Service is always top notch and the food is no less. Always fast service whether you're dining in or taking out. Today's meal was a GrubHub special since I'm in the office and didn't want to get out of my flow state to pick up food. The order arrived hot and fresh. Food is incredible. I have the Garlic Shrimp and Shimp Spring Roolls and their fried Dumplings. I've eaten in many Asain Restaurants locally and all over the country. However, PANANG Thai Restaurant is absolutely hands down in several locations around OKC, Norman. The restaurant on South PenSylvania is y favorite. The atmosphere is nice. The food is playful and incredible. I love their garlic shrimp bowl and shrimp spring rolls. Dumplings are excellent to. I can't say enough good about this place. Great food, great service in a nice place. We were greeted as we walked in and seated right away. Our server did a great job suggesting appetizers and one of the people in our party had not eaten Thai food before and the server helped them make a good choice. The pot stickers were really good. I had Shrimp Pad Thai and it was probably the best Pad Thai I have ever had. Great flavor, loaded with shrimp and a good size portion. Everyone commented on how good their dishes were. Our server checked in on us regularly during our meal to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were happy with our meals. I typically go for a 3, which I don't think is that spicy. Tender fried fish soaked in a curry sauce with mixed vegetables. so yummy! Shrimp Fried Rice: A classic! I always have to order this. Pour some of the curry from the catfish onto the rice, and it's the most perfect bite. Crab Rangoon: Crispy & filled to the brim with filling. 10 pieces was extremely generous! I can't complain. Seafood Tom-Yum: Soup that has nice sour accents. It comes in two sizes: a personal, singular serving or a hotpot, larger serving for 2-4 people. My only complaint is that they only give one bowl of rice for the larger serving. Larb Salad: We don't eat this often, but when we do, it's pretty good! Really wanted to try Thai food since I was in town. Wasn't busy at all. Lots of seating, ac was on thank goodness because after walking in the sun all day I wanted to relax and enjoy lunch. Was seated pretty quickly but felt like we were almost forgotten because it took a while for someone to come take our order. Ordered a few different dishes. Food came out quick afterwards. My sister, husband and I had lunch here on Tuesday. We all had some version of the Tuesday special. The daily specials are interesting because you pick one thing from groups 1-4. I selected Spring Roll Pork, Green Curry Chicken, House Chili Chicken Stir-Fried and then i noticed they gave the option of Pad Thai Noodles instead of rice, which is so bland and ubiquitous, so I chose Pad Thai Noodles! Everything was delightful except the green beans in the House Chili Chicken Stir-Fried. They were TOUGH. I don't mean lightly sautéed and crunchy, I mean old and tough. Anyway I had to pick them out and I'm not picky. I only report these so the cooks will be more careful and not use them if they are tough or freezer burned. Yums! Everything was fantastic minus the garlic stir-fried beef, which was bland. Noodles are great with a nice amount of spice. Curry was creamy and slightly spicy. I didn't eat the pad thai since I'm allergic to peanuts, but everyone in my party seemed to like it the most (for reference, we all Asian). The dishes marked as spicy were maybe medium, so if you want spicier/milder, you can probably ask. Portions were large, and we were able to eat family style. The restaurant provided us with extra plates/bowls as needed. They refilled our water in a timely manner. We also had the mango sticky rice for dessert, which was a sweet mango with white sticky rice, drizzled in coconut cream, served warm. Tasty Asian dessert. This reflects this visit only. I've had a previous experience that was 5 star food here. Today, I got Tom Yum seafood soup $11. Decent broth, but very little substance. The meat was odd. 1 shrimp, 1 mussel, and a few unidentifiable starshaped chunks. One piece of tomato and a couple mushrooms. The rest was green onion chunks. Also got the fresh spring rolls $9 which were huge, but unfortunately were at least 95% shredded lettuce, sloppily wrapped and fell apart. Just picked out the shrimp and singular piece of cucumber. Good peanut sauce though. The thai tea was ok but small and overpriced ($5) Not impressed this time around, $25 for mediocrity that didn't match my previous visit. I'm hesitant to review a Thai restaurant for fear of being biased as I'm half Thai and often cook (Thai food) myself. Due to a recent surgery, I haven't been in the kitchen at all this past month and craved some familiar flavours of home so the husband said I could choose whatever Thai place I'd like. I've been to a handful of Thai restaurants in OKC but I'd chosen this particular Panang because it is right next to their other restaurant, Thai Street Eats, and my plan was to take home some pork on a stick and e-sarn sausages as well. Their service was attentive and friendly. They surely kept the husband's glass filled with iced water (their glasses were on the small side and he drinks like a manatee out of water ... hahahaa). In all honesty, our food selection wasn't extensive with just 3 dishes; calamari, beef radnah, and coconut ice-cream, but sometimes you can gauge a fair bit from their ingredients and how something is cooked. First off, the calamari was too dry, thus making it hard. They were coated in breadcrumbs and obviously deep fried in super hot oil and got overcooked. I don't mind broccoli in my rad nah but the addition of some Thai kale would have made the dish more authenthic. I tried to overlook the fact that they asked what spice level I wanted for my rad nah rather than serving it with sides of dried chillies, fish sauce, and chillies in vinegar because this is how things are sometimes done out of Thailand, but it still stunned me for a split second. The coconut ice-cream was served with a huge chunk of sticky rice, but the rice was plain and not creamed in coconut milk the way it is supposed to be for desserts. I was a little startled by this because serving it this way did nothing to enhance the flavour of the ice-cream. Besides, it was still steaming with heat and making the ice-cream melt so quickly! Oh .... the husband says I must reiterate that he LOVES the ice-cream and not to bash them up too much. I truly don't want to sound harsh but I just wish Thai restaurants in OKC kick things up a notch and be authentic like across the border in Texas. read more
