They had the chairs taped off for 6 feet distancing and Mike was wearing a face mask during the cut. Called ahead to schedule an appointment. Said I could be there in 15 mins, was told it wouldn't be an issue. I get there, three employees are busy, they told me to wait outside till someone was ready. I waited 40 minutes to see 2/3 of the barbers finish their cuts then take a brake. Came back in to ask what was going on and they told me, they had to take a break and should be "another 10-15mins". 100% would not recommend coming here, unless you're looking to waste a good hour out of your day, just to leave. read more

After having gone to the other 2 barbershops in the area I seem to have found the one I like (so far so good). I used to goto Davids down the street but after way too many instances of the barbers not understanding what I wanted I had to stop going. Then I tried Danny's and they were a bit pricy for what you got, and all but one time I had to fix my hair when I got home because they were sloppy and that one time it was great It was because I had the barber fix it because I caught it. It took me so long to try Rios because it always seemed busy... and now I know why. It may seem busy but there are enough barbers you don't wait too long. The price is a little much (I got used to military barbers making it quick and cheap so take my comment here with a grain of salt) but $18 but that's about the going rate in the neighborhood. Found this place via Yelp about 5 years ago and have been coming here at least 2 - 3 times a month ever since. Excellent barbers here!! Professional high-quality cuts each and every time. Customers know it too because even though the price of a regular haircut is $14 (recently upped to $15), you'll always see customers shelling out a full $20 to show their appreciation. Rey has always been my go-to. It's great when I can just sit in the chair and he already knows what I need. I remember telling Rey one Friday that I was getting married the next day and he gave me the best haircut I ever had in my life. I came back and gave him a bottle of wine (wedding giveaway) as a thank you. Now he's always asking if my wife and I have popped any kids out yet. HAHAHA....not yet, but I'll probably be bringing my son here one day! Tips: 1) If you're looking for that perfect cut, pick Rios, Rey or Mike and you won't be disappointed. A good haircut can make you feel like a million bucks, and a bad haircut can make you feel like you wanna stick your head into the ground like an ostrich. Rios is without a doubt the best barber shop I have ever come across--and I've tried a bunch. When I went to school at UCLA, I would somehow get to Rios in Palms even though it was about a fifteen minute drive away. I've driven here, got tons of rides from my roommate here, and even bussed here. It didn't matter if it was for the first day of school, for feeling good before finals week, for an important presentation at my internships, or for impressing someone (lol). It's just that good! I've sat at every single chair in this barber shop, whether it's for Mike (always the longest line for him) or Rio or whoever else. Every one of them can do a great fade and taper, which I historically have gotten here. The style here is simple: sit down at one of the many chairs facing the barbers. They will make a mental note of the order you came in relative to everyone else; it's pretty impressive, because I have never seen them mess up the order. When a chair opens, the barber will ask you if you want to get your hair cut by them. You can accept the offer or say you're waiting for someone specific. Very easy and not awkward at all. Awkward, now there's a word I need to focus on. Barber shops can occasionally be awkward because you just don't know the protocol at that place. Rios makes it so easy and they truly have seen it all, so nothing really phases them or makes you stand out. Plus, they really don't talk to you if you don't want to be talked to, but they're friendly when you do wanna just have a friend...Even...For...A moment. OK that was weird. A haircut here is $15 and any sort of 0 cut will be $16. You also get a sweet straightedge shave for the back of your neck which feels oh-so-satisfying. Lastly, tip your barber! I've basically been going to this spot since I moved to LA in 2005. Haircuts are 16 bucks, you get the old school straight razor on the back of the neck and behind the ears after, and it's no nonsense. All of the barbers are legit but everyone has their prefereces. I typically go with "Mike" who can be described as the Armenian George Clooney. He's a bad ass and always hooks it up and takes his time. Downside, everyone gets in line for this dude! Parking can be tricky (street parking) but if you drive around there's parking in one block away usually. Usually a wait no matter the time of day. Highly recommend this place. It can be found on a small street with an iconic barbershop feel. There are "some" talented folks here, I routinely see Mike who as you've read in most other reviews is the star around here. You can find mike as early as 530 am on most mornings or any other busy day he's working. A quiet man who will with precision get you what you want. Very courteous and good to his customers, he'll often remind folks to check the parking meter and on occasion I've seen him feed the meter for someone in the chair. If you're waiting for a particular barber because you heard about them on yelp, then just politely pass and point to who you are waiting for. There's metered parking on the street and they'll give you change for the parking meters for FREE if you need it. I've loved this place since I discovered it. Haircut for only $14 is about as cheap as you're going to get. There's one guy that's the best. He's kind of a bigger guy with a full head of hair. When he finishes your haircut he gives you a little shoulder massage with some big metal vibrator on his hand. I can say with certainty that last week at Rio's I received the worst haircut I've ever had in my entire life. My barber was an older female, and the resultant haircut is ridiculous.
