I write yes on recommending because of past great experiences. Tonight everything fell short. We had to send one dish back. Our server never checked on us we had to find another server to let them know. She also never returned so we could not get refills on our drinks. She returned to offer us cheese but after 3 of the 4 of us had finished our meals. However, we had reservations and arrived early and they were able to seat us in a comfortable corner where we got to enjoy our conversation. My order was completely wrong. I ordered a 1/2 sandwich and was charged for a whole. I asked for no cheese (white creamy sauce) got cheese. I also got an olive pit the size of a tooth/small rock in the sandwich. Thank goodness that I did not bite on it or it would have fractured my teeth then I'd have to sue the business. I let the server (white young girl) know and she could care less said nothing did not apologize and took the pit to show the cook in the kitchen. What a bunch of insensitive cold unapologetic people. This is a tiny lunch counter style restaurant with only a handful of tables but they make up for it with their amazing panini, pizza, and gellato menu. You order your food choice, receive a number, and wait at one of the tables if they're not all occupied. We were lucky, a table was empty. I was feeling a bit irked at the lack of personal attention, but then I sank my teeth into a delicious Toscana panini. (See more choices on the big menu board, or the laminated menus at the cashier counter.) Transport to Heaven!! It's HUGE. Then the gellato... so many flavors, each more delicious than the last. Cutest shop in the neighborhood. When the crew is speaking Italian and cheek kissing the shift change workers, you know it's going to be a lovely experience. Incredibly delicious and authentic paninis. The giardino panini is entirely vegan, and is filled with roasted vegetables, vegan mayo, olive pate, and arugula. It was extremely good, and this place is definitely a new favorite for me in AZ. The bread itself is also amazing, apparently the yeast they use is over 110 years old now. The interior is very welcoming, and you can see them preparing your sandwiches through the glass. They also have desserts and other deli items on display for purchase. I liked the tiramisu and the panini I had. I love pizza, and even enjoy brick oven pizza, but I did not like the burnt taste of this pizza. Such a cute place! I recently was in Italy and this place definitely has very similar food (pizzas, gelato). I love that they have some authentic Italian items to purchase and bring home, such as authentic pasta, olive oil, etc. We tried 4 different sandwiches and they were large and well worth the price. 3 of the 4 of us saved the other half of the sandwich to eat later. My picky teenage son loved the Puglia panini and ate the whole thing in one sitting minus my small bite so I could give it a try. It was my favorite of the 4 we ordered (eggplant parm, Puglia, Capri, and Luciano). The eggplant part was my least favorite because it made the bread mushy. Definitely going back to try the pizza and pasta and more of the cold sandwiches. Probably will bring home some goodies from the shop/market items, as well. Pros 1. Food is just like it is in Italy 2. Simple and fresh ingredients makes for very tasty and clean food 3. The items you can purchase to take home such as pasta, olive oil, fresh whole stems/leaves of dried oregano, etc. 4. The gelato looked legit. I learned in Italy how to tell real gelato from the kind that is made to sell more and sacrifices taste and texture. The gelato at Fabio is the real deal. Cons 1. No way would I recommend this place. Our experience could be an episode on Gordon Ramsay's kitchen nightmares. The announced that he would be our server. What a mistake that was. Service was absolutely terrible. We complained that our pizza was water logged, the veal picatta consisted of two very small pieces of veal at a cost of $45. The veal portion size wasn't more than 3oz. I asked if I was short on the size of the portion. The owners response was if you don't like you don't have to eat here. When I told him I won't he started swearing in Italian, I guess he didn't think I knew Italian. They don't skimp on the salami either. I had to take some out because it was bit too salty. I think their spread on it was also salty. Other than the saltiness, it was really yummy. My friend tried their ham one and she enjoyed it too. Don't forget to get some gelato too. We had their hazelnut one and it was so delicious. The deli meat and produce they use is quality and you can taste it. The bread is slightly crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy the inside. I had the Piccante and it was so good. The parmesan spread was amazing, i'd put it on everything. The caramelized onions were sweet and still earthy with a bite. Compared to other views my sandwich had plenty of Sopressata calabrese on it. I'm 5'8 - 200lbs slightly pudgy but with rugged good looks and half of the sandwich filled me up. Met up with my better half after I got off work for dinner here a few nights ago. My boss recommended this stop as I'm new to AZ, and it did not disappoint! When we arrived the staff of what I believe was two people were both very welcoming and kind from the jump, and the mood of the place was cozy and homey. We got two pizzas (Tarantina and Bianca Parma) drinks, and little did we know they had a special where if you buy two pizzas you get two small gelatos included! I'm not much of an Arugula Or prosciutto guy, but the Bianca Parma was delightful! All of the ingredients seemed to be high quality, the crust was light and pillowy, but crispy. The Tarantina was cheesy with just the right amount of flavor from the pepperoni and sausage, and the sauce itself was very nice! The char on the crust was unbeatable. All in all it was really good pizza. With the gelato she got ferrero rocher and Oreo whereas I got strawberry and ferrero rocher. The ferrero tasted EXACTLY like the candy, and the strawberry tasted like fresh fruit. They even let us upgrade to a medium and didn't even charge us! Great place, great service, great food. Fabio has created an amazing concept being able to get a panini on his tasty bread! We absolutely love coming here and getting a sammie and gelato.
