THE SZECHUAN PEPPERCORN IS A LIE. I was pleasantly surprised to see Szechuan peppercorns make an appearance on the menu here so I ordered the chicken with Szechuan peppercorn sauce for lunch. However is it is completely lacking in that telltale Szechuan peppercorn zing. By lacking, I mean there isn't any at all. For folks who have never tried the peppercorns (which were in fact illegal to import until a few years ago) they have a very, very distinct feel and flavor. It's does something to either your taste buds or your tongue nerves which creates a tingle, not unlike licking a 9V battery. Trust me, it's more pleasant than it sounds. The problem is here, is that it's called szechuan peppercorn sauce, and it doesn't contain any. The service was decent. My dish was otherwise flavorful but overly oily. I don't really recommend this place unless you really need some Chinese food or some sushi and you are in the neighborhood. read more

I've been eating here for a while and there usually isn't a problem. However a week or two ago I got a delivery for lunch. I ordered the Cold Noodles with Sesame Sauce. Mind you I have it there several times and liked it. This time though, just opening the bag I could smell that something had gone bad. The smell was so bad I just threw it out and went about my day. I couldn't even try it. Since they had been good in the past, I figured it was just an off day and tried them again about a week later. Sadly there was very little improvement. The smell was better, but the taste was bad. Again, I couldn't finish it and threw it out. What I did eat, well lets just say It didn't agree with me. Just celebrated my birthday there and the food was great and the staff quite nice! The pineapple dessert was delightful, it's an actual pineapple with frozen sorbet in it with whipped cream and cherries plus they wrote "Happy Birthday" in chocolate! Yum! We have been there several times and have enjoyed it every time. We definitely recommend the Shrimp with Pineapple and Mayonnaise (we weren't sure how that would taste) but we got it to share for the table and there wasn't a bite left. :-) We often get the Beef with Broccoli, Sesame noodles, Crispy Shrimp & Chicken with Honey and Walnuts. We really like the place, I get the sushi which is always very tasty and reasonably priced. It's great that they also have a wide range of Asian entrees for people who don't want sushi. Great standard Chinese food. Very friendly staff and owner always make us and our little son feel welcome. Fast delivery and no attitude. They have an outdoor patio that welcomes our Pug with open arms for family outdoor dining. We go to many Chinese places in lower Fairfield County and this is one of our favorites. read more

Wow, What happened to this place? I had been coming here for at least 20 years. They had the best Sesame Chicken I have ever tasted. The Lo Mein and Wonton soup were also very good. I went here a month ago and got the same order I usually get and it was AWFUL. The sesame chicken was huge pieces of chicken, breaded with a little sauce on it and hardly any vegetables for over $15. The Wonton soup like another poster wrote has changed from the big wontons to tiny ones which broke all up in the soup by the time i brought it home. I was extremely disappointed with this place and thought that maybe the head chef was sick but apparently from what i'm reading it is under new ownership. Do not go here if you want a decent meal. Unless something changes, this place is not worth it anymore. read more

USED TO BE BEST CHINESE IN TOWN. My family and I have decided to find a new place to go, after almost 25 yrs of dining at Panda. It is under new ownership and is nothing like it was! The oil they used for the dumplings and egg rolls tastes rancid (& we tried it on two occasions just to make sure!), the prices are higher, the recipes are changed (adding copious amounts of the cheapest of vegetables to our chicken dishes to fill in space), no more fortune cookies!!! Vicky and Jackie placed order the other day (Sunday -11-2013) Over the phone specified no spice on General tso's chicken ! when picked up order double checked with spice they said no spice as soon as i opened my chicken huge spicy peppers!!!!!!!!!!! I called spoke to Manger Danny "he said i give you credit for general Tso's ! very upset because i have no dinner and they would not give me full order credit for my inconvenience! so I asked him if would like to loose my business rather than credit me he said He could only credit me general tso's ! All of these reviews have to be fake! My fiancé and I decided to try it today, we both ordered the lunch special. I ordered the general tso's chicken and she ordered the sesame chicken and they were both terrible! The sauces they used are discusting, the pork fried rice was old, you could tell be the pork was dry and breaking apart, and the egg was slimey. We left because it wasn't even eatable. The wonton soup was ok but that's pretty hard to mess up. read more

Of all the Chinese restaurants in the area, we think this is the best (and they have good sushi too). The staff is very friendly, the service is excellent, and the food is terrific. i ordered "Chicken Chow Mein" from them, when i got my order it was a chicken stir fry veggie with a side of rice. I called them up and told them they deliver the wrong order to me, instead of being honest and tell me they made a mistake on my order, the lady told me "Chow Mein" is not fry noodle, i'm chinese and Chow Mein translates to fry noodle, on their menu, it's under "noodle". They're just lied to my face, i would have been okay if they admit it was a mistake instead of lying. read more

Normally have a pleasant experience, but last night was unreal. Ordered delivery, which is usually quick. My last couple of orders have taken longer than normal. My wife gets the order, pays cash, but didn't have our normal 20% tip. No biggie right. Oh no, the delivery person complained, stating that normal tip amount is between 30% and 40%. Really dude. She proceeded to call Panda and speak to the supervisor, this guy was worse than the delivery person. No remorse or apology. One thing our area doesn't lack is good Chinese/Asian restaurants. Great food! I went there with my friend to have dinner yesterday. The restaurant was cozy and the staff were very friendly. We ordered a General Tso's Chicken and a Sweet Heart Roll, also some sashimi from the sushi bar. The sushi was nice and fresh and the chicken was delicious! We will definitely come back! read more

I see some bad reviews here. Problem with sites like Yelp is you usually get whiners who may have had a one-time bad experience; meanwhile, many others who've had good experiences don't post. Well, I am here to sing the praises of Panda, and I eat here all the time. Yes, during the ownership changeover it them time to find their footing - the new menu, for example, was confusing - and every once in a while I get a dish I don't care for (the shrimp with pineapple and mayo was weak) but OVERALL the food is fresh, well-prepared to your specifications (i.e., spice level), and the sushi never disappoints. I ate at Panda Pavilion today and I will never return. The food was not good, I had the General Tso. It was fried too hard and made me sick. I should have known by the cabbage and radish garnish that was used. The shredded raw cabbage took up half the plate and was actually brown, then they place a bright yellow radish carved into a flower in the center. This I did not eat, but I should have followed my instinct and not eaten the entire dish, except I was starving and didn't have time to wait. I inquired from the manager regarding the old, brown looking cabbage and was told that they typically used this old brown cabbage because it was hidden by the radish. This is my second time swearing to never return to this restaurant. The first time I stopped in for large chicken fried rice, they gave me 1 soy sauce and challenged me when I requested a few more. I was stunned; I knew it was a recession but give me a break. I stayed away for a year or so, and went back because of the convenience of the location. I should have driven to E. Putnam Avenue to Asiana, which I will definitely do in the future. read more

I work in food service so I have a very high stand for food service, the service was excellent and so was the food. I highly recommend this place. Working at Belle Haven and Barcelona collectively for over 5 years has left me with a very high standard of service, now I do see negative reviews and perhaps I'm treated special by these people due to the fact that they know eat sleep and breathe in the hospitality Industry almost every waking moment, but I cannot even imagine how one can critique the service, these people are like sharks ready to grab or accomodate me in any way shape or form on the drop of a dime. Every dish was perfect, and as far as them messing up "sweet and sour chicken" Im pretty sure that's not accurate, as the shanghai noodles are done perfect And native to the cuisine I have in china when away on business. This place is amazing give it a try I have a feeling you won't be disappointed. Like I said if the service is a let down then clearly I'm treated with extra care and attention or you just don't know what appropriated service is, and I do because I am food service and embody this every minute second hour, and these people rocked, take it from an expert...
