There are several locations throughout the Tulsa area and everything is made fresh daily. You will not get stale, old food here. Oh em geeeee! Is this not the best bakery in Tulsa or what? I always stop by after I eat at Calaveras down the street. Even if I am super full I cannot pass up a special treat to take home for later. I honestly cannot remember the names of everything I have tried, but I can confirm they are all spectacular. Before moving to San Francisco (a Mecca for some of the best food in the country), I was a regular at Pancho on Admiral in Tulsa for years. My regular go-to order was cafe con leche (cafe de olla) with a puerquito (a sweet, decadent molasses cookie shaped like a pig), an empanada calabaza (pumpkin empanada, as good as the best pumpkin pie you've ever had, except to go), and a mantecada (a pretty addictive sweet corn muffin that smells vaguely like fruity pebbles for some reason). This is far more carbs and sugar than any one human should eat in a day, let alone a single morning, but when you enter a legit Mexican bakery such as Pancho Anaya, you leave dietary restrictions at the door and surrender to the indulgent deliciousness of The Humble Neighborhood Panaderia that is Pancho Anaya. When I moved to SF, I figured I'd have zero issue finding a suitable replacement for PA (being that SF is one of the best food cities on Earth) to scratch my weekly empanada calabaza itch/addiction. I've tried every panaderia here in the city, and quite frankly, they are awful in comparison. The empanada fillings are gelatinous and generic, the puerquitos are dry and flavorless, and the prices for these subpar offerings are frankly absurd due to our housing crisis (as of this writing, the famous La Victoria panaderia in the Mission District here in SF is shutting down, at least in part due to greedy landlords). While the housing crisis isn't the panaderia's fault, the lackluster product definitely is; as such, Tulsa's Pancho Anaya remains a cut above any offering in the Bay Area. Where else in 2018 can you grab a solid $2 coffee and handmade-in-house pastries for 65 cents apiece? I travel around the country a lot for work and leisure, and I feel I can tell you with a certain degree of confidence that Pancho is where you can still do that, and as such, is truly one of the last of its kind in this day and age. Panaderias are where families go to pick up their bread for the week, where the hardworking day laborer goes to get a fat stack of morning conchas for him and his work buddies before putting in a hard 12 hours at the job site, and where kiddos much on churros and sip on orange soda after school until mom and/or dad are off work. They are not artisinal havens for handlebar mustaches to perfect their sourdough proofing technique, nor are they appropriate places to sell a $16 cup of local coffee. They are where communities gather, thrive, and in some cases, survive. A good panaderia arguably provides community services more than it does consumable goods. Panaderias like PA are places that ultimately just sell bread, sure. But my God, they are so much more than just a place that sells bread. Pancho is a cornerstone of the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood and really the city of Tulsa as a whole. It is almost our civil duty to patronize it. I could go on for an endless number of paragraphs touting the virtues of this glorious gem of a bakery, hidden deep within a deep-red midwestern town that, by its voting statistics alone, one could surmise would very much want places like this to be wiped clean from their city and planet Earth as a whole and replaced with Dunkin Donuts and Cool Coffee Shops. But ultimately, Pancho Anaya transcends politics, preferences, dietary restrictions, and Mother Earth's geography itself, and simply thrives--because providing a great gathering place for the community (and arguably just as important, great pastries) Trumps all. Also, until a proper, legit panaderia pops up here in the Bay Area, I'll keep loading up on my usual order every time I'm back home to visit to scratch that empanada itch. Pancho Anaya Bakery is the GO TO place for a variety of Mexican sweet breads for the office. Empanadas & Piggy Ginger bread. The prices are about $.66 each and WELL worth it. 10 seconds in the microwave and a cup of coffee just makes your morning! I just loved this place! You grab a tray and tongs and then pick the goodies you want. I definitely recommend the churros and Mexican bread pudding! I Also recommend their flan and fresh baked breads. I wasn't in love with their Mexican style croissant or donuts a little too bready than what I am used to. Tulsa's best panaderia hands down. They sell classic Mexican baked goods just how you'd buy them down south. The price is about the same too! The bollios they make are used at the majority of Mexican restaurants in town for Tortas. Great service, very clean. read more

We had Pancho Anaya catered to our school one day and I have been wanting to go to the location myself to check it out ever since and I am so happy that I finally got to! It is such an awesome experience, delicious, and an amazingly good deal! Walking in it kind of reminded me of a korean bakery type feel (like 85 degrees if anyone has ever been there!). You get a tray and grab whatever you want and there is a HUGE assortment of pastries ranging from $0.65 to around $2? Since it was my first time we basically got one of everything that really caught our eyes and a mango smoothie which all turned out to be around $20. I don't really remember the names of everything but what really stood out to me was their churros! Oh my gosh they were so good we went back and bought some more before we even finished. The only thing that I really didnt like was the mango smoothie, it tasted a little bit too artificial for me but otherwise everything was delicious! I will definitely be back again. read more
