What has happened to good Chinese style food? I ordered chicken fried rice , beef chow fun and general Tso's chicken. The rice was dry, the chicken was rubbery and overall tasteless. The general Tso chicken was so off. The meat itself was also dry to the point of being overcooked. As for the breading, it too was just plain bad. There was no balance to the flavors. Some pieces were bland while others were spicy! The final dish, the beef chow fun was the only dish that was okay, but again no balance. And to think some people gave this place 5 stars! read more

Another dreadful suburban restaurant. All the food I've gotten as take out here has been either made from the cheapest food service ( hospital & school) grade ingredients, ill prepared or literally rotten. I've wasted my money here a few times as several dishes went straight in the trash. Beware. There's an Asian restaurant in Old Greenwich /Riverside across from Mavis Tire that is way better and deserving of your biz. It's small & in a mini strip mall but it's good. read more

This spot might hold Greenwich's best Chinese food period. Along with their Chinese staples, Panda's Pan-Asian menu is also filled with Sambal dishes, Sushi, Eggplant plates, Thai coconut curry items, etc. When I worked in the area, Panda Pavilion was THE spot I'd get my Chinese groove on for lunch. I got hubs on it- and even on a Friday or Saturday night, we didn't mind the short drive from home to Greenwich just for their Chinese food- and don't mind it now. Located on Putnam Ave., Panda's parking is big as well as its modernish dining room. Ladies are always helpful and friendly. Don't skip on Panda's affordable lunch specials because for their $10 menu, selections are decent with your choice of white, brown or veggie fried rice, egg drop or miso soup and your main dish. The chopsticks were top notch. The napkins did their job and were able to wipe off any excess food left on my face. The ice was very cold. Straws were made of premium plastic and made drinking a diet Coke easy. Really enjoyed the table cloth used for the table. Oh and the food.....horrible. read more

My family ordered from Panda Pavilion for the first time tonight. The order was accurate and got here in 20 minutes. Unfortunately the food was disgusting. The General Tso's chicken was dry as was the low mein. Egg rolls were clearly frozen and the moo shu pork was raw (see attached picture). "American-Chinese" restaurant, very consistent taste and quality. Fresh ingredients. Will accommodate preferences (for example, less oil, more veggies, more or less spicy). Have been a customer for about 10 years ordering at least once a week. My go-to takeout place. Do not order if you expect authentic high-end Chinese cuisine but this is the place for after you've finished a 14 hour workday or came back from a long work trip or just to lazy to cook. The food was extremely good. The complaint relates to the packing of the take-out order. Three out of our five entrees were there. Two were not. I called and after vigorous questioning I texted a copy of the order as packed. Finally they agreed to prepare for my pickup a General Tso's Chicken and Ginger Duck. I picked it up. They did offer 10% off on the next meal. That is small recompense for a disrupted Christmas dinner of Chinese food. I was doing the freeway boogie rather than enjoying a meal with my family. What to say... This is your standard, no frills, pan asian fast food restaurant. Fast food, as in, if you order take out it usually always takes 15min regardless of what you order and how much. I know this is especially popular place on the Christian holiday days, but take out is usually doable even at the busiest time. The sushi is hit or miss. Be warned, I have definitely gotten mild food poisoning from here. I take that as a reasonable risk when ordering sushi from a place like this. Their lunch menu is priced well and usually pretty good. The star of the show is the hot and sour soup. Not hot, but black pepper seasoned without too much irregularity. My kids like the chicken noodle soup, but the yellow neon color is a turn off. In a pinch, this place is ok. The price is right and it is quick. Service is ok and cleanliness is unrefined. The waitresses are nice and the sushi guy is reasonable food. I don't have much faith in consistency of freshness. However, as long as you know the risk, the reward can be almost worth it. read more

I literally live up the street and usually walk over to pick up the order. Been doing this for years. I just picked up a very expensive (over priced) order. Two wonton soups, Chicken and Singapore Mei Fun....Was disgusting, low grade, dog food. I actually threw the food in the garbage. I get that in this economy, its tough to get fresh ingredients but that is no excuse to sell lousy food at premium prices. It is unethical! I will never order food from Panda again! read more

Quite possibly the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Poorly prepared, old,low quality ingredients (restaurant depot I suspect) Some items are oddly dry when it's traditionally a saucy dish or pasty when crispy is the norm. Who are the cooks a bunch of moonlighting tow stuck drivers? Just bad, the fried rice is old white rice doused with soy sauce then tossed with frozen shrimp & peas n carrots ( like school lunch peas n carrots) just mediocre at best. Have to agree with the new reviews. We've been going to Panda for over 20 years and the new owners broke what didn't need fixing. Still love the staff, who are definitely uncomfortable. I had to ask for a knife to cut up the huge broccoli. When I asked for the manager, a young woman came over. I asked her if she could easily eat it, she said yes. Hello??? First time here. The place is cute inside and the staff are very friendly. I ordered some miso soup which was easily the best I've had. I asked for green tea which was hot & wonderful and I was not charged for it which is nice. I ordered a spicy yellowtail roll & a shrimp & avocado roll. This is where things went down hill. The fish was fresh enough but when a place can't serve simple rolls properly, you probably don't bother with more complex ones. Also bc the place seems much more Chinese food focussed, I opted not to get any sashimi. The spicy roll was chopped up yellowtail with a squirt of spicy sauce. No scallions, no tobiko, not even mixed up and six small pieces for $6.50. Worse for 7.95, I was served 6 pieces of shrimp avocado roll which could not have even contained one small shrimp & hardly any avocado? Worst of all. The rice! The rice was not properly seasoned, it was too cold & the rolls were falling apart. If I wanted grocery store sushi for 1/4 the price, I would have gone to a grocery store. I realize I was there at 3 when the staff eat but come on sushi man, you could not have been proud of that. I haven't been here in person so that's why its getting only 3 stars this time around.... I got delivery of sushi and the sushi was pretty fresh and the prices were decent.... I got a Philly Roll, a Spicy Salmon Roll, a Spider Roll (which for some reason I wasn't a fan of) and a Dallas roll which had tuna and shrimp in it.... quite delish! If you're looking for good sushi at a great price (in Greenwich, no less!), this is the place for you. I get sushi takeout there at least twice a month, because at their prices I can afford to, and their sushi & sashimi are always delicious & fresh, and prepared quickly. I'm less familiar with their Chinese, but the few things I've tried have been fine - again, great value for the money rather than stellar food. But prepared quickly and always waiting for me when I get there. The rare times I've eaten there the service has been friendly but not particularly quick. read more

We've been coming to Panda for years and keep coming back. The food is very good, especially the Sichuan dishes. The sushi chef also prepares very fresh and tasty rolls and sashimi at a very reasonable price. I also like the staff here. I know them all and they are professional and courteous. Ordered won ton soup and beef chow fun. The won tons in the soup arrived disintegrated with shreds of won ton and meat stuffing floating in the broth. We ordered delivery for dinner. It came in the standard 45 min even that we are alil from from there. The food was great. We ordered the pork fried rice which was perfectly done with egg which you don't see anymore. The shredded beef and the chicken chow mein was delicious. We are longtime Greenwich residents and Panda Pavilion was a reliable family staple. We were disappointed a few years back when they lost the lease at their beautiful restaurant at the old Shop n Stop shopping center and re-emerged in an old fast food building on the Post Road, but at least the take-out food was still delicious. But a few months ago a new voice answered the phone for our take out order and we realized the restaurant had changed hands. To put it mildly, the food is now tasteless, dry, and generally awful. It's hard to mess up an old standby like sesame chicken but these new folks have managed it. I am not overly fussy about Chinese food, and I like what I am served in most restaurants, but this order was awful. Whether they are cutting corners due to lack of business or using microwaved frozen food, I have no idea. But I can tell you that I won't be surprised when the "For Rent" sign shows up at this location. You simply cannot survive serving sub-par food in Greenwich. So sorry to see a good restaurant decline so badly. read more

They used to be great. They're trying to be "different" by changing traditional dishes to be unique... and pretty terrible. For example, I ordered chicken with cashews. Normally this is made with stir fried chicken slices. They changed the recipe to deep fried small bits of chicken resulting in an extremely oily dish. Absolutely devastated. It's the end of an era for western Greenwich. My beloved Panda is now under new ownership. The traditional Chinese comfort food flavor a are no where to be found. I hate to have to agree with the other yelpers, this restaurant is horrible now. My husband and I ordered take out on Saturday and I'm still sick from the food. We ordered shrimp pad Thai as soon as I opened the container it smelled horrible. I couldn't eat it, it went straight to the Trash can!! I have never seen bright pink pad Thai. We also ordered mooshu pork and again we didn't eat it, looked like soup and the pork had a weird chewy texture to it. We paid 50$ for a meal that went straight in the trash. The pork fried rice was decent and the dumplings were also good but everything else was disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

THE SZECHUAN PEPPERCORN IS A LIE. I was pleasantly surprised to see Szechuan peppercorns make an appearance on the menu here so I ordered the chicken with Szechuan peppercorn sauce for lunch. However is it is completely lacking in that telltale Szechuan peppercorn zing. By lacking, I mean there isn't any at all. For folks who have never tried the peppercorns (which were in fact illegal to import until a few years ago) they have a very, very distinct feel and flavor. It's does something to either your taste buds or your tongue nerves which creates a tingle, not unlike licking a 9V battery. Trust me, it's more pleasant than it sounds. The problem is here, is that it's called szechuan peppercorn sauce, and it doesn't contain any. The service was decent. My dish was otherwise flavorful but overly oily. I don't really recommend this place unless you really need some Chinese food or some sushi and you are in the neighborhood. read more
