Not as good as it used to be while I was growing up. I go once in a way because my favorite Peruvian Restaurant closes so early.

First things first as I'm sure other reviewers have flagged but Lula is BYOB. We forgot that memo but luckily they partner up and recommend local wine / liquor distributors who are able and willing to swing down to the restaurant with a bottle of your favorite thing. Prices are high (on-par with what you'd expect from NYC fine dining) but the ambiance isn't stuffy and staff were kind, friendly and generally attentive. Note that the restaurant is generally loud (there is no music) so you might find yourself raising your voice to talk to your partner. The restaurant was completely busy so reservations are necessary though thankfully did not find it as competitive as NYC to get a prime-time Saturday night dinner reservation. The focaccia, a staple on Lula's menu, was excellent though I would do without the +$3 additional sardine sauce / accompaniment which I felt was unnecessary. The beef tartare was my personal favorite, light and delicious and a generous portion paired with the cream sauce and chips. We were generally satisfied by the time our entrees came out and I really enjoyed the salmon / fish dish they served along with the clams. Finishing with the Baked Alaska was also excellent (though not game-changing) and we enjoyed our time here. Would recommend a visit and think there's enough going on nearby to warrant a trip to Ridgewood, NJ regardless!

Felt very rushed; the hostess ( not our waiter) came and took my plate without asking me if I were finished or not; I had to tell her that I was still eating my dinner! Also, they serve you popcorn to nibble on while you're waiting for your dinner? Felt like we were in a movie theater or a bar/ grill! I ordered the beef carpaccio which they serve with potatoe chips; for the price that they charge for the appertizer, you would expect better! Food was good but not great! Overall not a great experience!

Beef was tangy spicy (but not too spicy) and crispy and it came out hot and fast. Appreciate the fact that the beef was not chewy or tough They also add these crispy onions on top of their bowls which is a nice touch. My boyfriend got the Cajun pork cutlet bowl over lo mein. You get to choose your base for the bowls which is nice. The lo mein noodles are thicker than the typical lo mein noodles you see at Chinese takeout, these look more like pho. Either way, I tried a bite and they were great and the flavors were there. My boyfriend also loves their soup and the homemade chips are awesome. In terms of ambiance this is more of a daytime spot. Not too many seats. It's very bright inside maybe because there's a lot of plants in there on the wall. It's still nice, just not that dim nighttime ambiance and there aren't a ton of seats . You place your order at the register or they also have a convenient self order kiosk. We will be definitely be back to try everything else on the menu.

I had the banana pudding, it was perfectly moist and not too strong on the banana. The beers were cold and refreshing on a sat night listening to live bands? Couldn't get any better! Def recommend Steel wheel for a drama free night out. But keep in mind they do get pretty busy by like 6pm. I believe they do take reservations, def make one if you plan on visiting. Otherwise you'll be on top of others by the bar aka don't be that annoying kinda person.

We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.

It's one thing to get photo updates -- and texts about her generous poops and farts -- but another thing entirely to actually hold and entertain her. Unfortunately, the delta variant delayed our "IRL" meet for many months. But when things finally died down, I met up with Meg R. at Village Green. Decor is swanky but not oppressively so, with a clientele that's older but not geriatric. It's BYOB, which probably does wonders for the liquor store across the street. If I were a restaurant owner, I might open a shop just to collect money I lost from the liquor license racket.* We had duck crepe, meatballs, and the short rib. I recommend them all, especially the duck crepe. Staff were super chill and helped us accommodate a no-res walk-in. Adelyn was great and seemed to really enjoy 1-2-3-4-5-6 in Mandarin, along with being lifted up and down like a rocket ship. No "stranger danger" stuff that you sometimes get with babies. * I'm a social democrat, and this isn't meant to be some libertarian swipe. But licensing often isn't about protecting the consumer but conferring advantage in state-constricted markets. It also compounds the struggles of running a restaurant, already a low margin business that often depends on alcohol revenue.

It was delicious! The pulled chicken was flavorful, and the pickled onions and cucumbers added a perfect crunch and zest that complemented the brown rice and kale beautifully. Their tag line of "Eat Juicy Chicken" compelled us in. Unfortunately, our first time was a bit of a flop. First, the positives. Placing your order is a cinch, either with one of many kiosks or with the folks at the counter. We opted for the latter since it was our first visit and we were paying with cash. Service at the counter was warm and friendly. While waiting for our meal, we also took notice of the wide array of pumps by the drink dispenser. They're all free sauces you can get to dress up your meal. But that was precisely where things kind of went meh. My husband's boneless breast meal was heavily sauced and rendered the whole thing a little too salty. My chicken Caesar salad was just fine, but I craved more texture (some croutons would've killed). I keep comparing our ho-hum experience to others who've raved about their meals here, and I think our mistake was two-fold: 1) We didn't order a chicken sandwich. I should've known better - when most of the signature items on a menu gravitate toward one type of item, it's a restaurant's way of hinting at their strengths. Opting to order a salad and a grilled chicken at a fried chicken place was a bad start. Learn from my mistakes. 2) We paired a saucy chicken with saucy sides. All three items in my husband's order - the meat, the Brussel sprouts, and the potatoes - were generously drizzled with a sauce. It's no wonder our taste buds breathed a sigh of relief whenever we had a bite of undressed crinkle cut fries; we were assaulting our mouths with salt and flavor. If you're a saucy person, have at it ; otherwise, I'd recommend creating a more balanced plate and ordering a few things without sauce so you can appreciate the cooking. Because in my heart of hearts, I believe items are well-prepared here; they're just doused in too much covering to be appreciated.
