The spring rolls - obviously I should have paid more attention to the picture in the menu. They were almost entirely full of romaine lettuce, with exactly one-half piece of shrimp in each one. And a little container of sweet chili sauce that definitely had come out of a bottle. And the tom yum soup was the most disappointing thing. It was spicy at least but did not have any of the lemongrass or lime leaves that would give it the signature taste. Was just a broth with a little coconut milk and some chunks of tomatoes and mushrooms, and some unbelievably overcooked shrimp. I feel like if I had had this meal dine-in, I would have been able to ask for some pepper and lime and that would have helped. But I was very disappointed with this as a takeout meal. Like the Council Bluffs location, they have a break between lunch and dinner service, and are closed on Sundays.

There was a fun moment when a customer stopped by the counter after dining and yelled, "Compliments to the chef! You put Church's to shame!" Church's Chicken opened with much fanfare a year or two ago, providing this part of the city with the only fast food chicken until now. Our chicken came out fast, crunchy, and moist. Good job. Everything was flavorful and delicious, and the quality has remained very consistent over the years. The interior was actually nicer than I remembered as well! One small food-related complaint was the panang curry. The kaffir lime leaves had been chopped into very tiny pieces rather than left whole. They add a wonderful flavor to the curry, but the leaves themselves have a pretty rough, unpleasant texture and typically aren't something you actually eat. Because they were chopped so small, I kept having to pick little pieces out as I ate, which was a bit annoying. I'd definitely prefer them left whole so they can easily be removed. Unfortunately, the service was also about as poor as I remembered. It was very slow and inattentive, and we had to flag our server down anytime we needed something rather than having him check back with us. Overall, though, the food continues to be excellent and is absolutely the reason we'll keep coming back. Salween remains one of those places where the quality and flavor of the food really deliver.

The pad Thai normally comes with bean sprouts, but we prefer to get it without. You can select the spiciness level from 1-10 to match your preferences. The prices were all very reasonable for the amount of food we received. I'd recommend for take out to call early because the wait can get long, especially weekend dinners. The restaurant is always looking clean every time I do a to go as well. Definitely worth checking out for your Thai food needs!
