I bought my house in 2009, and from almost the day I moved in, I despised the windows. Casement…read more Ugh. Yeah, sure, they look nice, but on windy days, I had to close the windows out of fear they would turn into sails and get ripped from the frames. On rainy days, I was unable to leave a few windows slightly open in order to get some air movement (casement windows open from top to bottom, if you are unfamiliar with the term). When the windows were open, people could easily see the windows were open (hey, I live in Chicago, we worry about crime here in the big bad city). Worse, as the house settled, window after window became unusable. I finally made the decision to replace the casement windows with double hung, and after I spoke to some other firms -- including one that sent over the most "salesy," gimmick-laden salesperson I ever encountered, you've probably seen their TV ads (I had to ask him, repeatedly, to leave, and I needed an hour to get him to go, truly awful) -- I was delighted I made a call to Chicago Window Guys. The owner, Russ, was the salesperson who came to my house. Now we're talking...I like doing deals with the final decision maker. His approach was what I expected: He was on time and got straight to business. No salesy talk, no gimmicks, he simply asked a few questions, took some measurements, and made notes as I explained what I wanted and what windows were to be replaced. He explained a few options to me, answered my questions...we hammered out the price, and cut the deal right then and there. When I'm treated right, I'm a salesperson's dream. He got the deal, and I sent a check a few days later after we finalized the contract. He sent his measurement guy a few days later, he took detailed measurements, made a few more notes, and sent the order to be fulfilled. Now, this is part of the reason why CWG won the deal: they make their windows onsite, here in the Chicago area. They are not a reseller. They are not a distributor for someone else. They fabricate their own product. That cuts out the middleman, to use an overused cliche, which means they offer a superior product at less than what other resellers charge. Two months later, my windows were done, and after false start due to rain (not CWG's fault, obviously), they installed the entire order in one day. That's 7 windows upstairs, 10 windows downstairs, plus the sliding door in the master bedroom, and the sliding door and transom in the family room. One day. The crew was on time, got right to work, and did a fantastic job. They even managed to take down my blinds, then reinstalled them when the work was done. They didn't have to do that, but they did. The cleaned up their work, sealed the windows on the inside and outside...and left. Absolutely first class. I am 100% satisfied with the work and the final product. Russ's crew delivered a great product and provided great service. That salesy, gimmick-laden company, by the way, initially quoted three times what I paid CWG. If you want to be annoyed and ripped off, go with the guys on TV. If you want a quality product at a fair price, go with Chicago Window Guys.

He came to my townhouse to give me an estimate to replace five windows. He was in my house 20 minutes threw out a number to me and wasn't even going to write it down in a proper estimate. When I asked him if he would put it in writing, he scribbled it on his brochure. I went to his website to find out what I would actually be getting because his brochure didn't say it and there was no information that I could find that would tell me what I would be getting for the dollar amount he scribbled on his brochure. I later followed up with an email with additional questions and he did not respond. I honestly didn't expect him to but I wanted to see if he would. Way too concerned about reviews and not actually providing customer service. Very happy I did not hire him!!

I needed two compliant escape/rescue windows put into Chicago basement bedrooms to replace some older double-hung windows that in no way left a big enough opening for folks to get out. Despite some less-than-enthusiastic responses from other companies, Peter Pane's responded promptly to my job request on Yelp and Ron (who has 40yrs of windows experience!) scheduled to come onsite only a few days out for a review of my needs and to give a firmer quote. One of the window frames was too small for a legal-sized rescue window to just be swapped in, but when I explained my goal to meet code, Ron was able to think through some more difficult-to-install and less common options to put in a larger window (I ended up going with a casement window there and taking out existing framing). I also had concerns about the more common type of window suggested for the other room (he was trying to be price-conscious for me because it's a large one) - and he was concerned about longevity if I got something like a reverse hopper window because of how close to the weight limit that one would be. He was able to suggest a Tilt & Turn window instead, which is uncommon in the States but was exactly what that room needed! Both windows required a custom order and Peter Panes pushed the manufacturer to get the windows made as quickly as possible for me since I was planning for occupants soon. Both windows were done at the earliest point in their estimates (about 4wks) and they scheduled install ASAP. Jensen, Connor, and Ron showed up at my place last week with both windows in tow. We had originally thought some drywall work might be required to fit the expanded window into the first room, but these guys were all pros and were able to adjust the framing and finagle a change in the latch direction on the casement window to make it fit perfectly without having to cut any drywall! They made sure to keep some of the original framing as a template to make a new exterior that matched the arched brick lintel so the outside looks great, too. The second, larger window went in easily and they were meticulous with sealing the outside with foam and the inside with high-quality caulk along the edges. They left the space completely clean, were easy to work with, and were both respectful and non-patronizing (particularly if you are a woman hiring contractors in Chicago, you may unfortunately know how rare that can be!). Both windows look great and work just like I need them to be escape/rescue window code-compliant. The process was smooth from beginning to end, the team was efficient and cleaned up after themselves, and they brought a lot of knowledge to the table. I can definitely sleep at night knowing they helped me get just the right windows with a high quality install and at a fair price. If I ever have any more windows replaced, I will absolutely be calling the team at Peter Panes.

We notified them on 6/12/24, on 6/24 George himself came out to look at the pan and measure the closet to see if a new appropriate drain pan would fit because not all comply with current codes. He ordered the new drain pan, scheduled to have it installed but also commented on the review I left, he asked if he could come by. We said he could come verify our statements when the pan was installed but his team Brian and David were well aware of a number of issues prior to our final payment. Today, August 2nd the new drain pan was installed as George did acknowledge that is the proper installation for the set-up we have. He also reviewed a number of items, offered to fix what he could. While it was a nice offer/gesture, our experience with the team (Brian & David and all the sub contractors) made it impossible for us to accept. George indicated he was not aware and that a number of these items could have easily been punch list items to be taken care, but that option was never given to us. George did in fact reimburse us for a different issue. I'm grateful George stepped in and that he was willing to at least look into it. I'm more grateful he acknowledged and did correct the drain pan and I appreciate his offer to correct what he could. The crew that was here did an excellent job (from what we can tell as of today). It's unfortunate it had to be escalated but I can confidently say, when it was, George did everything he could to get taken care of appropriately.
