Fatty's is just to the north of town, almost across the street from Munkle and very close to Tradesman, Edmunds Oast, and Lo Fi. Fatty's stands out with it's fantastic selection of IPAs (their speciality) and some others. There is a small indoor seating area and a spread of picnic tables outdoors. Live music and food trucks are often available but neither was there the day we went. We had a sampling of their beers: Fatty's Lazy Hazy IPA: One of my new favorites! I would put this up against Bell's Two Hearted Ale any day of the week. A great hazy IPA with nice hints of citrus both on the front and follow through but not heavy in body. Photon Blonde Ale: nice medium bodied ale. IT was good but the Hazy IPA blew me away It's not a large brewery so not all of their beers are available. The website does list what they are pouring. So we did a mini self-guided Chucktown brewery tour/crawl...13 breweries in 3 days. Charles Towne Fermentory on the west side of the city was my favorite if you were wondering at all, but that's likely because they're geared more toward what I like (New England style unfiltered murky IPA's). Saying this, I did really like the beers here and I'll be looking for them at taprooms and bev centers for sure. I really enjoyed their Collaboration #3, which they have available in cans (see my pic) in house and you can find it at various retailers as well. This place is all about the beer, not the frills. It ain't no yuppie prep hangout. Head over to Edmunds Oast if that's your thing. They don't really do food, but they do have some nice seating at which to lounge. You're basically drinking right there in their brew works, so you know and they don't have a.c. It could get hot as a mofo in here during the day, so be aware of that. They no longer have space for live music as they've added some new brew tankage. Again, they are all about their beer. Their Fatty's head recipe master, Ben, is a really cool dude from Providence originally, but he's been all over, most recently at Sweetwater down in Georgia. We greatly enjoyed talking beer and other things with him when we visited on a Monday night after already visiting like 5 other breweries during that day. Pints will run you 6 per and flights are 10 samoleons for a serving of 4...pretty standard prices really. Unfortunately their parking seems pretty limited out front so be ready for that. Of worth noting, would be that they do 1 dollar 5 oh-zee pours whenever a train blocks traffic nearby...wish I knew the train schedule! read more

Random placement, but good vibe. The brewery was in a little bit or an odd place to get to but once we got there it was very laid back. They have cbd seltzer on tap so perhaps that's why everyone is so chill. The people I was with like the beer, but no show stoppers or anything. Fatty's!!! Brewery stop #3. - How can you not already be having fun knowing you're going to a brewery called Fatty's?!? The vibe here was hip and fun as soon as I walked into the door. We were a few minutes behind the rest of the gang bc we called and no one answered so we didn't think they were open. But they were and I'm glad for that. The bartender/owner treated me like we were long lost BFFs. Everyone asked me after I ordered if I knew him he was that personable and friendly! I finally found a semi sour beer here that was great. The seating area and bar was definitely smaller than the last two stops but that doesn't take away from the great vibe. We sat for a while then spent time out in the sun and the small grass area for group pics. Thanks Fatty for being so cool and adding another great spot to hang in CHS. read more

I've been to Fatty's with several different groups of patrons, and everyone has always had a great experience. The beers are good and Fatty is quite the character. They have live music when they feel so inclined. In fact, you can play or sing while you are there...as long as you don't suck! The instruments and equipment seem to stay set-up for any whimsical performance that might ensue. Fatty is also quite talented. Parking is basically on the street, but this location lends itself to no issues finding a spot. There is a tattoo parlor next door. Jus sayin! There is a nice grassy lawn out front for good weather days/nights, but most of the seating is inside around the bar. They always have snacks and water available, and will let you taste test any beer you might be interested in. Their bathrooms are always clean. Such a weird thing to point out, but also very important. Fattys is open every evening/night so stop by if you're in the area. If not, plan a special outing with friends to check them out. Nice spot right out of downtown with the bar right in the brewery as you'd expect. Friendly bartender and live music in their small outdoor space. I tried the First Shot IPA and the About Time Pale Ale on this visit and enjoyed them both. Snap a pic when you go, tag them on Instagram, and you get $1 off your pint. Not bad for minimal effort on your part. Fatty's is on my way home from work, so I'll probably be back a lot more as I'm interested in trying several more of their offerings. read more

Great beer selection and tastes great but the place is small. Parking is very difficult, if any at all. Biggest issue I had were the mosquitoes here! After being at the bar for 2 hours. I had over 10 mosquito bites. I was killing them as they were on me. I never saw so many in a bar. Their sour Blackberry IPA is a really interesting and excellent beer. Service was fast and helpful- bartender let me taste a few brews before I settled on the sour IPA. They have a cool little outdoor seating area that never seems crowded. There's ample street parking and they generally have a food truck onsite. Our Sunday Funday included a stop at Fatty's Beer Works, and we enjoyed it. A more casual open atmosphere, with roll up garage doors. The bar is a L shaped and seats about 10 total. We were welcomed by Fatty himself, a friendly guy who was warm and chatty. There is a nice area with a sofa and casual seating, then there is a small green space right out front to drink and get some sun. I liked there were some bar snacks available to enjoy with our beer. There are about 10 different beer selections and they also have a limited wine selection. I went with the Musket Mule, a French Saison, which had a smooth polished taste and made me want more. Then my husband had the Lazy Hazy, New England IPA, and it was exactly that..an aggressively hopped brew. I like Fatty's Beer Works, this is the perfect after work place to stop by for a cold one. My friends and I took their Phish bus thinking that it was both ways given that we paid $70 per person. When we got dropped off, we found out that it was only one way. Apparently, there was a "disclaimer" on their post stating that, but we missed it. How about putting it at the top of the page? Who organizes a one-way bus to the venue? Most people would assume it would be two way, especially for $70. All but two of the other people that rode with us on the bus were surprised to discover we had no ride back when we got to the venue. A Lyft ride was $35 each way when I pre-booked the next night. I used to book a bus for 30 friends to AND from Merriweather for $50 per person, so I'm guessing Fatty's was profiting nicely from this arrangement. Unfortunately, we booked Fatty's bus for both nights and the owner would not refund our money for the second night after we complained and canceled. The beer wasn't great and I would not recommend supporting an establishment that can't organize a proper bus ride. read more

We stopped at Fatty's today based on seeing great online reviews as well as a list of nice beers on their website. I guess the beers on their website are things they've brewed in the past, because not a single one of the six beers I had wanted to try were on tap today. Their menu in the taproom had seven beers listed, but they were out of two of those. I settled with the Photon blonde all. It was great, but I was still quite disappointed that the saison, hefeweizen, multiple goses weren't in the taproom but were on their site, as these beers were the primary reason for visiting Fatty's. There is plenty of street parking nearby, and the taproom is dog-friendly. It's a smaller taproom with limited seating, but this wasn't an issue on a Sunday afternoon. Another cute newer brewery in Charleston. We stopped by for a flight on our way to tour the old headstones at the Magnolia Cemetery located right behind it. It was very slow and only one other patron was there with us and the bartender. She was very casual, stepping outside a few times but always making sure we were set before checking on the beer or anything else. We both got a flight of the Fatty's beer: Goslar Gose (yum), Elrod's Special (also yum), About Time (decent) and Photon (also decent). I liked that they had things other than IPAs on draft and especially happy that they had a gose! I wish I had been able to grab a sticker to bring back to CT with me as I love their mascot! read more

A fun spot that was pretty hopping when we were there, with a live band playing and a pretty packed house. We still managed to get a seat at the bar and the bartender was helpful in explaining the different beers. The Arnold 33 was a pretty decent take on a New England IPA and I also liked the ESB. read more

Ok I have to say this is the absolute best brewery/beerworks I have ever had the privilege of "testing". I'm not a beer drinker, but thanks to Fatty, I've discovered I like sours and am now going to go to a tasting. So this is very nice quiet place and when we walked in we were one of the first ones send this is something I would recommend for people without any kids because it's really private. What I like the lot is that there is a life size Jenga that we almost bit the record!!!!! And beers were great I really like the atmosphere! A little bit drunk now but t hey you only live once right? Alex is very friendly and informative. We also had a chance to meet me FAtty :-) he was a lot of fun I wish he would stick around for a little bit longer:-) he even wear a darth Vader mask that talks! Fatty's was the last stop on our little brewery hop, and it was a cool spot! I don't remember the beer list being super long, but we found ones we wanted to try. There was a little lawn area out front, and then the brewery and bar area inside. Being a Sunday evening, it was pretty chill. My friend and I were the only ones in there at one point, with a few others coming through. We found a seat on the comfy leather couch, which was nice to sit and relax on. I think we were there for an hour looking through the big Salvador Dali book that was on the coffee table in front of us, and the inside area felt like a place you could just sit and hangout for a few hours without feeling too crowded or rushed. It wasn't my favorite brewery of the bunch, but definitely a cool place to go and hangout! read more
