Came here to see a friend play on a weekday. They a lot of outdoor and indoor seating available. It was a really nice day so I ordered a beer from the counter and sat outside to enjoy the music. They had a decent beer selection and the girl that helped me was friendly and let me sample a beer before getting it. I didn't order any food so I'm looking forward to trying some of that next time. They had benches outside and it's a dog friendly place. I also loved that they had cornhole and so we got to play that as well. Sad to say this as this seems to be a fun/cool spot. From our visit yesterday (6/22/25) we were speaking to the staff and were advised this brewery is closing on the 28th. There is a potential to be saved but it needs support from the community to bring it back. We did a flight of 4 different brews which all were refreshing. If you can get out and before is closes. Our bartender here was absolutely incredible, very friendly & informative! We came here for the beer but also the food truck since we're vegetarian & they had some good options but we were highly disappointed to find out that they closed early the night we got there. They literally shut their doors as we walked up & said they were closed even though the internet & their sign said they'd be open for another 45 minutes. Luckily our bartender gave us some great recommendations. We were a 1 & done due to that. Wish we didn't have a bad experience but everything happens for a reason. The 1 beer I had was good. I recently had a great experience here with a bunch of my networking friends. We found out the night before our event that our regular spot had a broken HVAC. As you can imagine June in Charleston, you need air conditioning! Palmetto was recommended by two different people, so we made it our spot. I called the night before to let them know we'd have 20-30 people there from 4-6. The bartender was thankful I called and gave her the heads up. We had plenty of room to socialize and network. They have a large selection of beers from sours, to IPAs, to dark beers, and fruity light beers. I had a couple different beers, a cherry sour, and a pineapple light beer. Both were good and $6 for the smaller draft. A food truck is out front and opens at 5 during the week. A handful of people ordered food from our group. Palmetto has a great selection of brews and is one of the "original" Charleston breweries. It's South Carolina's oldest brewery, so it's been around long before "brewery districts" and brewery trams that run on Saturday. You'll find any style of beer here, including several small batch/limited edition brews (10 oz. pours). On my last visit, I had the small-batch Blackberry sour and really enjoyed it. A new food truck called Gobble Gobble has taken up residency here, replacing the rotating food trucks that used to park out front. Events wise, Palmetto hosts lots of craft/maker's markets, and they have live music as well as trivia on certain nights of the week. I'm not sure if there's a happy hour, but certain pints are discounted (I believe $4) before 4 PM. That makes Palmetto a great place to start drinking- and you can't drink all night if you don't start early. The only downside to Palmetto is the parking/flooding situation. The parking lot is underneath an overpass, so if it rains, it is very muddy and your car and shoes will get dirty. In addition, Huger street is known to flood, but if it's a sunny day, Palmetto is a must-visit for any beer fan. read more

When we stopped into Palmetto Brewery it was very hot and sunny; nearly all indoor seating was taken and shaded outdoor seating was taken. The indoor section was not air-conditioned so it was not overly comfortable to hang out to drink. We had just one pint as it really was hot and sticky. Palmetto was the first microbrewery in Charleston. We had the Lowcountry Lager, it was a good beer with a nice finish but nothing too special. I generally prefer IPAs and Porters but it was too hot to drink one. Overall, we liked the facility and the Lager was good but Palmetto needs another visit and more time spent there. read more

According to what we heard, this was the 1st brewery in Charleston. This place is huge with 2 separate tap house areas and an outside deck. We had the opportunity to talk with some locals that gave us great advice on where to go, what to see, and where to eat. The locals were way more friendlier than the lady that was serving us. I wanted to try the local brewery during my time here, so a local friend of mine picked me up and took me here to the Palmetto Brewery here in Charleston, South Carolina. The parking lot was kind of sketchy, especially when you had more than 2 drinks. Local breweries are fun, aren't they? It usually gives the spice of the community and the drinks are usually hard to pronounce on occasion, especially when you can't see very well after having a bunch. Needless to say that I stopped at 2 drinks for the night and can manage to walk to the car without much effort. With that said, my friend and I arrived here around 6pm. The Charleston Beer runners usually meet here for their Thursday run, so it was nice to meet some of them here at the Palmetto Brewery after they had finished. You know that saying goes, "I feel alone in a crowd of people"? It feels like that when I'm in this kind of atmosphere. Sure the beers and stuff is great, but if you're drinking alone in a pub like this, it feels like this sometimes before the people you know come back after 45 minutes. Still, I sat there on the outside area enjoying my brews and looking at my phone during the time I was alone. Guess that's how it is when you're the new guy in town. It is what it is, but its okay though. I had my brews and I was charged $15.00 for 2 drinks, which isn't terrible, but not cheap either. The overall experience here at the Palmetto Brewery was okay, even though for reasons mentioned above that being the new kid kind of sucked sometimes drinking alone. When I got to meet the other Charleston Beer runners that evening, it was nice and not as awkward, since I knew some local area runners now. What I learned about this place is that you go up to the counter were the plethora of beer names jump out at you like a billboard on steroids, order what you want, and you can ask if you want to start a tab for the night. I was glad that it wasn't raining that night, so it was almost perfect to come here. The brews were fairly good and definitely a interesting taste and departure to the usual beers and IPA's that are known for their distinctive tastes. Sometimes, change is good. The service was really touch and go that evening I was there, since the staff behind the bar was running around and I didn't know who was coming or going. It was friendly and casual. Quite interesting, but then again, I usually don't frequent the bar scene. But still, it was nice to sit here after a day of travel to relax and refresh myself with a couple beers before heading back to the hotel. During my time here, I ended up purchasing dinner from the nearby food truck, which was convenient. Food and beer makes all the difference sometimes! If you are a beer connoisseur and are in the Charleston, South Carolina area, consider coming to the Palmetto Brewery. The Palmetto Brewery is located at 289 Huger Street, Charleston, South Carolina. The parking lot area is basically underneath the I-26. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. The area seemed to be a ghost town after dark and it seemed kind of sketchy in a semi industrial area too. As far as parking goes, they literally have parking that will fit about 20 or so cars at any given time underneath I-26. Other than that, you're on street parking where you can find it. If you are big on the CARTA bus, consider the routes that are optimized for you to get here. Not sure if the DASH shuttles run through this area, but worth a shot to look and confirm. For the most part though, while I might have been a downer here, I just chalk it up to be the newbie in town and not really knowing the locals who frequent here. The ambiance was nice though and at least I got to sit at a table all to myself during the entire time I was there versus standing around with beer in hand when everyone else was sitting and chatting. They had a live band here playing while I was there, which was pretty cool too. 4.0 stars for the overall experience and the service was good too. 3.5 stars for the prices. 4.5 stars for the beer. 4.0 stars for the live band and the ambiance. I found my way towards the back to where the beer on tap was and decided to have a flight to see what I've been missing. We tried them all. A flight of 16 beers. 16 beers sounds like a lot but it's really just 2 pints, right? First thing that stuck out the most for me was the PB&J beer taste just like PB&J. I don't know how...but it did. And some other honorable mentions were the Mango IPA, white zombie and the Huger St. IPA. Didn't care for the Esp Porter. Bleh. After coming from Revelry Brewing, Palmetto was a lot quieter and more chill. It could have been because it was St. Patty's day, but I actually prefer this place more because of that. What a nice large brewery! Came here at night before they closed to grab a quick beer with the fam. Found them on yelp due to they had the highest rating as a brewery in the area. I understood why. Their beers were absolutely fantastic. Got a flight to try all the beers and my hubby got the idle speed salted lime lager. That one was awesome. My flight consisted of: Rasberry rewind: a wheat ale I can drink on any summer day in Miami. Peanut Butter Jelly time: my favorite beer I've had in a long time. Tasted just like peanut butter but not over powering. It was subtle but amazing. It was so good. I hope they bottle that and send it to Miami. West Coast DIPA which was a regular beer good nothing spectacular but solid. Last but not least the Mango ipa which had also nice flavors of mango without being over powering. Also easy to drink. The brewery itself is huge and had a lot of space. We played available board games in the game area. Our kids were able to play and mess around there. It was great. Recommend to all. read more

So we did a mini self-guided Chucktown brewery tour/crawl...13 breweries in 3 days. Charles Towne Fermentory on the west side of the city was my favorite if you were wondering at all, but that's likely because they're geared toward what I like (New England style unfiltered murky IPA's). Palmetto Brewing was fine, but it didn't make my top 5 and here's why: Weird parking set up with few spaces at their loading dock? Unless I'm missing something, they need to figure out a way better parking situation. Now maybe some people park under the overpass, but those spaces seemed to be all taken by local construction dudes. No prices on their menu board for pints at all, which means you have to ask (which I hate doing). Flights of 4 are available for 10 bucks and that includes tax (and therefore saves you $1.10 over most Chucktown swilleries). Overall, a small tasting room, 12 beers on tap, and 3 tv's at the bar. Dogs are welcome and several were present when we frequented on a recent Tuesday night. They also do trivia on Tuesday nights, though the crowd for that wasn't too large at all. Merchandise wise, they charge $1.50 per sticker and their hats and tees are 25 bucks. They have great air conditioning and also serve 3 different wines for those of you who go to a brewery to drink wine...I'll never get that, but whatever. Beers were fine and I would drink them again, but I doubt I go out of my way to drink a Palmetto Brewing Company beer at a taphouse or local brewpub that offers it. Breweries like Palmetto is what make Charleston such a great microbrew city. I've been a fan of Oyster City Brewing Company in Apalachicola for years. Now that they've joined forces with Palmetto meant that I had to pay them a visit while in town, and I'm glad I did! Great space, awesome service and even better beers, including a couple of my OCBC favorites. I couldn't resist the coffee blonde and the amber. My wife and I took a motorcycle trip to Charleston and decided to stop at Palmetto Brewing, especially after trying their Huger St. IPA from our supermarket. We entered through the brewery area and found our way to the bar/sampling area. The seem to give tours at certain times, but our mission was to check out the beer. My wife and I each took a flight of different beers for $10 each. They also have a limited food menu. I ordered the Bavarian Pretzel with pimento cheese added. I didn't find one beer I didn't like. If it weren't for the fact that we had a motorcycle, I would have taken a case back with me. It wasn't too crowded for a Saturday. The men's room uses old kegs for urinals. I don't believe anyone should use a camera in a rest room, but I had to grab a pic of those. read more

One of my absolute favorite breweries I've ever been to. Love the the environment. Love the beer. The staff has been great. I have no complaints. Our first visit was January 2020. Place had a decent crowd at night and a had a solid band playing on the stage outside. Great setup outside with a ton of tables and a stage at the end of what is basically like an ally. The inside has two main sections: a back area that is accessible from that outdoor section and a large front area that opens up to the outdoors in the front of the building. Our second visit was spent inside right when the place opened on a Sunday in the summer. No real crowd so we got to socialize with the bartender who was formally from another one of my favorites, Swamp Head in Gainesville, Fl. Really cool guy. Had great local recommendations for us too. Did a couple flights. Fell in love with their Idle Speed, which is a salted lime lager. Took a six pack home in our luggage. Also enjoyed the different seltzers they offered but the coolest mix was called garden party. Good stuff. I will return on my next visit to Charleston. read more

This has been one of my favorite brewery on the north side of the peninsula for years. I crave the Espresso Porter, especially during the fall and winter time. The beer uses a blend of coffee that was created and roasted just for them by Charleston Coffee Roasters. There are huge changes happening here. They do a Friday night concert series called the Loading Dock series but the courtyard is under construction right now. The building next to them off Hugers appears to be raized. Maybe they are incorporating that square footage into their location? Time will tell as it continues to be developed. We stopped by on Sunday but looks like the tasting room is closed Sun/Mon...not sure when that change.happened but good to know going forward. We will make sure to get there Friday or Sat during our next time in town. Thankfully, we were able to grab some cans of Espresso Porter on our way back out of town. Your average brewery atmosphere inside, similar feel as the Catawba brewery locations that I've been to. I do wish they distinguished up on the board which was a Palmetto beer and which was a Catawba beer. There's also some confusion on Untappd about whether beers are Catawba or Palmetto so there's some doubles on there (same beer under both breweries). The flights were on the higher end at $12 for 4 pours. Our favorites from the flight were the Hot Chocolate Brown Ale and the Mango Sriracha Gose. We're big fans of the Catawba Evening Joe which they have on tap here so I'd recommend trying that if your a coffee fan! read more

Aw Palmetto of all the years I lived in Charleston and even to today when my family makes trips to the city, you are still one of the stops to make before leaving. The variety of beer is amazing and they all have their own distinct flavor and profile, pretty sure at this point I've tried them all, haha. The food truck options are also great when needing a bite.
