She said she would contact her bank and still confirmed my order. Just two days before my daughter's birthday party, the owner told me her family had norovirus and offered to either make the cake or cancel with a full refund. I appreciated her honesty and chose to cancel since the cake would be served to many children. Having to find a replacement cake only two days before the party caused me a great deal of stress, a parent planning a large birthday celebration, this added unnecessary pressure during an already busy time. Despite that, I remained understanding because I knew her family's illness was beyond her control. The owner asked for other ways to refund me, I sent her my Venmo information and she promised my refund would be sent "in the next couple of days." More than a week later, I still have not received my $117 refund despite multiple polite follow-up messages. I also contacted my bank, but they explained they couldn't dispute the payment because it was successfully sent to her Zelle account. Since the recipient banks with a different financial institution, they couldn't investigate what happened after the funds were received. What frustrated me the most throughout this experience was the lack of communication. I never knew if or when I would receive a response. Sometimes I had to follow up just to get an update, and now my messages have gone unanswered altogether. A simple update would have gone a long way. I understand emergencies happen, and I genuinely appreciated the owner's honesty about her family's illness. However, promising a refund, acknowledging the payment issue was their responsibility and then failing to communicate or issue the refund has been very disappointing. As of today, more than a week after she promised to send my refund, I am still waiting to receive it and have not received any communication from her. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this bakery at all.

The theme of the party was a tropical rainforest with a waterfall, and somehow she managed to capture the entire theme in a cake. The attention to detail was incredible. From the cascading waterfall and rocks to the greenery, vines, flowers, birds, snakes, chameleon, and all the tiny jungle details, every part of the cake was thoughtfully designed and beautifully handmade. The cake matched our backdrop and decorations so perfectly that it genuinely looked like it had been created as part of the entire party setup. What impressed us most was the amount of creativity, time, and effort that clearly went into making it. This wasn't just a birthday cake! It was a centerpiece and a work of art. Our guests kept stopping to look at all the details and asking who made it! And most importantly, Aditi absolutely loved seeing her name incorporated into her own little rainforest waterfall. Looked on Yelp and saw Northstar's 5 star reviews and figured this would be a good opportunity to check it out. Great communication--Chef is fast at replying and he's super friendly in his emails. You can tell he is a happy and caring guy just based on his written responses. He also offers delivery for a small charge. I think we paid $20 which was worth it so I didn't have to worry about picking up a cake amidst a very busy schedule. Our cake was priced at $4-5/slice. Not cheap but it was reasonable. We got one mango and one strawberry. I sent photos of the theme we were going for, which was a Hawaiian theme. I wanted the cakes to look like a Hawaiian shirt. On the day of the event, Chef Metin delivered the cakes with a smile. I learned he used to be in the tech industry (I think he was a software engineer?) but now he does baking full time, which started out as a hobby. How fun! The cakes tasted great. We even had a few guests asking where we got them, to which we told them about Northstar Baking. My only area of improvement would be the look of the cakes. They didn't look like Hawaiian shirts and the color was a strange purplish-gray, which looked a little odd (though it doesn't look too bad in my photo). But I probably should have communicated a theme color or discussed the look better. But other than that, it was a unique cake and the guests were happy.
