Was in town getting coffee at Dunkin across the street. I had googled this place earlier for breakfast café and noticed the hashbrowns. I stopped in and placed the order for to go hashbrowns. The female cashier/server was very nice and helpful. It took about five minutes to receive the two orders of hashbrowns, which ran just about $10. Inside was utensils and ketchup, which I appreciated and it was well packed. I actually took them home to serve with some items at the house for one of my kids who was under the weather I would definitely come back and try the omelettes and pancake items. I took out breakfast from here on a week day. The place was near empty at that time. Menu had a lot of interesting items. I went for a Baked banana pecan pancake. It came hot out of oven. It was not as tasty as the description of the item. Also it was a lot of food. South omelette with crispy hash browns was my other item. I think a bit more flavor would have been better. There are better places for breakfast, but the food wasn't offensive. Unfortunately both times I have been here it was the service that made me want to give up on this chain entirely. Wait staff were more interested in laughing and talking in the kitchen than they were in tending tables both times I have been here, and free refill coffee doesn't make much of a difference if nobody comes to refill it. Had to wait 10 minutes at the unattended front register to pay the bill after giving up on our waitress coming back to check on us. Others seem to have fared better, so judge for yourself. Blueberry pancakes have tiny pieces of bluenerry. They don't taste like blueberry pancakes. They were decent plain pancakes.

Slow service and unequal attention to tables in sections. For slightly dressed-up standard diner fare I'd rather go anywhere else with better waiting staff--they've got too big a dining room floor to be waiting almost half an hour for a hot coffee mug to get put down at our table. All the meanwhile the table to our left was tended to 3-4 times as we were waiting to order (I tried waving the server down as well). I did go on Memorial Day weekend but it wasn't nearly busy enough to warrant this level of service. Maybe if it's dead empty I'd stop by again! Service is slow while some employees gather at the frony desk. Or there is no one there when you want to pay. For me, it's the Pecan Oven Bake, which takes 25-30 minutes to make. It was pure robbery waffles were as flimsy as noodles, pancakes were so tough that they pulled my denture out. Eggs yuk, brisket was so dry you couldn't swallow it without drinking something. You couldn't get a glass of juice without paying extra. So if you don't drink soda or coffee you get water! The desserts looked like they came from kwik trip. My typically order is the 1-2-3 (one egg, 2 bacon, and 3 slices of pancake) with a cup of coffee this time around. The pancake was a bit on the drier side, and bacon was crispy but definitely burnt, and egg was fried but the other side was sunny side up. The area also didn't feel the cleanest or the most modern decor for the location, however the service was pleasant and the waitress was very nice and accommodating especially when I asked for more packs of sugar for the coffee, she bought an entire little container full of sugar packs! read more

To say we love this place is an understatement! It has become a tradition to go here for a least one meal when we have family in town. This past time we had family here, they ended up going back two days in a row to try other menu items! We have also order from them many times, and the quality is always the same!!! We arrived and were seated immediately but then waited almost 10 minutes for service. We ordered a steak skillet that had 3 small, rubbery pieces of steak. We were only checked on once right after the food arrived so went half of a meal without anything to drink. We then waited almost another 10 full minutes for the waitress (Onicah) to return with our check but she never returned. When we went up front to pay, she magically appeared with her mouth full of food. The tip system on the credit card system also was highest % to lowest which was a sneaky way to attempt to get a higher tip. read more

We decided to come here when the Saturday morning line at Yola's was pretty long. The place was busy but not packed and the 5 of us got seated fairly quickly. The chorizo burrito was pretty solid. The apple pancake was a bit underwhelming though and slightly burnt this time. It's a big thick pancake with apples, like 1.5-2" tall. I think it's the same pancake batter so it's not particularly sweet. I would've preferred more flavor, probably cinnamon spice, on top. Overall, nothing really special. read more

I have been a Pancake Cafe regular since I moved to Madison. They captured me with their great service and awesome crepes. Sure, it's not a fancy restaurant, but it is warm and homey. We often have the same server and she is nice and attentive. I originally ordered the spinach crepes, and realized it wasn't for me. They were happy to hook me up with the Blueberry Sour Creme Crepes, and OH HOT DAMN! I dream about those crepes. They are refreshing and delicious. The price is just right for how stuffed I was after eating just part of my crepe plate. They were so amazing, I couldn't stop eating- and I needed to be rolled home afterwards. Their coffee is simple and a good compliment the the sweet breakfast foods I enjoy. I just tried the Cinnamon French Toast and would recommend anything that comes with the cream sauce, because that was delicious. Things that didn't impress me- the cinnamon roll is lack luster, and the sausage links aren't the greasy, spicy breakfast sausage that I like to indulge in. Annual tradition of mine is to take my mom out for breakfast (brunch) around my birthday. We have been to this location before, but I haven't written a review. Place is fairly large, which I like because there often isn't a wait unless you go during a rush time. The interior itself isn't impressive, but its okay and they do offer outside seating which is nice during the warmer months. I will agree with some of the other reviews, the prices are a bit high. We had a bit of sticker shock and I even think they went up since the last time we were there. That being said... my mother and I both ordered breakfast - Meat Lovers Omelette and Belgian Waffle Strawberry. Both were quite large in size and very delicious. I had the omelette and was surprised how large it was. Very nice balance between egg, cheese and ingredients. Came out perfectly cooked and I got regular hashbrowns and an english muffin with it. The muffin was forgettable but the hashbrowns were very good. (and I seriously do not really care for hashbrowns). My mom had the waffle and it was good sided and very good. She really doesn't eat that much - often takes leftovers home to eat later. Not this time... she ate it all. I'm surprised other reviews mention bad tasting food, we were only impressed. Actually exceeded my expectations. Waitress was very nice and polite and fast. Will happily come back again. read more

I am obsessed with breakfast. So the places I go to, always have big shoes to fill. However, I have been to many pancake cafes in the area, and even this one when we lived in this area many years ago. So when I told a friend to meet me here, I had high hopes. But I was quite embarrassed. One, the prices are just outrageous for breakfast! Almost $4 more than the next restaurant! She got the eggs Benedict and almost had a panic attack when she wanted to order OJ and they only had a $5 glass. My order was a mix of pancakes, hash browns, eggs, and bacon. I basically only ate the bacon and hash browns. The eggs were so loaded with butter, they were disgusting. And the pancakes were worse than any box pancake I've ever had, they were small and bland. Definitely not worth meeting here again. Even the restaurant itself looks rundown these days. read more

Corned beef hash is one of my all-time favorite breakfast treats, but the places where it is truly excellent are few and far between. Pancake Cafe does not disappoint! More corned beef than hash, it is house-made, not too salty, and griddled on the flat top to rich, crispy perfection. One side order is more than I can eat, and the whole corned beef breakfast plate is enough for at least 2 people. Highly recommend the hashed browns loaded all the way, and the word on the street is they are even better topped with sausage gravy. Overall, the portions are large, the service is good, and this place will now be in the regular rotation for when we visit Madison. read more

Food was okay. Cheese on the hash browns were not melted all the way. The onions in the has browns were unevenly cut and some were raw while others were burnt. Our waitress was barely attentive. She messed up our order 3 times starting with the drinks. Then when the food came she gave us someone else's food. When the time came to pay she charged me for items I never ordered and did not let me see the bill till it was paid for. I asked for a receipt and she never came back with one. At the pancake cafe on Gammon Rd today. We waited over ten mistress to be greeted, then 15 minutes after we were seated before anyone came to our table. Very slow getting our food. My southwest omelet looked like it fell on the floor, see pic. My wife got no syrup for her pancakes. To top it off, my coffee had a mound of grounds at the bottom of my cup. I'm giving 2 stars for the server. She was very sweet and did the best she could as they were short staffed on a Friday morning. The food gets zero starts as it was seriously delayed and terrible (incorrect and tasteless). Over hard eggs do not mean hard boiled eggs. Medium rare steak means pink in the middle (and for goodness sake, 8oz of steak should not be 4oz of steak and 4oz of fat). Breakfast should not take 25 minutes from order to table. We won't be back. Impressively bad. First time, last time. When we arrived the hostess (cashier) told us there was a 20-minute wait despite two clean, open tables. When being seated 20 minutes later by a waitress (not the hostess/cashier), I inquired about the now four open tables and we were the second group to be seated. The waitress said that they did not have enough cooks in back to fill the tables when available. Unfortunately, everything about our experience was flat to disappointing sans our waitress. Pancakes were cold and rubbery (butter wouldn't melt), hash browns were dry, omelettes were cold (cheese was not melted) and they were overdone, coffee was okay and the OJ was delicious. If you want to pay a premium for bad food, long wait and great OJ, this is your place. read more

Came here with my boyfriend for the first time Sunday (have been many other times to the Nesbitt location, but not for a while). The experience was subpar. I got the classic eggs benedict. The poached egg had more of a chewy texture than I wanted, the hollandaise was thick, the ham tough. Cheesy hash browns were a little better. Very quick food service, but not many check-ins from wait staff (especially to fill up my coffee). I may try the Nesbitt location again, but I would probably look for other breakfast options in the area. read more

Food is good, but expensive. EVERYTHING is a la carte. $3.50 for a pop. The bacon is really good and thick, but two sides of bacon is like ordering an additional meal. The REAL problem is the service, or the lack thereof. Many reviews already focus on this issue correctly. They are more concerned with their convenience than serving customers. The staff is very internally rather than externally focused. They are at least inefficient, if not slow. Things get busy in the restaurant business. It's called "being in the weeds". This place takes it out on their customer making them wait rather than being seated at open tables. read more

I had a great time at Pancake Cafe. It's not a classy restaurant, and that's totally fine. It's a step up from Denny's but it is no brunch on the Square, if that helps put your expectations in check. We were served fairly quickly. I ordered coffee. I believe they brew Kona Hawaiian coffee. It's nothing special, but they didn't charge a lot for it. It was watered down, but I wasn't disappointed. I got a half order of Chocolate Chip Pancakes - three pancakes. At first, I was unsure about them because I was expected melted chocolate. Once I realized it was chocolate sauce, I was pleased with my food. I also got a side of hash browns. They were pretty comparable to Denny's hash browns, so I enjoyed them. read more

This place has great bacon. That's the extent of it. My Eggs Benedict was pretty well prepared but without a lot by way of flavor. Eggs themselves were perfectly done, but the English muffin down under was lacking the toasting to make it crispy. The complete lack of a trace of lemon in the Hollandaise suggests to me it's not made but poured from a Sysco barrel stored somewhere just within reach. The awful decor that this seemingly successful chain makes me wonder if I'm the only patron who finds these full color poster boards depicting conveyor belt foodstuffs to be marginally offensive. I've been to two locations. The Stoughton WI. store also sports these misleading ideals of how your food will look upon delivery, but that location also displays a complete fire sale bargain of a bankrupt roadside motels grandiose art collection from 1963! It's actually much nicer than my words depict. But I reiterate that the bacon has been worth the task of enduring the horrible Stonehenge monolithic club sandwich on display above my seat today. When family ask to go out for pancakes for breakfast they name this place. And I think of a place in Nashville where people stand outdoors in line for an hour, before making it to the indoors line where dozens of pancake variations are served, and I wonder when will I next get back there?! And that we need more authentic breakfast places on the west side! With pancake in the name I expect varied selects. Don't count on it here. The sausage patty is the best thing available food wise. I only give in to the family on the "breakfast out" request so I can get the fresh squeezed orange juice. 2 stars for that! read more

Pancake Cafe is with the times of today. You can order online if you don't have the capacity to dine in. Then if you do choose to dine in there is a comfy waiting area to sit and wait for your group to be called. There is usually a few minutes wait but never a line out of the door, which is ok for customers having to wait. I always order the Omelet Combo! It comes with a 5-egg omelet, pancakes(with strawberries, chocolate, babanas or bacon, or waffles or french toast) hashbrowns(loaded or not, or breakfast potatoes, french fries), and they leave a comment box at the bottom to add or substitute whatever you like. The food is always ready when I get there!!! The food is delicious, from the omelet to pancakes to potatoes, there is always left overs for the low price of $11(base price for all of that!). This is one of the many places to be for breakfast. The wait staff is always pleasurable, and aware of the customers needs, if they can't meet the need they willingly get a manager who can support the guests. I love this place.
