Located in the neighborhood of Puerto Nuevo, this panadería is one with actual Spanish roots. Here you can find imported Spanish products, as well as order wine and tapas. You can also catch La Liga games. They have limited private parking with a friendly attendant. I believe the lot is shared with the neighboring El Corcho restaurant. I find La Ceiba to be one of the better panaderías, but also one of the pricier ones. The quesitos are very good, as is the freshly squeezed OJ. The caldo gallego is also good. This was a must-visit for my friend who used to live nearby (years ago). So we popped in on our way to the airport for some breakfast & last minute pastries to take home. The line was quite long but they moved through it fairly quickly (but not fast). We ordered and had our items packaged separately to go- and breakfast was plated so we could eat inside, at one of the many tables. My friend claims it's the best toast on the island - and I agree, it's pretty good! Coffees were good, pastries were delicious. I brought some marzipan home, also great. Overall it was a really nice place- and you can tell by the number of regulars that they are good at what they do! This place was recommended to us. So we took the drive all the way there. They brag being the creator of a pastry called "quesito". This was our last meal on the island and a colleague of ours took us here for lunch. La Ceiba appears to be a favorite among the locals. Although a "panaderia" they are much more than that. Their tagline is that they are the home of the jamon and naturally, you should get something with jamon in it! They have quite the list of sandwiches and you'll probably have a tough time making a decision of which one you will eat today. I went with the tripleta which had 3 different types of meats including jamon and pastrami with melted cheese in the middle. The bread was just thick enough to add some crunch but otherwise does not distract you from the main attraction: the meats! They pack the meat on here making their sandwiches very thick. Even if you came in here at your hungriest, a single sandwich is enough to sustain you for a while. Don't forget they have a lot of other things as well here for you to try including sweet and savory pastries. We also ordered croquetas which are these tiny finger like pastries stuffed with meat. They have empanadas, churros and many other things. The churros were a little old and were too hard for my taste. All in all a great place for lunch. There is parking on the street and in the back. You can use cash or credit card. No minimum purchase necessary. Plenty of places to sit inside but of course you can order "para llevar" (to go). read more

This is my favorite place ever to go for some special snacks and food when we visit Puerto Rico. Since my early childhood, my Dad used to stop by La Ceiba on his way home from the airport when he traveled. He would always get home with boxes of amazing goodies. The best croquetas EVER (sorry La Carreta) the most amazing "quesitos", OMG to die for, the greatest doughnuts with their fluffy texture and perfect sugar. I only recently discovered this gem of a place after almost a year of living in San Juan. There are three main elements to this place, a deli on the left, a pastry portion in he middle and Iberian-style tapas on the right. The tapas are my favorite. For those who consider this place expensive, it is worth it. Where else can I get mackerel marinated in garlic oil and vinegar? Where else can I get fresh octopus salad? Where else can I get other delights straight from Spain? The only two gripes I have is the system of paying, and the clientele. The lines are disorganized and inefficient, but eventually you do get to pay your bill. Also, the people who patronize La Ceiba are some of the most snobby you will find in Puerto Rico. Came here for signature sandwiches... had the tripleta which was huuuuge and delicious. Hubby had the media noche which he said was delicious as well. One star only because i can't give 0 stars. We count not even order because no one would take our order. We didn't have a reservation but decided to eat there instead of take out after asking the employee at the door. The place was not full. Every patron there before us was already eating yet the three staff behind the counter would not come to our table. We kept being told someone would be right over, after 20 minutes they started taking orders from guests that came after us that sat on reserved tables.
