Before eating here today, I had lost hope in Chinese food here in the Treasure Valley.... Ok, haven't tried THAT many places, but still!! I only orders a quick lunch; pork fried rice and spring rolls - yes, I know, VERY authentic choices but I gauge my trust in a random Chinese place with basics! I was pleasantly surmised. Spring rolls were freshly made and contained fresh cooked veggies and actual whole shrimp pieces. They were perfectly fried. My friend rice was also extremely fresh! Sautéed veggies and Chinese pork complimented with actually pan fried rice! Rice had that perfect greasy texture from the pork without actually being greasy. Atmosphere is that of your perfect hole in the wall. Looks like an old Taco Bell on the outside. Didn't spend too much time away from the counter but appeared clean. Our first time having Chinese food in Boise! The food was tasty and plenty warm when it arrived on a very cold day. We had vegetable lo mein, vegetable fried rice, and veggie spring rolls. Very satisfied. The spring rolls were still crispy, not soggy. The delivery charge is reasonable ($4), food arrived on time (a bit early in fact, which was nice), and the driver was friendly. Not sure I'd rate it as exceptional, but overall a great experience and exactly what we hoped for. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Panda Garden again. read more

Make a Vegetarian great again! My wife and I LOVED this place. The owner I presume (also the lady managing this place) was always so kind and accommodating of my requests as I was a vegetarian. You might as well slap yourself with a cabbage than eat a cucumber roll. BUT, for this place !!! She would make me these crispy California rolls without any meat in them and man that would bring a tear of joy. Long waiting time, below average food. We had a party of 4 and waited 50 mins only to find out that one of our order wasn't captured and another was wrong. We ordered pineapple fried rice but the chef forgot to put pineapple into it... And it had tomato sauce in it (we didn't order omurice in case you're wondering). The waitress did not bother to find out what she was serving as well, as she came to our table to serve us "teriyaki chicken" (which we did not order), when it was actually mala chicken. She went back to clarify only after we asked exactly what that dish was. The only dish that's worth the one star is probably the hot and sour soup. The food is good; well prepared, not overly salty (as some Chinese food can be), service is friendly and prompt. They seem to whip up our to-go orders rather quickly, which is also a bonus. So, don't let the somewhat dodgy appearance fool you; this place is worth it. You'll find a large, diverse menu with sushi, well-made food and prompt service. I cannot talk about service since I didn't place the order. My order was Chopped Garlic Chicken with Brown Rice. First of all, there were so many vegetables in my order that I couldn't even taste the chicken. If I order chicken, I want to eat chicken and want my salad on the side. This WAS one of my favorite little quirky places to grab carry out but sadly no more. This time I had an hour to kill so I decided to dine in. Boy was that a mistake. I arrived late morning. Not a customer in sight but the place was TRASHED. The lady apologized and said it had been a really busy night. So I deducted that this was last night's mess. First red flag. Second was that there were customer credit card receipts sitting out on a table as if they were just doing their books out in public. I will try to limit this to three paragraphs but it's going to be really hard. I should have left then but like I said I had an hour to kill and had liked the food previously. 3rd red flag. She brought out a salad when I would have actually opted for miso soup. It was DRENCHED in ranch and basically inedible. 4th red flag and I hate to say it but there was a dark HAIR between two pieces of sushi. I was about a third of the way through the meal. I calmly brought it to her attention and she apologized and said she'd remake it. I should have just walked out but instead I almost felt sorry for her. Until the icing on the cake. Please stay with me until the end... I calmly replied I'd take it to go. It was an inconvenience but whatever. At this point I was starting to wonder if she would still charge me for my meal. She did. I didn't have energy to fight. After all she did remake it. Notice I'm STILL giving benefit of doubt. She said 7.95. I handed her 20. Now I usually give her 25% but listen up because this is the most important part... She handed me back a 5 and some ones. I didn't count it...Silly me...STILL BEING A NICE PERSON I PUT 2 DOLLARS IN HER JAR. I LATER FOUND OUT SHE HAD SHORTED ME 2 DOLLARS AND HAD GIVEN ME BACK 10 INSTEAD OF 12. SHE ALSO WATCHED ME PUT TWO EXTRA DOLLARS IN HER JAR AND SAID THANK YOU. Last thoughts... One of two sketchy things happened here...actually the WHOLE thing was sketchy. So she either gave me back the wrong change unintended which is negligent or assumed a tip which is immoral and undeserved especially given circumstances. Final thought... How do you sleep at night? Don't you care about your business? Your customers? You just lost a long time customer and I hope that for the sake of your future customers you clean up everything. Your store and your act. Or maybe find a different business because obviously the restaurant business isn't for you. Seriously. There's so much more I could say but I know this is already a novel so thanks for reading. Dad & I have been here for lunch several times and have enjoyed each of our visits. They serve great food at very reasonable prices. Just recalling the Shrimp Lo Mein makes my mouth water! I'm a big fan of their seaweed salad. It doesn't taste any better than anyplace else, really, but they do such a nice job with presentation. Always something a little different, like on a plate with tomatoes or with planks of cucumber underneath. All the sushi we've tried has been excellent. Good proportion of fillings to rice, and well rolled. Fresh & tasty. Dad's litmus test for Chinese restaurants is their Egg Foo Young, particularly if they have Shrimp. Panda Garden does, and this has to be his favorite Egg Foo Young in the area. Hot, delicious, and full of nice-sized shrimp. We have started getting an extra order to take home. Service has always been fast and friendly, and they consistently keep my soda full. Just a few disappointing things: The last few times we've been there, the fish tank has been gross-looking with cloudy water and sickly fish. If they can't keep it up, please just get rid of it. I ordered the Crispy Sesame Beef (Hunan), a "house specialty", for $9.50 (served with white or brown rice). Here is the description of this dish from the menu: "A delicate & remains (this is their typo, not mine) Hunan Dish, Thick slices of Prime Beef dipped in Lotus flour , Fried & Cooked in an exquisite Sesame seed Sauce." I say, "In your dreams." The dish held-out promise when it was delivered to my table by a very friendly young fellow; very cheerful. The more I ate the meal, the more I disliked it. I suspect it was loaded with monosodium glutamate (MSG), because my tongue now feels like a piece of cardboard and I fear my taste buds may have been annihilated for life; I also have the telltale MSG headache at the back of my neck. The slices of beef were anything but "thick" and it certainly was not "prime" at all. Also, what the Hell is "lotus flour"? Furthermore, the "... exquisite sesame seed sauce" that they describe has the consistency of Gorilla Glue. I now know how the Great Wall of China has managed to remain standing since 210 BC; they used sesame seed sauce as mortar. I also ordered iced tea, $1.65. There may have been some tea in there but you could not prove that by me. It was weak and tasteless. However, it managed to wash-down the MSG. As to ambiance, the place is as comfortable as the Baltimore Greyhound bus depot and, like so many restaurants of this ilk in Boise, Idaho, it needs a deep scrubbing. In addition, the place appears to have once been a Mexican fast-food place ... you know ... arched windows and the "adobe look". This clashes with the menu, to say the least. They also serve sushi. The best Chinese food in the area hands down. It looks a little sketchy from the outside but it's definitely worth it. We got the sliced garlic pork, moo shu chicken, and the curry chicken. All three options had a nice ratio of meat to vegetables so you got a little something with every bite. I typically don't order pork but I'm glad that we did. The pork was in small bite sized pieces and not overwhelming with the garlic sauce. Overall we would order it again. The curry chicken has some kick! I love curry and it was a very well balanced yellow curry. The food wasn't drowning in curry sauce which was awesome because I have had some where it's just drowning in sauce and no actual food substance. Definitely would recommend this dish for those that like spice. The moo shu chicken is just an all around favorite of mine. The pancakes they use here are sturdier than most I have had in the past and it's nice to not always be dropping your food. The portions are BIG so plan on taking home leftovers! read more

Last night I had a craving for some good American/Chinese and this place fit the bill perfectly. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, veggie fried rice, and pot stickers. I went to pick up and the food was ready in 15 minutes. I like that they close at 10:30 on a week night - rare in Boise. The place is a cute if a bit run down, but I'm not there for the ambiance when I want to stuff my face with buttery fried rice, now am I? The staff was friendly and efficient. I'm giving it four stars because it's really good for what it is, and the fried rice is probably the best I've had in town. The pot stickers were definitely the best in town. And the price is right! If your wondering why Im saying this is because i was a Staff Sergeant Promotable to Sergeant First Class which is similar to a Supervisor promotable to Manager and was in charge of about 16-18 soldiers. My job in the Army was a Combat Engineer (Looks for any explosive device and we also work with Infantry) but not only do we train our soldiers (Employee) on there job but to also prepare them for the worst (War). I'm also working for Washington Traffic Patrol and I'm always traveling to Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and California...Etc...a lot. I bought a 2017 Toyota 4-Runner on Feb 2017 and my mileage is close to 45,000. On early Jan 2018 I was passing thru and came across Panda Garden located at 2801 Overland, Boise ID 83705 Phone #208-433-4235 , lunch time and I decided to pull in to get something eat but like always before entering a restaurant I always read the review. I saw some negative review but wanted to experienced it myself. Every time I walked into a restaurant for the first time I always monitored how the customer service is and I sometimes walked in dressed like a homeless or just dressed like someone who couldn't afford to buy much but mainly because if some, if not most judge you on how you look but surprisingly they welcomed me like any other customer as well. What I've experienced they were all family friendly. First thing I notice was how all the workers greeted all the customer that walks in and this are the people I came across Cashier, Cooks and other employees but most of all the Manager Fanny made me feel welcomed. They greeted me professionally and with awesome attitude. I've ever been many other Chinese or Japanese restaurant around the world while I was in the Army and I travel a lot to different states and been to so many but honestly Panda Garden beats every one that I been to, Panda Express ....Etc.. I was surprise not only was the whole area was clean including the restroom and tables are always wiped down. Customer service was more then outstanding. I was surprised how Fanny (Manager) approach customer who has common disabilities with respect and with outstanding customer service. Even if a customer is having problem either understanding or comprehending she always treat any customer just like how she would want to be treated. What also caught my attention was Fanny offered a homeless some food and never ask for anything. So since that day I saw how Fanny and her workers are, I'm always there giving her a helping hand by cleaning and much more. The Restaurant might not look like a 5 star restaurant but don't judge the book by its cover. Price for the meal was reasonable and the food tasted delicious especially the Sushi but especially the customer service was more then outstanding. I also found out there's a Lunch Special served Monday-Saturday 10:30am-3:00pm and the price is perfect especially if you just want to try it out. Yes I would definitely return back again to this Panda Garden even if I'm from a different Universe and was told if I wrote this letter I will get a lifetime of free awesome food...lol..but after noticing all these Ive experienced at this restaurant I wanted to take my time to write this to you regardless if there's a dead line I have to meet and to hopefully this helps to get more customers. This place was a little further out of our way for lunch, but because of the reviews we had to check it out. It's a small place with a pretty sweet menu of options. We all got lunch specials and have to say we are impressed! The service was awesome. Super friendly and funny staff make it really easy to relax and enjoy yourself. Also the hot and sour soup that comes with the lunch special is awesome. You will not regret it. Nor will you regret the seafood rolls. I had the Ma-La chicken dish and it was a great portion and had lots of spicy kick to it. We are definitely coming back to this great little gem in the city. I would give it 5 stars, but the bathrooms are outside and there's always room for improvement. But if you're on the fence about whether to try this place or not, just do it.
