I took two teenagers there on Saturday February 8 2025. I was charged $75, which would be a crime anywhere but even worse here because the restaurant is FILTHY and the food was barely edible. Even the teenagers had no appetite for the food.

Went there on a Sunday afternoon for family of 4. They have a temperature taker right before you get to the cash register to check in your party and pay first before they bring you to your table. The buffet has a smaller selections compare to all the big chain buffets. It's more of a Hmong buffet. They have a pho station where you can requests for pho, curry noodle soup, spicy noodle, boat pho, white rice and sticky rice. I had the spicy noodles (where they only do it in the weekends.) it was pretty good. The boat pho is pretty decent too. I say compare to a lot of places it's not bad at all. The nab van was not bad but I feel like the coconut milk they have is a little bit water down. I'm thinking they use the powder coconut to make coconut milk. Spicy chicken was good as it has a hint of sweet and spicy to it. Chicken drumstick was quite crispy. Overall the food was pretty good not bad at all. Only downfall is I feel like they were a little bit short staff as many tables didn't get refills on their beverages nor were they collecting away dirty dishes. The selections of hot foods weren't being stock fast enough. There were a few times when we went up and there wasn't any thing stock. (Which is why it's not a 5 star.) So we went to the pho station more. I have to admit the lady that was working the pho station did a great job of constantly stocking the pho station, checking on the tri color station, and making sure everything on that side is stock. So kudos to her.

For a Asian Hmong buffet, it's really good. They are clean and the food are so organized. The waitress is super nice and sweet. I have no complaint about the food. If you want a mix of Chinese and Hmong food, this is the place. I fly all the way from California just to try this place out. It's worth the flight!

Not a fan of this place. Food is bland but I like the options. Wished it was a little more flavorful.

From the moment we walked in, the experience was less than welcoming, primarily due to the cashier, Jessica. Her attitude was rude and dismissive right from the start. When I tried to explain that my twins were 9, turning 10 at the end of August, she questioned them about their birth years. This felt unnecessary and condescending. Upon receiving the bill, which totaled $321, I inquired about the pricing since it seemed excessively high. Jessica stated the per-person charge was $29.99, but when I calculated it, the numbers didn't add up. She mentioned taxes without disclosing that a service fee had also been added. This lack of transparency was frustrating, especially when I only discovered the service fee after swiping my card. The service continued to disappoint throughout our meal. Our server rarely checked on us, failing to offer refills or clear our plates until I had to find someone to address the situation myself. When she finally came over, she made a rude comment about crab peels on the table, which felt unwarranted. I explained that if she had been more attentive, we could have avoided that mess. We tried our best to keep the table clean under the circumstances. Regarding the food, some items appeared to be past their prime, such as old lemons that I pointed out to Jessica, who remained unhelpful and rude in her response. Overall, my experience at Sumo Buffet was incredibly disappointing. I would strongly advise against dining here--there are far better options available in the area. It's clear that customer service and food quality are not priorities for this establishment. Next time, I'll make sure to read the reviews before choosing a restaurant.

But there is definitely room for improvement. We went for lunch on a Monday. It was busier than I expected, but not overwhelming. My understanding is that they have fewer hot items at lunch compared to dinner. That said, most of the buffet was salad options. There were lots of dressings and toppings, which is great if you love salads and want to mix and match. But for me, I like meat and hot items, so I was disappointed by the lack of those options. The majority of the buffet space really is just for salads. I do wish the staff had asked if we had dined there before. We had not, so it was a little confusing. For example, we didn't know they had trays, so we just grabbed plates until we noticed everyone else carrying trays around. I also wasn't sure if I was supposed to get a new tray each trip or reuse the same one, so I just brought my old one back up. We also didn't know if we were supposed to wait for a waiter or waitress to greet us before going up to the buffet. We just got up, and our waitress introduced herself while we were awkwardly walking toward the buffet. Again, she was very nice. The process was just unclear for first-timers. As for the food itself, most of what I had was either just okay or not something I really loved. There were a few great items, though. The Adobo Chicken for tacos was delicious. The cookies were great too. They tasted like the old Subway cookies, which I mean as a big compliment. The Chicken Teriyaki was also good. The ambiance is really nice. There are windows EVERYWHERE! The place seemed pretty clean, which is especially important for a buffet. The bathrooms are outdated, but fine. The ice cream was good, and I liked that they had hot fudge available. The soups, pizza, a pasta I had, breadsticks, and several other items I tried were just not great. A lot of it felt like something I could make better at home. And for the cost, I feel like I could get something better somewhere else. It was about $20 per person for lunch, which isn't terrible, but also isn't great for what was offered. One thing that confused us (yet again) was tipping. You pay beforehand, and there does not seem to be an option to tip the waitress with a card. We also weren't really waited on much (it's a buffet, so you do most of the "work"), but she did get us waters and cleared our plates, so we left a few dollars in cash. If we hadn't had cash on us, we would not have been able to leave anything. Maybe they don't expect people to tip, but again, it was just another confusing part of the experience. One thing I appreciated was that they had gloves available to use when dishing up food. That was nice, especially if you are concerned about germs or contamination. Overall, I would not seek this place out again. We probably won't be back unless someone in our friend or family group really wants to try it. If I did go back, I would probably only go for dinner and hope there are more hot options and tastier items. Who is this place for? I think it is geared more toward families and groups. It could be a good option if you have picky eaters or if everyone wants something different.

We had a later lunch and by the time we left, there was still a long line to get in. It has a nice variety of dishes to select from. One of our favorite parts of the buffet is the hibachi area - my husband, our older son and I all had our own selection of ingredients stir fried for noodle dishes. Let's start with the obvious: it's a buffet. We're getting our own plates, our own refills, doing the whole "DIY dining" thing. Fine. But for that price, you'd expect at least decent food. Instead, it was bland, forgettable, and sitting somewhere between lukewarm and questionable. Now the part that really sealed it: as we were literally getting up to leave, an employee approached us and demanded a tip. Not suggested. Not politely mentioned. Demanded. Then another staff member came over, pointed at the receipt, and told me I needed to tip. I'm actually a generous tipper, happily so, when it's earned. But being confronted like that? That's not service, that's pressure with a side of audacity. I even tried to clarify, thinking maybe gratuity wasn't included and I misunderstood. I was told, "No, service is completely separate." Okay... then maybe make that crystal clear somewhere? A sign, a note, literally anything. I would have gladly run to my car to grab cash and come back if it had been handled respectfully. But after being cornered and told I had to tip? Absolutely not. If your business model relies on tipping, act like it. Don't ambush customers on their way out like they're skipping out on a bill. Between the overpriced, underwhelming food and the aggressive tipping situation, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while.
