This place at first glance looks like the airport Chinese food place. It is far from that, it's one of the best places in the area. Don't let the grab and go decor fool you. The food is terrible. The fried rice was awful. There were no vegetables or egg and it was bright yellow. It tasted burnt. My guess is the bottom of the rice pot burned and they tried to salvage it. Decent Chinese food with reasonable prices. I can't give them 5 stars bc every time I've been here, I've been unsatisfied with their service. When their phones are busy they ignore the customers at the counter. They really need to have two people at the counter to help the people who hadn't called their order in. My family and I almost left the other day after waiting for two phone calls to finish. One of them rang after we arrived; the person at the counter ignored us to take the call, even after he saw us waiting for him to finish the call he was on when we came in. There are too many other good restaurants in Wake Forest that this will not be the first one I think of if I want take out. We stopped in to Panda King for a quick bite after getting a haircut next door. I was not really in the mood for Chinese food at the time, but my daughter insisted. I'm glad she did... Every dish we has was so unbelievably tasty! The Miso Soup had a depth of flavor that was just scrumptious. The fried dumplings had more of a wonton noodle than the normally over-thick pastry and was really delicious. We also enjoyed a Chow Mai Fun that included lots of fresh cabbage and carrots... what a delight! Excellent fresh food and very nice service. The dining room is bright and clean. The story: On the hunt for some good Chinese food after church one day, we looked up (on Yelp, of course) Chinese in the area and found one nearby in Wake Forest (Heritage area). The area: There is plenty of parking (part of a small plaza). The food: My boo and I shared a hot and sour soup first. There's is loaded with mushrooms and chicken - they don't skimp! It was not too spicy, and not too sour. I added a few tablespoons of soy sauce to kick it up a notch (because I thought it was a tad bland). But it was good after that. I got my favorite: General Tso's Chicken. I felt like this was going to be a good experience when I saw one the ladies take the fresh chicken, throw it in batter and then put it in the fryer. Fresh! When it was all done, I got a plate of (very) hot food. The sauce was the right amount of sweet and a little bit of heat. I enjoyed it muchly. I knew the GTC was going to be too hot, so I took a bite of the chicken fried rice first. It was great CFR! It actually had this grilled flavor to the rice that really set it apart. I am giving this place 2 stars for a few reasons. I ordered sweet and sour chicken. The meal had good flavor and the chicken was white meat. It was crispy, which is good, but unfortunately a bit dry. The rice was dry as well. The sour sauce was really concentrated. I know sour sauce is a thick sauce... but this sauce didn't even drip off the chicken when I dunked it. Also, they were just rated 90 in sanitation a month ago, which isn't good. I didn't know that when I ordered or I would have passed. My fault because the ratings are listed right here on Yelp. Argumentative "Tiger" lady for phone orders. I asked for vegetable fried rice with curry sauce and tofu and was amazed at the argument I got. I have ordered it before, but with this lady I got questions like... Are you sure you ordered it here before? When did you last order it? I responded to her: "Can you make it for me, please?" And, she just hammered with the same questions. Every time I ask for anything in the slightest bit different, I get an argument. So, I cancelled my order and went to another Chinese restaurant nearby. I ordered the same thing and they didn't give me the slightest problem. I've ordered this particular special order at at least 3 other Chinese restaurants. They all have been willing to do it without questions (other than how spicy would I like it)! Restaurants are in the business of providing service, not arguments. I would have respected as statement like, "we no longer do special orders." But, that's not what happened. Many of my friends have said that this particular lady is abusive to her customers. Some have vowed to never go back, regardless as to whether the food is good or not. I live in Louisburg and have no problem in driving to get there food. First experience was amazing, I'm just going to start by saying I'm in a teacher budget. Went to get some food for my husband and I. Had not the exact amount in cash and only had $2.00 in my debit. I tried to take out 1 of the items that was the dumplings and she said just give me what u have. Since then I have order from them 2 more times. Prices are very fair and wait times are reasonable no matter how busy they seem to get. We have ordered from Panda King several times as it is near our home. Service is always fast, the kitchen is wide open and very clean and the dining room is better than average for a take-out place. We always call in our orders of General Tso's chicken, crab Rangoon, low mein, fried rice, and eggrolls and have found the food to be consistent. Well let me say we used to love this place but the last few visits our food hasn't been the same. Tonight was the final straw, HAIR in my tofu with vegetables. I contacted them right away and explained the situation, I told them that I would not return this evening as it takes 30 minutes with the bridge closure and could they refund that item over the phone (paid with cc). She said she didn't know how to do it and no one else there did. I asked her to contact the cc machine company so they could give her the steps (20 years in retail I knew this was possible). I ordered from them for the first time on Christmas Eve. They have on the Slim menu that they offer brown rice upon request. I order the Pepper Steak w. Onion. I think there was four small pieces of green pepper the rest was all the steak and onion. I asked if I could get brown rice instead of the white they told me they don't have it and offered me yellow rice instead. They yellow rice was not more than I expected. No taste and very pastie. I told her it's on your menu nothing. If you don't have brown rice take it off your menu! I ordered a pork egg roll which I threw out. No shredded pork in it which there should be. Instead it was like a ground up paste of something. Gross!! Could not eat it and threw it out! I also ordered wonton soup which I did eat with no problems. I paid $13.25 for Pepper steak that was a rip off. I paid $1.50 for an egg roll that was REALLY GROSS! Not going back. I'm not fussy but, maybe they are cutting back but, no excuse for poor quality food. I'm sure there are other place they can find to cut back.. Me personally I will not go back there again. Panda King is THE best Chinese take-out restaurant in Wake Forest NC! They have a huge selection and I have never been disappointed. The food is always freshly prepared, yet quickly done, just the right spice/seasonings and the service is extremely friendly.
