I've been a loyal customer here for a few years and have genuinely loved this place, but I'm really disappointed in the recent changes. Over time they've been quietly chipping away at the value, first lumping Swedish and deep tissue massages into the same price point, effectively raising prices for Swedish clients without adding anything new. Now they've cut massage times across the board while raising prices again. Going from 90 to 80 minutes might not sound like much but you really feel it on the table. 90 minutes was enough time for a thorough full-body massage and now it just feels rushed. And cutting the 60 minute massage down to 50 is almost pointless, that's barely enough time to get through the basics. If they had just raised prices a bit I could have lived with that, but cutting the actual time changes the experience in a way you can't make up for. It feels like the people making these decisions have lost sight of why customers actually come here. You're paying more for less, which feels like a disrespectful move toward customers who have been coming here consistently. I've been here a handful of times now. I am now wondering if the therapist are certified. Sometimes I've noticed my massages have been choppy and the sheet draping has been sloppy and uneven. The rooms are tiny so if you're a tall person, it may be a bit claustrophobic. There are only hooks to place your belongings, so bring less. I've also never had someone talk almost the entire time I've been massaged. When I get a massage, I want to relax and rest my body, including my ears. Long overdue review. I had been coming to Mysa for the last 3 years for facials. Amy is the best! She has been with me through my engagement, my wedding and now pregnancy. She is always calm, patient, thoughtful and very thorough with her facials. I always feel relaxed and rejuvenated after seeing her. So why the 3 stars? It's for the upper management. Amy is def a 5 star review and management would be a 0. Thoughout my time coming here I have seen upper management training (more like berating) their front desk staff. The first time about a year ago, they put the receptionist down when she was checking me out to leave. I understand there's a learning curve, but no need to talk down to your staff especially in front of a customer. Another time about two years ago, I was around 10min late to my appt due to a Mini delay in the tunnel. Yes, my fault and I understand it will cut into my apt time. I called them about 15min before my appt and let them know I was running late. Tell me why they called me non-stop once appt time came around asking where I was? First call, okay maybe the message didn't get through. But the times after that? Unnecessary. The last straw was my most recent appointment where I had booked a massage and facial. I had the massage first and the facial after. In the middle of my facial I was getting non-stop phone calls. I didn't answer since I was in the middle of a service and phone was nowhere near me, but the thought of an emergency definitely went through me head. It was Mysa management calling saying I didn't pay for my massage! They left multiple voicemails and were calling non-stop. Once I finished my second service and checked out, there was no apology. No sorry for the misunderstanding etc. Then later on in the day, I get a text message from the manager saying I didn't pay properly and that they were going to charge additional $$ to the card on file. I told them to check their receipts because I 100% paid for all the services I recieved. Again, they didn't admit fault but blamed it on new staff saying they rung me up incorrectly. I listed out all my services for them, the price it was supposed to be and what I paid. It all lined up. They apologized, but it didn't feel genuine. In conclusion - Amy you're the best! The massage itself, wasn't good. I've received probably 4-6 massages a year since I was 16. And I've received about 12 prenatal massages. She seemed very inexperienced in both things that would be considered part of a regular massage and what would be specific to a prenatal. There was also an overall lack of professionalism on two instances -- one, I was extremely overexposed for portions of the massage, she didn't know how to place the sheets to ensure that my [privates weren't] showing. And second, the most egregious, began within 5 minutes of my massage. She began taking tiny breaks to snack on food while giving me a massage. At one point, she dropped crumbs on my back and didn't realize it until she started massaging again and the oil had an exfoliating texture. She then wiped me down with a tissue She continued to eat for the first 20 or so minutes of my massage, until I flipped towards the table where she was keeping her snacks. I've never considered leaving a massage halfway or looked forward to it ending -- until today. My goal is that this feedback helps her improve for other customers in the future. Came here for a long overdue massage & left feeling extra relaxed! I've been here a few times before, first introduced by one of my friends. Located at West Portal, this quite little day spa could be easy to miss as it blends in so well with the other buildings. Parking is fairly easy. We had appointments booked for 6:45pm and found parking right in the front. My boyfriend and I booked Swedish massages with Jenny & James. The rooms are spacious enough to walk around the massage table. The massage table is also heated so your body immediately starts to feel more relaxed. Jenny really paid attention to all of my problem areas! She must've really felt my knots because she was going in!!! I asked that my face and head be excluded as I didn't want any oils in those areas and she placed a towel to cover it. Jenny checked in to ask if everything was going well and that was the only time we really talked which I appreciated. Personally when I get massages, I prefer not to have too much chatter so that I can truly relax. I can't speak to James' abilities since I didn't personally experience it but my boyfriend definitely felt more relaxed afterwards! I recently went to Mysa day Spa for a 90 "customized" massage. Christine was my massage therapist and it was anything but customized. This was easily one of the worst massages I've ever had in my life, and I've had hundreds. Long story short, this was 90 minutes of torture. After asking my masseuse, Christine, more than a couple times to please lighten up on the pressure, she continued so hard that I was wincing in pain and very uncomfortable the entire massage. She asked me if I was OK only once and I told her she needed to go lighter, she did not. I understand that each massage therapist has their own modality, but isn't it important for the customer to feel comfortable, relaxed, and have the therapist adjust to the persons body and their muscles? When you're pushing back or fighting against the therapist's pressure, it does your body far more harm than good . To make matters worse Mysa Spa texted me the next day to ask how everything went. I let them know my honest opinion and told them I would prefer to let them know rather than leave a bad Yelp review. It's been over a week and I never heard back from them, so obviously they could care less. I would not recommend this business for massage therapy . read more

Service: I had Amy as my specialist for a hydrafacial and my mom had Jane for her signature treatment. Both technicians are highly skilled and my mom even fell asleep as it was so soothing and relaxing.. lol Speaking from my own experience - I haven't had facial done for years due to pandemic and today's hydrafacial cleaned all my blackheads, clogs in pores etc. and my skin turned out to be so soft, clean and hydrated after even one treatment! It feels so good to have my good skin back again. Environment: I'm big on cleanness and quiet environment for spa, and this spa hits both spots. Staff are professional, shared good skin knowledge but not too talkative to leave me a quiet time to relax. Overall, highly recommended! I quite like this place as a quick massage or facial. it's a little misleading to call it a day spa, as it's more like a beauty salon. They offer you services, but not a sauna, pool, steam room, etc that are more assoicated with a "day spa," That being said, their staff are quick and on point. I do think it depends on who you get and your communication with the staff. I like deep tissue massages that are considered painful for most. If you're not applying pressure, I assume your intent is to tickle me. I got Christine, who is very good at the pressure. She found knots and tightness all over (hooray for working a mostly desk job!) and really attacked my legs. Like I didn't realize how tight those muscles were until she went at it. My friend got Christine after me and she felt it was way too strong. Ergo...different for different folks. A few of my friends also went on the same day, and there was some mixed reviews. Some folks didn't get the right pressure on their massages and others felt like it was too much pressure. It seems like the big thing was to communicate with your person. Since it was my first time coming here, I selected an random masseuse but was secretly hoping for Christine, as I read so many glowing reviews for her. I was indeed scheduled with Christine, which made me feel even more confident about my appointment. I scheduled the appointment last minute, and was surprised to see that there were so many next day appointments available. I originally booked the Swedish massage, but after filling out the new client form and describing my pain and discomfort, christine recommended upgrading to the deep tissue massage. I was a bit hesitant, given that my last deep tissue massage left me with severe pain (over at Burke Williams lol). Christine assured me this would be the best option, and honestly, I'm so glad I said yes. I came in with severe neck, shoulder blade, and lower back pain, and Christine successfully removed the majority of the knots and tension I had. I slept so well after and could actually rotate my neck after my appointment. It also felt like the massage therapist had no idea what they were doing. The way the did the sheets was sloppy. They had me lay on my back for a long time and I felt like I was going to throw up. I had to turn over and they didn't understand me because they spoke limited English. This made it hard for me to communicate my needs at all. Going somewhere and getting a prenatal massage you expect the therapist to know what they are doing so you feel comfortable and relaxed. This was the exact opposite of how I felt. Christine at Mysa is fantastic! I had the myofascial release massage, and it was my first time getting this type of massage. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but what I got was amazing. I'll try my best to describe: it felt like she was slowly and purposefully warming up my muscles so that when she did the massage/stretches, I felt so much relief. She also explained to me how the different moves were effective, which I really appreciate. Being that I was in my third trimester, I was in desperate need of a Prenatal Massage. Luckily, I did a Google search of near by spas that provided prenatal massages; and I happened upon Mysa. James was the therapist who specialized in prenatal massages. Backstory, I was not getting good sleep at the time. Par for the course for my condition. By the end of my scheduled 90 min massage, I was almost sound asleep. Prior to the massage, I was stiff and uncomfortable carrying the baby. Thanks to James, I came out of the experience: relaxed, rejuvenated, and relieved. AMY = Waxing & Facials. Amy is a consummate professional. Going forward, she is my "go-to" technician for Brazilian Waxing. Why? Amy's technique is as close to painless as a Brazilian can be. Additionally, Amy is an artist when it comes to eyebrow waxing. After a session with Amy, I always receive compliments on how great my eyebrows look! I always look forward to my sessions with Amy. CHRISTINE = Myofascial Release. After giving birth, a mother's body is never the same. And even requires a special massage. I have already had Deep Tissue, Swedish, and other massages at Mysa. All great experiences. But after checking the menu of massage services available, the Lymphatic Drainage Treatment caught my eye. My OBGYN had informed me that I should look into lymphatic drainage. Mysa listed Lymphatic Drainage Treatment, as : "A form of a gentle massage that moves the lymph fluids within the lymphatic system to help get rid of waste and toxins within the bodily tissues." I immediately scheduled an appointment with Christine. Upon arrival and a quick consultation with Christine, her recommendation was the Integrated Myofascial Release Massage instead. I have only had facials so this review will only pertain to that particular service. Mysa Day Spa is conveniently located at West Portal which is accessible to multiple MUNI lines. If you're driving, it's far enough from the other stores that you will find ample parking spots. Once you arrive, you enter into a really serene waiting area. If this is your first time for a particular service or if it's been a while since you've had the service, they'll ask you to fill out an intake form. It typically takes maybe 10-15 minutes to complete. My face tends to be on the drier side so both times I've had facials that focus on dryness. I opted for the Signature Facial. Throughout the facial, it was a really relaxing experience and I didn't feel any irritation on my skin. There was a small product push when the facial was over but it wasn't too bad. The day after a facial expect a text from them asking if you are experiencing any side effects or irritation. I like that they check up on you. It's really great customer service. Unfortunate experience after a great facial with Amy. I had booked a Signature Deluxe Facial ($218). On arrival, my esthetician took a look at my face and said "you should do the hydra facial, it's good for dry skin." I thought she was just tailoring the facial to my skin and mentioning a specific product she'd use - no additional cost was mentioned, so I said "sure, sounds good." After the treatment, the front desk person rang me up for $308 - apparently the hydra facial is a distinct treatment that costs $90 more than the facial I had booked, but no one mentioned this at any point before or during the treatment. I talked with the manager, and at some point she said "so you agree that you agreed to the upgrade" and refused to alter the final bill to reflect what I had reserved beyond the 10% discount they offer all first-time customers that would have applied regardless. The payment experience made the entire visit feel the opposite of relaxing - just a classic sleazy upsell. The facial was great but I won't be back - my only guidance is to make sure you understand exactly what you are agreeing to in the treatment room and ask if there is an additional cost associated. read more

I have been going to Mysa Day Spa for more than a year now and it took me a hour to drive so that means something! I bought packages for facial and massage at the spa and I absolutely love it! They make customize plans for every single customer and they sell you products not to trick you but actually fits to your own skin type. For facial: I had acne all over my face before and no facial place can get rid of them for me for more than ten years, but Mysa made a plan for me combined with their products and helped me to get away most stubborn acne in about 6 months, so now I only have acne occasionally if I eat something they didn't approve lol For massage: I LOVE Jame's deep tissue massage therapy! I know a lot of people may not like his style because his pressure level is pretty high and can hurt a bit, but I love Chinese hard pressure style and they actually took away my back pain that NO other places can reach that level! I don't need to tell him which part exactly my back/neck/butt hurt, but he can def feel my pain and apply deep tissue on me that feels so good! I've been to at least 30+ massage places, but I don't know where to go if James retires... James is the best because he TREATS people instead of just touch you and earn quick money for one session, which is most massage places do without doubt. My skin has made strides since I started coming here 3 years ago! I usually get the acne facial and my skin has cleared up and has become less bumpy. I usually go to Amy and she has really helped my skin. She always takes her time every appointment to make sure my skin looks good. Her massages are always great and really help me de-stress. She's also recommended me a lot of skincare that keeps my skin well maintained. I don't go very frequently so the skincare is great!
