First time visit and was so impressed of how they move the line so efficiently. Their customer service is so pleasant, friendly and patient. The store is busy so beware that you will stand in line but they move quick. Food - we ordered a variety of their pan dulce and it's fresh and good. Love their fresh tortillas. Can't wait to visit again

Picked up some green chili chicken tamales and they are soo yummy!! Definitely my go to place when I'm craving tamales. They have other tamales (beef, pork, chicken, red/green and sweet), bread and also sell masa.

So happy I found this little hidden gem. The tamales are delicious and made fresh. I ordered beef(red)and pork(green and red). The variety of pastries is unmatched. I was in concha heaven. You can also buy masa for the diy crowd. Everyone was very helpful and by the line of people ordering and smiling while waiting you know it's the kind of place that keeps you coming back again and again. Spanish is the primary language but don't worry there are plenty of workers that also speak English.

I been visiting this bakery since I moved to El Mirage and always had a great experience. The owner is Maria and I love the fact that she's always at the business; working, attending the register and supervising the products. You instantly get the feeling that "Great customer service is her main goal". She loves our city! :) The store is conveniently located near the US-60 to purchase bread in the way home from work. They open at 6:00 am which allows us to buy bread before our working journeys. The store is always clean with a very wide variety of bread, that's constantly coming fresh and warm (Churros are AMAZINGLY GOOD! :) They also have fresh homemade tamales and prepared masa if you decide to make your own own tamales. (We love buying pineapple and strawberry masa). In addition, they have cakes, desserts, and much more; you'll be surprised of the long list of delights available! :)

A very sad establishment. No one and I promise you, no one, deserve to be ripped off by this dump. The pastry with literally dairy inside is at room temperature plus who knows what else isn't kept to temp. Big issue is the owner. The reviews are fake and by family or friends that work there, and the food is not good. $61 for 2 dozen tamales and they acted like they didn't have enough for my order and then coming from the back with a mean face is, I assume the owner, bringing my actual order. I left 1 review about this bad experience and they've just kept replying to anything I'll say. It's literally, I hate to call a small business this but it is TRASH. PLEASE save your money, time, and health from this dumpster fire wannabe Mexican food? If that's really food...I'm starting to find my tamales are dirty...I'm just gonna keep them and see what the health department can do. I don't feel safe now after eating from here and it's sad, I even tried saying thank you multiple times before leaving and you acted smug and stuck up because I didn't want pork? Or something gross wannabe tamales that's not my order. You will close with these behaviors, fake reviews mean nothing when you have no paying customers.

A West Valley Gem Packed with Flavor, Charm, and Plenty to Discover…read more If you've ever driven past that bright pink building on the corner of 101st and Grand Avenue in Sun City and wondered, "What's in there?" let me save you the suspense: it's the New York West Bakery, and it's absolutely worth pulling over for. In fact, I've made the hour-plus drive each way more than a dozen times just to visit. Whenever I find myself anywhere in the West Valley, this place is a mandatory stop. I've taken countless photos of my visits because there is always something new to see, taste, or admire. Under its new ownership, New York West Bakery has evolved into a wonderfully unique fusion-style café. The menu is delightfully unexpected, featuring everything from traditional breakfast favorites and homemade tamales to incredible Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches. If I can dig up some of my photos, I'll add them because these sandwiches deserve their own spotlight. The transformation isn't limited to the menu. The Interior: Spotlessly clean. During one recent visit, I watched an energetic staff member carefully mopping the floors and making sure everything looked perfect. It's obvious they take pride in the place. The Exterior: They've added a charming outdoor patio complete with colorful umbrellas, comfortable seating, and newly planted trees that will provide even more shade as they grow. It's a fantastic addition and makes for a relaxing place to enjoy a pastry and coffee. The Food: Where This Place Really Shines When New York West Bakery gets it right, they absolutely knock it out of the park. Their fruit tarts are hands-down some of the best I've had in years. They're fresh, beautiful, bursting with flavor, and surprisingly affordable for the quality you're getting. Best of all, everything is made from scratch, which shows in every bite. The newer savory menu items are also a huge win. Their Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches deliver serious value. They're enormous. Honestly, one sandwich is big enough to share and still leave you feeling satisfied... or at least leave just enough room for dessert. And speaking of dessert, I have to mention those fruit tarts one more time. They're that good. My wife Lucy absolutely loves them. In fact, "love" might be an understatement. If fruit tarts had a fan club, she'd probably be the president. New York West Bakery continues to grow and evolve, and it's exciting to watch. Between the friendly atmosphere, expanding menu, beautiful patio, and from scratch-made baked goods, it's become one of my favorite hidden gems in the Valley.

Update: June 2026 The new owners have expanded into more of…read morea café than a bakery, and a fusion one at that since you can get Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches, tamales, and traditional breakfasts. I love that they added outdoor seating with cheery umbrellas and have planted trees to provide additional ambiance and shade, although the highway noise will always be problematic. The inside is spotless and while I was there a friendly staffer was keeping it that way by energetically mopping. Sadly, the St. Joseph's pastry I had had a tough not flaky or crisp shell, but the ricotta filling was light and good. I was so looking forward to the poppy seed bread but when I got it home and cut into it, the filling was not spread out throughout the bread and there wasn't much of it. The bread itself was not tear apart tender, but dry. I saved it by slathering butter on it and lightly toasting it, but that shouldn't have been necessary. For the prices, everything should have been top notch or marked down and labeled as day-olds. I'm curious about the breakfast and lunch café options, so I'll probably go back to give them a try, but note that the prices have increased by more than a few cents per item since the 2025 someone else posted, so check for the latest. Maybe they are trying to do too much and should limit the variety and be known for a few super delicious items that are always fresh and superior to what you could get in a supermarket. Having a few signature items and being the go-to place during special holidays would help define them, and please, please FRESHNESS is crucial--maybe the products are just drying out more because we're in AZ, but I'm not the only one mentioning dried out items.

It happened to be a little under twenty minutes away from us so we decided let's do it & they were open late. Hell yeah. There's not a crazy amount of pastries but the selection was great. We got two tiramisus, one vanilla custard lobster tail, some mini cannolis, & the wedding cookies. Everything came out to about $50 so beware, prices aren't exactly cheap. But for one, if you're going to do "bad" then do it right & we also shared with our family of 5 so plenty to go around. & Holy cow, everything was incredible. So indulgent, decadent & rich in flavor. My nephews liked the cannolis, personally they're not my favorite, but if you're into it the mini's are a great option to quench the craving. The lobster tail with the vanilla custard took me by surprise. I didn't think I was going to care for it, but the cold custard was refreshing & the flakiness of the bread was crazy, my taster buds were confused by the textures, but in the best way. They complemented each other well. My ultimate favorite was the tiramisu & the wedding cookies. I honestly wish I had gotten more of the wedding cookies, those things took me back. I grew up eating the Mexican ones & the Italians did it right *applause* But damn, the tiramisu was to die for. I would order that again & again. Perfectly chilled, the dusting of the cocoa powder didn't taste like nesquik--incredible. At first the price had me thinking if we were doing too much, like damn, should we have just gone to Sprouts bakery? But after being able to indulge in a great quality dessert, it was worth every dollar. My only feedback, careful when you're paying at the register. If you're not paying attention, the tip automatically defaults to 18% on the tablet. Only thing I didn't care for. I could see if I was eating at the restaurant, but I just popped in to take pastries to go. So, that was kind of annoying. The service was fine, the girl that helped me was nice, but again I just pointed at desserts I wanted & went home. The location is part of the main restaurant, but it has its own entrance & little room making it feel separate to the Sicilian Butcher. They also carry gelato which I haven't tried yet. I believe they have little tables to sit at also. Highly recommend checking this out so save room for dessert!

They had already put away half of their gelato and baked goods in the cabinet. I understand closing time is at 10:30, but if you still have almost half an hour left, I'm sure there are customers that are gonna come in and buy things. There were three parties of people that walked in while we were in there and then sitting out on the really nice patio. There is a little bit of seating inside, but the patio was very nice and there was plenty of seating out there too. The vibe is super cute, and I love the decor. Hopefully next time we go back, we can actually try things because they won't be put away!

But what really makes this place special is their mission. They hire individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively invest in the community -- from vendor markets to hosting events like their upcoming 5K. You can feel that purpose woven into everything they do. We tried one of their themed drink flights (the Sweet Heart menu was adorable -- Love Potion, Love Struck, To The Moon & Back... so cute). The presentation in the little mason jars was fun and picture-worthy. Flavor-wise, they leaned sweeter than my personal preference, but still enjoyable and perfect if you love flavored lattes. They offer plenty of milk options, including non-dairy, which I appreciate. Bakery - vegan and gluten-free options clearly labeled. I grabbed the lemon scone (vegan + GF). It was good! I'm personally more of a vegan-but-not-gluten-free girl, so texture-wise it's not something I'd specifically crave again -- but I absolutely appreciate that they create inclusive options. My friend had the cinnamon roll and was happy. They also have a small retail section with mugs, shirts, local honey, and little gift items, which adds to the community feel. Overall, this isn't a hyper-trendy, third-wave coffee aesthetic spot -- it's something better. It's purpose-driven, inclusive, and clearly loved by the neighborhood. Not a five-star flavor experience for me personally, but an easy four stars for what they stand for and the impact they're making.
