I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed Pancho Anaya already. What's not to love about this place? Truly authentic Mexican panaderia with amazing pastries. My favorites are the churros (especially Bavarian stuffed that are made fresh throughout the day. They go fast, but keep making them throughout the day. I also love the jalapeño croissant thing. The bread is super soft and there is the perfect mix of cream cheese and jalapeños inside. They do get hard after a day or so, so don't try stocking up for a week at one go (learned the hard way). The flan is also excellent and has wonderful texture. They also make good coffee drinks, especially the cafe de olla, which is a classic Mexican made inside a traditional clay pot. It has a nice cinnamon undertone. They do not carry alternative mills though, so you're warnedThe space is large and accommodates a group well. read more

Recently revisited here because we were near here for a Yelp event. We always go for churros but be aware that plan accordingly. It seems like at this location plus the one in Kendall-Whittier, the churros are the first thing out the door. (And those bagel bites which we can never find.) Hubby has a sweet tooth and he adores this place. And it's always busy, people heading to the register w/ loaded trays. Recently, visiting with a friend, I advised that the pastries are better when gently heated at home. I advise this, as otherwise reported, they can be rather dry. Hubby bought me their version of Mexican Wedding Cake, my fav', and it was rather hard and dry w/ way too much powdered sugar for me. But it'd be a good dipper. My friend also bought a big, clam-looking bun, marked vanilla (there was also one marked chocolate). She said it tasted like a Cinnabon w/out the glaze. Hard to call this place a Tulsa Secret, since they have 3 locations, but man does this place deserve more press. This location is rather small and has a small cafe feel to it. It's a self service kind of establishment. Grab a tray and some tongs and go down the line, picking out what pastries you want. My favorites are: the cream cheese and jalapeno croissant; the chocolate filled bread, the bavarian cream empanadas; and of course the churros. They also offer various cakes and cookies; along with some flans and other cakes in the chilled section. Small offering of coffees and smoothies, which all make a nice light breakfast or snack. This is the newest Pancho Anaya bakery and I love how convenient it is to have them spread out throughout town (even though my weight scale might disagree). I just LOVE bread and this place makes my sweet bread dreams come true. The place itself is spacious, making it perfect for large groups to come in and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and sweet bread together or even hold events. As always, the ladies working here are extremely friendly and helpful, even letting you know when a new batch of bread is coming out so you'll get it fresh from the oven. I also love how they keep Mexican traditions alive. I was pleasantly surprised to walk in and find Day of the Dead decorations and even an altar put up! This location also has blue bell ice cream. Seriously, this is a baked good junkie's paradise. I love the vibe of this place: simple, no frills, and producing delicious food. After making a trip around the wall of baked goods, I ended up with quite a few different things. Because I'm a chunk, many of them didn't live to be photographed. What I noticed is that the goods vary in sweetness. There are things that are super sweet, like the cookies, and things that are less sweet, like some of the cakes. My favorites were definitely the cookies, particularly the sandwich cookie with strawberry glaze. I got an English Breakfast tea and two pastries for less than it would have cost to get tea in the cafe just across the street. I also like that they serve in-house drinks in real dishware rather than in paper cups. The only bummer was that they didn't have milk out for my tea. All they had was non-dairy creamer. So I just drank my tea sans milk. I visited during the COVID-19 outbreak and was pleased to see that they had hand sanitizer available in several locations in the cafe and signs that encouraged guests to use it. I've been going to their other location on 21st until this one opened up since it's between home and work. :) Walk in, grab a tray and some tongs since it's a self service place- if you have questions about what fillings are in what pastries, don't be shy and just ask! The employees are happy and friendly - bonus points if you speak Spanish - they love that! My favorite items are the churros - filled with strawberry jelly or bavarian cream (something similar), their peanut butter cookies, their bright pink sugar cookies, and their sugared donuts. Think of a glazed donut from Daylight - then double its size and instead of glaze, they roll in sugar. Why don't other donut shops make these? I don't want a sugared cake donut, I want the raised sugared one! They also have a donut "bar" - create your own donut! They take the raised donut, then you top it however you like. Maple, white, strawberry, and chocolate glazes; different toppings like nuts, cookie pieces, candy bits; then you add a drizzle - dulce de leche, chocolate, etc. Do yourself a favor and go here!! Oh, they also have sausage rolls - made from Siegi's sausage and their own flaky pastry dough - sooo yummy!!! How can I forget the Tres Leches? The pastries are serve yourself. You grab a tray and a pair of tongs, grab what you want and take the tray to the cashier, who is very friendly by the way. In search of a good mexican bakery so I stopped here based on the reviews. When I got there it was close to 7pm so there wasn't as much variety. I got several breads to taste the flavors and wasn't too happy with the breads. The only ones I liked were the calabaza empanada and a round one with jam in the middle. The concha was dry and the dough didn't have much taste. The oreja was alright. The galleta with pink on top didn't have much butter in it. I also got tiny cookies and those were very dry; they just broke and didn't taste like anything. The ladies working there were very nice though and said their bolillo was very good but I didn't get any. read more
