend to get the values. I had to pester the realtor, and finally I used a realtor friend of my own to get the values. I have checked with the Texas State Bar Association, which may offer some relief. If you feel you have been victimized by these attorneys there is a way to lodge complaints against them. I have filed complaints against the attorneys involved with the Palmer Law Group and my divorce case for violating several rules of the State Bar Association. Namely, rule 1.04 Fees. (a) A lawyer shall not enter into an arrangement for, charge, or collect an illegal fee or unconscionable fee. A fee is unconscionable if a competent lawyer could not form a reasonable belief that the fee is reasonable. These people also violated rule 1.05 of confidentiality. THEY SENT ALL MY DISCOVERY INFORMATION TO MY SPOUSE AFTER I FIRED THEM!!!! I hope this will save someone some grief. I wish I had known about their tactics before using them. An unimaginable nightmare. They say they are the home of soft divorce, but this firm made an already hard time in my life so much harder. From attorneys showing up late to court hearings (30 min late) therefore granted opposing counsel a continuance on an already 3 year long divorce, to refusing to put infidelity as the reason for divorce (after agreeing to do it multiple times), to charging me hundreds of dollars every time I had to pick up the phone call to correct their errors, to telling me "do you really think he's gonna take the kids that much?" when I suggest they were granting my neglectful parent of an ex too much custody...the whole experience was a painful nightmare. Even last minute details of sending my divorce papers to the wrong address (after they confirmed the correct address with me by phone). There were CONSTANT paperwork errors, leading to 3 separate court dates. The judge himself told them there were too many errors and therefore he could not grant our divorce. My parents recommended this firm to me because Dana Palmer himself had handled their previous marriages and had done a decent job. However, they now completely regret their decision to suggest his firm. It sounds like he was a good attorney in his day, but is clueless in leading his staff. Would not recommend. Hired as a Divorce Lawyer and cost and didn't even make it to final trial. Got 3 different lawyers throughout that process and charged me money everytime to go over the same details. Expect late night calls the day before the hearing/ trial while it's thrown together. I waited over a year to write this review. Now that my case is closed, I would like to provide some feedback so that others can make an informed decision regarding representation. Don't be fooled by the good reviews, Dana asks his clients to write reviews with an emphasis on 5 stars. He suggested that numerous times, even before our hearing. There is a reason Dana Palmer, INC specializes in Soft Divorce. Dana and his team are certainly not equipped to handle a hard case. When I initially met with Dana, his pitch was great. He was saying all of the right things and I was convinced he would be able to represent me accordingly. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I paid Dana a $10k flat fee that would cover the following: - Up to 9 months, - 30 hours of work, or - The entry of a final order. In the two months that Dana represented me, I spent $10k with very little progress. Dana appeared uninterested in my case and was unprepared for our hearing. He overlooked errors and failed to know the details of my case. I had to repeatedly tell him the same information over and over. Dana did not prepare me for the hearing and I was caught off guard by his questions and there were exhibits I had never seen. Dana also failed to stand multiple times when addressing the Judge. When Dana's one and only approach during our hearing did not work, there was no back up plan and ultimately we lost. I was embarrassed by his performance in the courtroom. It was clear that Dana had not prepared. In the end, I ended up having to fire Dana and his team after only two months. Perhaps instead of focusing on how many stars he wants, Dana should focus his efforts on listening and learning the case. read more

This law firm is very unorganized. I had to find another attorney and my retainer was lost. I was told there were two paralegals on staff and I ended up working primarily with a college student working there for the summer. A document did not get sent to my ex-spouse's attorney, even though there was a letter requesting this document which held up my divorce for 3 weeks. The communication was poor as well. read more

I had a friend that had hired the Dana Palmer Law Group in the past. They did a great job seeing the very difficult case to the end. However, when I went through my own custody battle, I wanted the toughest-most intimidating lawyer I could find. I didn't think it would be important to especially like them, I needed someone that would get the job done. It turned into an emotionally grueling and expensive mistake. It had been a year and a half process, but the final hearing was complete and I was waiting on the orders to be completed only for my attorney to stop returning my calls and emails. I could not get a response despite the fact that I had kept him on retainer the entire time. The last update I had received was that my case was going to be dismissed by the court if papers were not filed soon. Excuses blaming the opposing counsel were given to me, but after 3 weeks without an update I began to worry as all the emotional toil and money would have been for nothing. I called the Dana Palmer Group asking if they could finish the case for me. An attorney called me that same day and discovered that we had 6 business days before my case would be dismissed. Despite him having a full schedule, he immediately took the initiative to call the opposing counsel and started working with the courts. The lawyer was personable, proactive and made me feel at ease. He gave me consistent legal advise and was attentive to my concerns. They also have a more sufisticated and reasonable billing practice that didn't leave me feeling like a bottomless piggy bank. I could not have hired a better lawyer to represent us and what we stood for! I initially contacted Mr. Palmer about 2 1/2 years ago on a child modification case for my husband, and was blown away by Mr. Palmer and his demeanor. He seemed very personable, down to Earth and someone who really cares about what you are going through. Any time we had issues though out the case, Mr. Palmer would make sure we were taken care of, and I feel like they bent over backwards for us. The opposing party made it extremely difficult to move forward at any step, but Mr. Palmer and his staff stuck it out and fought tooth and nail for us to get the visitation my husband deserved! When her lawyer would make hateful, catty arguments through email with Mr. Palmer, he would respond in a cool, collected and very professional manner. Mr. Palmer's approach in court was not trying to make the other party look bad, but focused more on how good of a person my husband was and what he deserved.
