Visited the Panera Bread location on Route 40 in Catonsville today. I had a coupon on Panera's phone app for a free entree for my birthday which is the reason why I visited today. I used to go to Panera often when I lived in Pennsylvania. The food was always delicious and the service was always great. I was expecting the same today on my first visit to this location. The gentleman that waited on me was friendly and helpful. I ordered an Italian sandwich with chips to go. The same gentleman that took my order was now in the kitchen. He made my sandwich. When I got home and opened it, I saw that it basically looked like an Italian hoagie. OK fine. Then when I bit into it, I was like what is this? The bread was very tough. There was something on the sandwich that tasted like tuna or fish. I took the sandwich apart and there was no tuna. I then looked on the Panera website to see what this stuff was. Apparently it is a spicy garden pepper mix. Well this mix had gone rancid or something. It was very oily and the taste was just weird. Definitely the worst Italian sandwich that I have ever had and the worst Panera food I ever had as well. It was free so I didn't complain. I won't ever go to that Panera to buy food again though. This Panera is very busy. Today it was packed with people. I shop at other businesses in the shopping plaza on Route 40 where this Panera is located and it is a very busy shopping plaza. There is lots of parking. I used the bathroom and it was clean. Too bad that the food isn't very good. read more

This Panera Bread has been pretty good. The price is reasonable and it's quick. I usually come for breakfast and order either the oatmeal or the avocado egg white and spinach breakfast sandwich. Their bread is good too. read more

This review is long overdue and I should have posted this much earlier. About two years ago I went into this Panera location and looked at their front door sign to see their hours of operation because it was getting late. It turned out they were going to close at 9 p.m....and that was in about 5 minutes. As I was walking away, the manager of this place walked out the front door and smiled. He encouraged me to come in and order. I was quite surprised with his hospitality as he appeared to be genuine and not irked, knowing it was almost closing time. That happened two years ago, and I still remember that kind gesture to this day. Since then I continue to return to this Panera location. Stopped in for soup and a sandwich. Asked for a sample of a soup and the cashier was really nice and said he just had it too, and liked it. It was really good so I ordered it. The wait was fast and staff friendly. This location had large cups for water, that was great. The only bad part of my visit was that my grilled cheese had paper on the cheese. Conveniently located off 695 on Rt.40 - great access to many of my accounts in the Columbia, Ellicott City, and Catonsville area. Phoned in an order for lunch around 9am, and it was ready to go for noon. Love the dedicated cash register for phone-in orders - so nice to skip ahead of the regular lunch crowd! Also, policy is to fill the soup, fountain and hot beverages when you show up, so these items do not cool down (or have ice melt) while waiting for you to arrive. Nice touch! Best part of my experience.... the new white cheddar Mac N Cheese was not only on the menu, but a staff member was greeting you at the front door with SAMPLES! Yum!! Good customer service goes a long way! There's a girl named Gideon at this location who had me laughing the entire time I was ordering. Might I add, it was a pretty gloomy, rainy day. Service is extremely slow. Especially for curbside orders . Every time I've ordered a curbside order ive been waiting outside between 20-40 minutes. I've had to call for them to bring my food out , even though the app has a "I'm here" button . My food also ends up being cold because the food is never brought out in time. read more

This Panera is an occasionally trip for me. It is close to the college I attend, the food here beats the college cafeteria food any day. This local is similar to most others I have been to. Many places to sit and gather, good food, and good drinks. There is nothing to complain about with the food. The staff is sort-of aloof. I am not sure if was just the employees today or if they are always like this. The cashier was friendly, made sure she had my order correct before she completed the sale. The staff making the food are rather loud. I sat over 10 feet away and could still hear every conversation. Not all of the conversations were work appropriate. It was a little uncomfortable... One of the best Panera's i've been to. Kitchen staff are obviously working together to produce a quality product. Cuban sandwich was great, and chicken fuji salad tasty (wish they didn't go to the dried apples, though). Front cashier staff also are friendly and work well together. So, I usually go the the one on Security Blvd. I was in the area and stopped for my usual Fuji Chicken Salad. The chicken was rock hard. Not over cooked but frozen. Did anyone know that the chicken is all previously frozen. I didn't!!!! That makes me fell some kinda way... Maybe it's just me. But next time... Panera is like my go to place when I don't know where else to grab a bite. The line in this particular store was pretty quick. The food also came out pretty fast. The staff was friendly. Overall the establishment was fairly clean. Of course some customers leave their messed behind and when there's a rush they aren't always cleaned as quick as they are left behind. They used to have great ambiance and good portions. Lately portions have become smaller and food not served very warm. Renovation somehow missed the mark. A few of the paintings look very 80's. I do like the staff though and location is good w a pier 1 and goodwill close by. Perfect for meeting the girls for a quick lunch. This morning I came in for a rapid order. When I ordered prior to coming in I selected the wrong store. 1st off the entire staff greeted me when I walked through the door. I must have looked a little lost since it was not busy and I sat down. One member of the team ask if they could help me and I stated I had a rapid order. I was extermly impressed by the cosmuter service of Kyshuan. He took a look at my phone and said I had order to another location but "No worries Miss, we will take care of you". That they did! I love all the Paneras, but whoever chose to put one in this location had a great idea. Around here, there's a McDonald's and Burger King on every corner, so this is a nice welcome change. From soups to sandwiches to salads, I don't think there's anything on this menu I haven't liked. Even with the lunch crowd, the staff does their best to get you in and out in a reasonable amount of time. There's also free samples of bread to nibble on while you wait in line. And unlike the aforementioned establishmments, I've never had them mess up something on my order. It also makes a good meeting place for school and work assignments because of the internet access. I stopped by for a online order pick up. I happened to walk in to store at the same time with a staff named 'Herb'. He hold the door for me as a good gesture- he seems genuine, a great customer service!. I ordered a turkey sandwich & they put a pickle on the second paper wrap so the bread won't be soggy- very thoughtful!. I won't go too much into their menu. I suggest you look online. Most things are as good as they sound. However, I'm going to be very unpopular in saying the strawberry poppyseed is not tasty to me. My favorite things are the lemon orzo chicken soup, the frontenga chicken panini, and the retired tomato and Mozzarella panini. I believe you may still be able to order the tomato and mozz panini, since they now offer it as a flatbread and usually let you customize your order. The French onion soup is also delicious, as are most things I have tried. The employees at this location have always been great, especially the people who put the food together. I used to stop here a lot when I worked close by and they always greeted me while they were working. The loss of a star is for the women's bathroom. The floor is always wet when I go in. I think some of the plumbing is leaking. Maybe the sink? Also, once they forgot my salad dressing :( other than that, no complaints. read more

Panera used to be the spot. It was so good always! Now I feel like every panera I go to kind of sucks. Also - all their best menu items keep getting taken away. The breakfast sandwiches used to have variety and be really good. Now they are pretty gross. I love over easy eggs but not the ones panera is now putting on their sandwiches. Usually when I come to this spot the customer service is just okay. I ordered lunch for my coworkers today and wow I was disappointed. I sent the order through at 1032 and had to remove my breakfast sandwich because breakfast is over at 1030. Okay it's an automated system, that's fine because their breakfast sandwiches suck now anyway! I ordered 2 items that were clearly marked as no cheese - one for a vegan friend and one for a friend with a severe dairy allergy. Guess what? They both had cheese. One looked like it had been premade and they tried to pick out the biggest pieces of cheese before wrapping it up. All of the sandwiches were simply thrown in the bag wrapped loosely in paper. Nothing except salad was in a container. Just super disappointed. read more

I love this location as it's close to home, and I always appreciate that I can order lunch items (sandwiches) for breakfast here. The service is great, as is the atmosphere, and parking is more than adequate. I make regular business trips to Germany, where bread is unlike anything we can get here, but this is as close as I have found, and that includes the bakeries that are also located in Catonsville that supply the local Baltimore restaurants. Just remember that the card they give you for credit for points doesn't work on their website, so use your phone number to check in when you get there and throw the card away as we don't have enough room in our wallets for more cards anyway. That's not a show stopper if you know... Their website sucks, but that should not preclude you from visiting any Panera location. read more

Maybe it's just because i worked at the Dobbin location years ago that I can notice the difference in standard. But it's pretty upsetting that while trying to just order a bagel from the bakery, 6 people deep in line, that the trainer has his back turned to the line of customers, wiping crumbs off the cutting board. Manager gave me an attitude for waiting in front of the bakery register as well (after asking me if i was trying to order lunch and i responded "no, id just like to order a bagel") and told me to go wait at registers 400 and 500, then proceeded to have a full on conversation with said trainer in the bakery while ignoring the line of customers. I have been to this Panera Bread for awhile now and let me tell you. This place is amazing. The service here and the food just always makes me want to come back here more and more. Sometimes I eat by myself on lunch break and they have nice booths on the side that I like to sit at when on my lunch break. Or small booths are good for people who do not need a lot of space. The food is always fresh. There is a pet peeve about me. I like my soup very hard, because the hotter, the better it tastes. Usually they pour the soup first and then make the sandwich. I don't know if people like their soups Luke warm, but I don't personally. And sometimes I wish the workers would work a little faster because they do have a tendency to talk a lot while working. I mean I don't mind, but sometimes it does delay their work. But overall, this Panera is great and if you ever had a problem, management is very well set up here. This is my go-to Panera location because the food is always consistent, the service is fast, the employees are super friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy!! The broccoli and cheddar soup, apple fuji chicken salad, or a panini is usually what I get in a Pick 2 deal which can't be beaten! I love the Catonsville Panera! read more

This location has a lot going for it. Plenty of parking, large seating area with a fire place, and most importantly a friendly and helpful staff. It can however get pretty crowded at meal times and running out of the soup you want is always a bummer. Also cooperate seem to change the menu items a lot which is nice in a way but also leads to losing some items I'd grown to like and a bit of a growth curve by employees sometimes. In general though if you want to sit down relax and maybe study or surf the web there aren't many better places to do. read more

Terrible!!! I'm so done with the Panera franchise. It started off as a really good place to go for better fast food options, but lately the food is simply bland and their customer service is lacking.
