Delicious. Best quesitos we had on the island. The staff is friendly and everything runs smoothly.

This was a must-visit for my friend who used to live nearby (years ago). So we popped in on our way to the airport for some breakfast & last minute pastries to take home. The line was quite long but they moved through it fairly quickly (but not fast). We ordered and had our items packaged separately to go- and breakfast was plated so we could eat inside, at one of the many tables. My friend claims it's the best toast on the island - and I agree, it's pretty good! Coffees were good, pastries were delicious. I brought some marzipan home, also great. Overall it was a really nice place- and you can tell by the number of regulars that they are good at what they do! Sad I didn't get to have a bigger meal, or tapas, here because the whole menu looked amazing.

    Loooong waits.....!!!

The coffee and pastries are good, but the attitude is "I don't care" and the wait is unjustifiable looooong. Not worth the wait and the rap. Sad.

Even the regulars are not coming anymore !! this place needs friendly people !!! Don't come here ! don't waste your precious time and money on this place!

Pictures of Old San Juan in the early 1900s line the walls to show how little the town has changed in the past century, and Mallorca Cafetería is a gem that has withstood the test of time. Definitely an affordable breakfast as the most expensive mallorca is still under $10. Cafe con leche in styrofoam cups is a staple that is great even in the heat. Definitely worth getting a cup of orange juice as it is freshly squeezed to order. During my stay in Puerto Rico I had several mallorcas around the island but none come close to what I consider the original. Pressed and doused in powdered sugar it's surprisingly both light and filling. We had tried coming at around 9a the previous day and there was already a long line outside so we chose go to somewhere else but made sure we were out the door by 6:30a the next day to get to Mallorca before it opened and there was still a bit of a line. We were able to get in and situate ourselves once they opened at 7a; there are lots of small tables with chairs which we chose because we had a larger group but if dining solo or with one person it's definitely a great experience to sit at the bar for a more traditional feel. Again, this is a must for me every time I am in San Juan and I'm happy to carve out some time for one of the greatest breakfasts you can have. Would rate ten stars if it were possible.

We just couldn't pass it up. So, let's talk about the history. It all started out as "Anita La Mamma del Gelato" in Tel Aviv back in 2002. "La Mamma del Gelato" that you see on the walls inside this shop represent the mother (Anita Avital) & son (Nir) duo who started it all. It's grown to many more locations to include NYC and Miami. There's even a sub-brand of Anita Gelato called "Golda Gilda" that is very popular in Israel. I have to be honest when stating that I've never heard of either gelato brands until seeing this shop near our hotel. We each decided to get the smallest cup size that includes 2 flavors. I selected Pavlova Mixed Berries and Chocolate Pistachio & Kadayif. There was a white chocolate version of it as well, but I decided to stick with the traditional milk chocolate. I don't remember what flavors my husband picked out. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed mine. I especially loved the chocolate pistachio one. That layer of pistachio cream & crispy kadayif was delightful. I didn't taste any pavlova in the mixed berry gelato, but it was still wonderful. They're very good about giving out samples for those who are unsure and want to get the perfect flavor. I wish we had returned to try more. It was a delicious & relaxing experience. The service was great. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. We fortunately arrived in the late afternoon when it wasn't too busy. Definitely do not pass this one up when in Condado.

In addition to being absolutely beautiful, they are also delicious. I ordered the rum, pina colada, cookie dough, and raspberry flavors. All of them were absolutely amazing. They were almost too pretty to eat... almost. The young man behind the counter was very nice and very helpful. The bonbons were about $3 and some change a piece... Absolutely worth it. My only complaint is that such gorgeous chocolates were denied a proper aesthetic presentation. Instead they were served in a 2 oz plastic sample cup. In addition to delectable bonbons, the shop has so many chocolate things. Chocolate bars, chocolate bon bons, chocolate chili rub, chocolate sea salt, chocolate sauce...even chocolate coffee. They also sell spirits that are infused with different flavors such as pineapple, passion fruit, ginger, and coconut. I've bought them at the grocery store for my mother over the years when I couldn't find Menier. I was hoping to see some unique desserts at Chocobar Cortés. Let's just say that the chocobar at this location was not what I was expecting. It's like an express version of their original one in Old San Juan. This is located in the lobby of the Condado Palm Hotel. There are 2 entrances. Don't make the same mistake we did by trying to access at street level. That door is locked. You'll need to enter through the hotel lobby. The service is very slow here. There was only one other person there. We ordered a box of 6 chocolates and payed for it. I'm guessing he was making a drink for the other guest because he asked us to wait a few minutes. It ended up being longer so he told his colleague (who just came back from a break) to make up the chocolate box for us. Unfortunately, it took even longer as this other guy was more interested in the 2 young girls who just walked in. The chocolate bonbons were good, but nothing unique. It's the same artisan chocolates that you see everywhere for the same high price. Perhaps this location is better for their specialty cocktails in the evening time. I was looking forward to trying the choco-latte at some point. I doubt there will be a next time.

Walk, run, drive, float, fly, cancel that trip to Hawaii; do what you need to do; Eat dinner here immediately! I mean like, right now. It's 4am and you're in Wisconsin? Don't care. You should be here. I went out looking for a healthy salad after days of eating very rich foods. Planned to go to Opa! Opa was packed, but the doors were locked and the sign was off, despite not closing for another hour according to maps. Oh well. What's this up here? Paulina's. Ok let me check Yelp. Great ratings let's see if they have salads. Right on Ashford, indoor and outdoor seating. It was packed and there was 45 minutes til close. So I went straight to the bar. The server/bartender gave me the best service on this trip. She was prompt, checked in me at the right time, spoke to me in Spanish when I tried but English when I needed to. She was warm and smiled to everyone. While she made drinks i asked random things about the island, the language, and she seemed happy to tell me about it. Vibe was elegant, slightly high scale. I didn't know until I saw the menu... oh this is a Mexican restaurant! I drank an old fashion. It was delicious but tasted a little weak. Not sure how that can be when it's all liquor basically. Maybe I was just in a mode. But it was good. In retrospect, wtf am I drinking an old fashion for? Should have had something more Caribbean! They had a great looking salad called El Orgánico iirc. But then I saw this interesting dish that came with a side salad. It is called "Torta elote de escanes" I think. Something like that. In Arizona a torta is a sandwich on a bun de Frances or Bolio. So I was struck when I read the description. Something about a corn soufflé, with green chiles. Sounded good but not crazy good. But then it went on "this is the one thing you should order at Paulina." Ok, who am I to argue? I ordered the torta elote; and two taquitos de pollo al pastor. (Chicken pastor tacos). She explained that the torts also had mushrooms and sour cream and is that ok. Yes, sounds great! Tacos came out first. Fantastic! I live in Arizona and am no stranger to pastor. This was top tier; probably the best I've had. Insanely tender chicken on a pan-toasted tortilla with pineapple and some sauce. Out of this world. But honestly, compared to what's coming next, I almost forgot all about those perfect tacos. Out comes the "torta". It looks like a rectangle piece of cornbread with crème and tomatoes on top. Served simply on a white flat plate, soufflé (torta) on the left, and the salad on the right. Ate the salad first. It was the low light. Fresh and tasty, but the dressing needs a bit more pop imo: maybe vinegar. I cut off a piece of the corn bread thing, being sure to include a bit of every ingredient. I'm lost for words. I don't know what to say. This is the perfect creation. This is a godly creation. I will never forget this. Now, as I mentioned, I'm from Arizona. So I love corn. I live green chiles. These are southwest flavors so maybe I'm biased. But this thing was perfect in every way as far as I'm concerned. What she said was sour cream I think was actually crème fraiche. But I don't care what you call it. Torta, sour cream, whatever! One of the best dishes I've eaten in my life. 6 stars.
