Pancho's is a fun local Mexican restaurant in Culpepper. However, I was disappointed by the food and service on my visit today. I ordered the Fajita Chicken Quesadilla ($14....). It came with guac and sour cream, which was nice. However, it was drowning in grease. This was disappointing. The chicken was and onions were not evenly proportioned. The cheese was subpar and lacked flavor. We had to ask 3 servers to get our chip refill. The chips were good and crispy, but the salsa was chunky and mushy. To top it off, there was a 3% credit card surcharge. Not impressed with this place anymore. However, it does have a cool Mexican cultural atmosphere which gave it some redeeming quality. read more

The food was served hot, fresh, and delicious. Loved the chile relleno and steak fajitas. Young server was terribly disorganized and would disappear and sometime much later show back up but forgot to get what she went to get. So many wasted trips for napkins, straws, hot sauce, water. This restaurant is a WOW level. Great find. Everything is so freash and the chips and hard tortillas have the perfect crispness without falling apart while eating. The salsa was also delicious. Just enough kick to be tasty, but not too hot for most people. We had the unsweetened ice tea. It may not be a big deal to many, but smooth, fresh iced tea is very important to us. Family of 5 adults out on the patio. Super nice! Alcohol and app's all around. Ordered 5 meals. Meals arrive. Daughter requested that 1 cheese enchilada (1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 cheese, 1 bean) be switched to a chicken enchilada. All 4 enchiladas arrived as chicken. Wife's meal, quesadillas, and my side of beans were not made by the kitchen at all so obviously never arrived. No food for wifey! Waitress completely disappears, never see her again. "Assistant Manager" came to table to fix. No harm, no foul...Mexican food usually comes out super-fast. Everything will be fine in 5-10 minutes. By the time the 2 replacement meals arrived, the 3 that got their meals had finished eating. Family dinner ruined! Daughter and wife ask for boxes. I asked for the check. No doubt expected something, most likely those 2 meals, anything, to be comped! Got the full bill! Got "Assistant Manager" back, he appears miffed at our annoyance. No one is yelling, no one was making a scene, you gotta do the right thing. We would have come back. He gets the "Manager". The "Manager" very reluctantly gives us 10% of the $200 bill. Went back to Pancho last night for a little last minute dinner, and we were actually pleasantly surprised! The place was crowded, the food was prompt and delicious, and the drinks as always are huge! However, not once did our server ask about any allergies, so I didn't think to mention I have a mild peanut allergy - as Mexican food pretty much never has peanuts in it and I've eaten here without issue several times. However, I almost never eat anything fried. Not sure if it was something fried, or sautéed, etc, but I left the place broken out in a huge reaction. When I asked the servers if they could check with the kitchen just so I could know how screwed I was (and if I needed my Epi), they ran back there and I heard the cooks immediately say "yes, why?" and one of them curse. 5 minutes of scrambling later and he came out and assured me "no, we don't cook with peanut oil", but then another server came running asking if I wanted her to call me an Ambulance.... safe to say although the food is good...that was handled incredibly inappropriately and I am lucky I always carry benedryl in my purse / live close by.... we won't be returning... read more

Placed an order for pick up Friday night. Upon arrival at the restaurant, only half of my order was in the bag; I was missing one out of two entrees ordered. After a few mins, my other entree was ready. When I got to the car, I checked to make sure my meal was prepared correctly, and it wasn't. I went back inside and explained I had ordered enchiladas with cheese sauce and no red sauce. What they gave me was covered in red sauce and no cheese sauce. Two employees, a rude female and a rude male, proceeded to argue with me about what I had ordered lol like I didn't know what I had ordered when I called the order in! Finally after going back and forth, they reluctantly took what they gave me back, and went back to re make my food. I asked to speak to the manager, (call me a Karen, I don't care; I work hard for my money) Tonya, who was fairly pleasant, but not at all helpful. She basically just smiled and nodded and pretended to be "taking notes." As I'm walking to the car, another employee comes out saying his brother had something for me. So I see the same male employee standing at the door with a bag of food in his hand, and when I asked if that was actually my correct order, he waved me off and said "everything is fine. It's okay." I think they had mistakenly mixed up my order with someone else's and instead of just admitting it and making it right, they chose to try and cover it up. Anyway, the food was bomb. I'll give it to them on the food; the food is really good. Which is even more disappointing that the customer service is so poor. The next day, despite how bad the customer service was the food was good. I decided to try them again, in hopes they would redeem themselves. Maybe it was just a bad night. Placed an order over the phone, again the customer service was totally lackluster. Went to go pick it up; the young woman at the counter was pleasant; but the same rude female from last night brought my food out and practically tossed it at me. Not a greeting, not a smile anywhere to be found. She's obviously very unhappy at this job and it is evident all over her face. I checked to make sure that my order was correct and it was. However, I did not notice until I got home that the cheese dip was barelyyyyy half full, and that's being generous, and I didn't have any salsa. Sigh. Here we go again. Again, I work hard for my dollars, and if I'm going to spend it at your business, I want it right. I wasn't charged HALF for that cheese dip lol I was charged full price for a barely half full product. I called the restaurant, asked for the manager, and a young man got on the line. He explained he was not the manager but the manager was not there at that time. I asked for his name, and he refused to give me his name. He stated he was "not allowed" to give out his name because they have been "scammed" lots of times. But I'm prettyyyyy sure all the servers where name tags in there lol so yeah. Another rude, unhelpful employee. Sorry Pancho Villa. As good as your food is, the hassle of dealing with rude employees and bad customer service, is not worth it, not to mention messing up TWO orders. At one time, this might have been the best place to eat in town but now, there are too many other places out there to choose from. Y'all need to step it up. read more

Well folks - who knows what's going on here. After being closed for several months, husband drove by this location yesterday & apparently they're up & running again. Although the signs still say "Pancho Villa", this location is now listed on the "Don Eladio" website as a "Don Eladio's", which is owned by the exact same owners as the long-standing "Pancho Villa". Maybe they just haven't bothered to change the signage yet. Regardless, menu looks identical to the old Pancho Villa, & with ownership the same, I have doubts that much, if anything, has changed. read more

We were in town for the mardi gras festival today and I was craving Mexican food so we stopped in here. My expectations for Mexican are not too high, I enjoy everything from Chipotle to Rosa Mexicana. If it comes with salsa, guacamole and cheese, I'll eat it. However, we were pretty disappointed with this place. The first thing I noticed was that the prices seemed kind of steep for this kind of restaurant in this kind of area. I don't have a problem paying extra for really delicious food, so I remained hopeful that it must have meant it would be really good. Unfortunately, the food was average, the service was slow, and the prices did not reflect the quality of food. The salsa was watery with only a few chunks of onion. For $8.50 we ordered the queso dip with chorizo. The portion was smaller than we've ever received at any other restaurant and the cheese hardened before we finished it and we were left scraping hard chunks of cheese out of the bottom of the pan. The entrees were forgettable, my carne asada tacos served with only steak and a few very small sides of pico, "spicy" salsa verde and guac in some disposable plastic to go ramekins. Service was very slow. No lunch menu. All together lunch for 2 cost us $44 pre-tip. That seems a little steep for a sub-par Mexican joint in culpeper. Wish we had gone to the Thai place across the street which has great reviews. Please don't waste your money. read more
