I decided to try this place out today and I was pleasantly surprised. I called to book a 90 minute at 6 pm and I arrived on time and was greeted by a polite and respectful manager. I requested a woman with strong hands and the manager placed me with Lina. The massage started lighter than I expected but once she got warmed up Lina was exceptional. She understands the body and was adept at using her elbows, fists and fingertips strongly without it being painful or uncomfortable. She checked in with me about the pressure throughout the massage and was otherwise quiet and intentional. I appreciated her calm and knowledgeable energy. I specifically asked for more time on the face and scalp, which she accommodated me without any further explanation. The bed and oil were warm and the room, while minimally decorated was clean and comfortable. They allowed me to play my own meditation music which made the experience more relaxing for me. After the massage I paid and there was no pressure to tip, but I was happy to do so as I was more than happy with the service. I was served water and offered tea as well. My masseuse used just the right amount of pressure throughout and got out all my knots. I felt so relaxed and almost fell asleep on the table hahaha. The restrooms even have very high quality paper, as you get older these things matter! lol. I received the 90 minute cupping massage. It was wonderful and she worked on the areas I told her hurt the most. I suffer from a lot of chronic pain and structural issues with my spine and joins. I didn't have high expectations but when I left I felt refreshed and pain had been reduced a lot. I have continued to enjoy pain relief and have been planning when I can return. There were little critiques I could have totally bypassed and overlooked since they were minor but the end of the experience has compelled me to leave a review which I hardly ever do. So I booked online for 1 hour Swedish massage for $85 .... I'll start with the minor complaints then reveal why I choose to leave this lengthy review. I had to pay a $10 fee online to book for the reservation so I only pay $75 once done. I was pleasantly surprised to see that on Fridays they had $10 off which made my massage only $75 but I already paid $10 online so it seemed like a scam saying I was getting a $10 discount when I already paid that upfront . Whatever .... I just paid what it originally which was $85 so not a big deal . I emphasized to the masseuse that I would like LIGHT pressure from the beginning . She did none of that, she honestly hurt my shoulders and legs. I had to ask her to do light pressure again cause it hurt. This is suppose to be a relaxing Swedish massage NOT a deep tissue. They definitely don't tailor to your needs here. You get what you pay for I guess. More than half way through the massage, my face was hurting. The face pillow is not comfortable at all. I've never had this happen and I've had a lot of massages so this was off putting. They also give you a thin sheet which is fine but I was cold during my whole massage. The last place turned on a small heater. She didn't even ask or offer it out it on which they did have under my table. Massage was OK and I left feeling meh. Could have been worse. Anyways, these are things I could have overlooked. However, upon checking out, the front desk guy which was either the owner or manager, lets me pay then asks me cash or card for tip and payment. I told him $10 for tip and he looks at me and says "How about $15??!!!" The AUDACITY. She got what she deserved not a dollar more. I was so taken aback that he asked me to tip more. I was so hopeful about this place since I live close by. I loved the fact you can book your appointment online. I chose an hour long massage. My masseuse Jenny was ok but because her English was not good she didn't understand when I would request for her to work on the parts of my body that needed it. I came in hoping to feel relaxed but the constant stopping, she would also leave the room to get this or that for the massage. I don't normally don't mind, but when you end the massage earlier than the supposed ending time I was so frustrated. The owner has the gall to tell me to increase my tip because the massage was good. First of all, did he bother asking me if I was happy with the massage? He got annoyed at me and said you're supposed to tip 20%. No I don't have to do that, a tip is commensurate with how good the service is. Safe to say I won't be coming back. I've been having neck and shoulder issues that my theragun has not been able to alleviate so I decided to check out this spot since it was close by and wow it did not disappoint! The owner was the one who greeted me and heard my concerns out and let my masseuse know where to focus on. I had a 60 min full body massage and my masseuse was Wendy. She was SO great, considerate, and I felt taken care of. She asked if the pressure was okay and adjusted when I asked for more pressure. She even asked me if my neck still hurt and went back to focus more on where my neck was tight and alleviated the stubborn knot I couldn't get out for weeks!! The facilities itself were also super clean, quiet (not sound proof but I'm not super sensitive about noise so I don't mind), and calm. I was able to truly relax and focus on the massage. I believe most of the inside decor is from the old massage place but it's all clean and nice - just as the photos the owners uploaded to Yelp. Since the Art of Reflexology closed in Stonestown and I've had mixed results visiting some other establishments, I was glad that my first experience here was positive. It's similar in massage techniques - which are effective for my tight muscles - just in a much nicer environment; quite a step up from cubical walls. I think their price is in-line with most others around when you take into consideration their location and the building. I had gone for the 60 minute full body as a test and I think I'd consider 90 minutes in the future. She lacked technique in her hands and overly used her elbows which dug into sore parts of her neck and back. She had to ask her twice to ease up. Then both masseuses left abruptly for several mins without any communication leaving us confused. They returned and again without communicating started with hot stones which were a bit jarring. I went for cupping specifically. I went last month and I had a great masseuse. Even then some strange things were she kept leaving the room every 20 minutes for a while and coming back. Regardless her pressure was really good, she understood what I wanted, and her hot stones and cupping I felt relief for the first time in a while. I called the owner to ask what her name was this month which I know was a month later, but I thought he would know the schedules for the days that the person worked because I had that on file from when I paid with my credit card and he just said he didn't know so I booked with somebody else. I booked with yoo yoo and she kept touching me as not part of the massage (tapping my butt when I'd signal to not touch there, touching my shoulders to say hello) etc. And then she didn't massage well at all. She would just go between super light pressure and super hard pressure and then every time I would ask something her answer was "sorry I don't speak English". I talked to the owner at the end bc I ended the session after 20 minutes and he said I may have gotten my massage from Jenny. When I asked if I could see her saying I got a massage from an older lady last time and I'd like to rebook he said they won't show their faces which is fair but also I'm a young woman and I've been there before so I don't know how I would book with the same person if I don't even know what they look like. He ended up charging me $63 while the usual massage with cupping is 130 for only 20 minutes when the usual massage is an hour and 20 minutes. So definitely a rip off and suspicious with the way he was running things. read more
