I had supper last evening on the patio at Pancho Y Emiliano (on Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market) with my friends, Trish and Yvette. Trish and Yvette shared an order of Guacamole Vegan (Mashed avocado seasoned and topped with pico de gallo, served with fresh corn chips). Trish had Enchiladas Vegan (Three corn tortillas filled with sautéed sweet peppers, onion and mushrooms. Topped with a zesty green tomatillo sauce and garnished with sour cream, fresh cheese, and onion. Refried beans and rice on the side.). Yvette had Camarones en Verde (Sauteed shrimp served with our light and fresh-tasting mole verde sauce, made with a delicious combination of seeds, tomatillo, chiles, and aromatic green herbs. Rice and salad on the side.). I had Choriqueso (Melted cheese with chorizo, served with flour tortillas). The friendly staff took good care of us.

Guacamole - a very shareable portion for 2!

We finally tried this cute, dimly-lit sit-down restaurant on the main strip of Kensington Market! This place was such a good find! The portions were very generous and we left stuffed and happy. Pro tip: order these two dishes together: the guacamole and the choriqueso (this is chorizo plus cheese). With the tortillas and the chips, you can make a super combo between them and it's cool and hot, crunchy and soft, and so perfect! Also, their fish tacos were perfect-- super delicate fish, perfectly battered, with the right amount of toppings that had an unexpected bit of sweetness. So good!

We were passing through Chinatown and decided to have a drink and a snack before heading back to Burlington to get ready for dinner reservations. This establishment sits right on the strip so there is a good opportunity to have drinks and people watch. I would suggest adding additional shade to allow for more people to sit outside. We opted to sit inside which is the upstairs of the restaurant as the only tables available was in the sun! We ordered a spicy margarita, spicy Paloma and ceviche. The spicy margarita was made really cute but it was more on the sweet side. The Paloma was ok! The ceviche required more seasoning as it was bland but the seafood was fresh.

Absolutely delicious! I'm so happy I walked by this restaurant in the iconic Kensington Market district. Such a friendly and welcoming vibe. Indoor and outdoor seating, friendly service, and fantastic food. I had the Coctel de Camaron, which was fresh and refreshing. I also enjoyed the Choriqueso, which was gooey, yummy and all good things. The sangria was excellent as well. I really want to come back over and over and try everything on the menu.

Terrible service, RUDE staff who took the ordered of someone behind me who was Hispanic speaking. Atrocious!!!

Rude staff who don't care. I waited in line for 10 minutes for these two Millenials ahead of me to order. Fine, I waited patiently. Then when it was my time to order, the staff took the order of the Spanish speaking guy behind me. Like what??? I expected more from Kensington Market and this place was not only a disappointment but discriminatory. I will NOT be supporting this establishment in the future. Ended up walking away because I was so disgusted.

This place caught our eye while walking through Kensington. It is a small place, they had set up social distancing barriers on the patio and it was nice. We ordered the guacamole, vegetarian tamale and a margarita. We were so full, we could not eat another bite after all this. The guacamole was served in a edible tortilla bowl, and there was a lot of it and it was DELICOUS! The tamale was done well and very filling. The Margarita was delicious, very well flavoured. I would definitely go back again to try more items.

My friends and I were walking in Kensington Market, and were really hungry. This place's menu caught our eye. It's a very small restaurant, not really decorated and kind of old looking, but they have a very cute patio outside. If you choose to sit inside, the fans are extremely loud and it might be hard to hear yourself speak. The menu is diverse, they have an item on the menu for everyone! We ordered the guacamole entree. The portion wasn't big, but it felt enough for 3 people. The guacamole was very good! We also ordered the pollo tacos. It comes with 3 small tacos in the plate. They were delicious, but a little bit small which felt a little much for the price. The service is very quick, and the waiters are friendly and can explain the menu items if you're not sure of what to have. We also had a misunderstanding with the waiter, but they were very nice about it. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and want to grab a quick bite!

Although there is nothing outstanding at Pancho y Emilliano, it is a perfectly good spot to park it in the market. Where other spots have outstanding food, this spot has table service and a great view looking out from an elevated perspective with a neat vista along Baldwin St. The interior is peaceful and has cool and fascinating pictures of Mexico and I found my thoughts wandering there, catching me in a reverie. Oh, and I hope NOTHING changes when they get a liquor license here. I dig your vibe Pancho.

This spot is located at the heart of Kensington market. When I came for dinner there was live music and it was a very lively atmosphere. The patios are sanitized between customers and the servers are wonderful! The food was delicious, however it is on the pricier side. Very little quantity for what you're paying. I got the ceviche and chicken tacos. The tacos were tasty and juicy and if summer had a taste it would ceviche( however u only get like 6-7 small tortilla chips so it's not that great for sharing). Overall if you just want to relax on a patio with good music this is the place to go :)

The place is a bit small so it can be a bit tight so I would highly recommend having reservations if you have a large group. Tacos: The soft and the crispy tacos were both delicious. The tinga chicken and the beef barbacoa were juicy and full of flavour. The portions was fair, the quality was a standout and tasted quite authentic. Overall, I really had a great experience at Playa Cabana, totally would come here again to try out their other dishes.

Parking was a challenge, but there is a Green P that is about 5-8 minutes away that isn't too bad if the weather is good. The atmosphere is quite intimate and I did find myself bumping into other people / staff when going to and from the washroom, etc. The food was pretty good - the tacos were full of flavour and I got to try a variety by sharing with the group. I think my favourite was the beef barbacoa. The prices are definitely a bit up there for a Mexican restaurant, I believe the tacos were around $7 each. The quality made it worth it, but there's definitely other places in Toronto that serve up a great taco for nearly half the price. We also tried a couple of appetizers, including the nachos, guac and ceviche. The nachos were something special - it was a bit of a nacho pizza. I didn't expect that from Playa Cabana, given everything else was very authentic. The taste was good, but it was a bit of a challenge to share! The highlight of the night was definitely the desserts - we ordered the tres leches cake, and the churros. Definitely the best churro I've ever had.

We got lucky and they were able to squeeze us into seats at the bar area, which ended up being the best possible spot because we had a front-row view of the live fire cooking the entire night. The ambiance was lively and hip, with a great energy that made the whole experience feel exciting. This was my first time watching each main courses get cooked over live fire in real time, which added to our amazement given that all the dishes came out cooked to the right doneness. Every bite of meat and seafood was perfectly kissed with flame -- the char, the subtle smoke, the texture. Beyond the fire element, you can really taste how fresh everything is. Nothing felt heavy or muddled. Each dish was well thought out with balanced flavors, but the ingredients and that fire/smoke magic were always the main event. Service was also superb. All the staff were attentive and high-energy. Different servers checked up on us throughout the meal, our water was always kept full, and dishes were cleared in a timely manner. Only drawback: the heat. Sitting by the fire is incredible for the show, but it definitely started to feel like a sauna at times. Still, I'd do it again and choose to sit at the bar without hesitation. If you're in Toronto and you love a tasting menu, this is a must. Just make sure you book at least a month in advance - it's popular for a reason.

Quetzal was recommend by our server when we were dining at a Vancouver Michelin restaurant (Barbara), as our server was originally from Ontario. Every dish was amazingly flavoured and presentation was on point. Atmosphere was lovely too, laid back but chic. Comfortable yet elevated. Highlight was the scallops, we asked for it to be included on our set menu, and they delivered. Can't wait to go back!

The inside was nice, it was dark with ambient lighting and decorated with a modern and Mexican theme. The waitress was super nice, and the staff were fairly attentive. We got the chips and guac to start. I do wish they gave a little bit more walk because it came in this really small cup so we had to go light on the guac to chip ratio. But overall the guac was yummy and the chips were very crunchy with a nice seasoning. They have a special every day of the week and Thursdays are there crunch tacos, which are hard shell tacos, wrapped in a soft shell taco with some sauce in between, and you can choose between their chorizo or chicken. You enter the restaurant from a set of stairs outside and the restaurant doesn't look too appealing from outside. Also, the restaurant always seems busy and/or small, so it's always loud and service is slow. With the negatives out of the way, let me explain why I love La Carnita! The food is amazing! Their tacos are on point, and with so many to choose from I can go back multiple times can never get bored. Each of their tacos has something different to offer and each has relatively good balance to them. The balance of freshness and savory (and sometimes sweet) toppings is well done, making me come back for more. The one item that pushes La Carnita over the top is their nachos! Homemade nacho chips with gooey cheese and a generous amount of toppings makes them my favorite nachos in Toronto! One last observation is that the service is always friendly. They may be (very) slow at times but they seem like they always try their best and are always quite pleasant. Overall, I love La Carnita and when I get a craving for tacos and nachos, I'm heading straight here!
