We had a really good experience last time we went here. I ordered online to have it ready to pick up when I got there. My best friend arrived a little bit before me and ordered hers in store. We ended up sitting inside to talk during my lunch hour. Ironically, we both ordered the same exact thing. Which was half of the green goddess salad and a cup of broccoli and cheese soup. I will say that I feel like she got more food, ordering it in store as opposed to to-go, however it was plenty of food for me so I couldn't really be mad. Nancy was extremely helpful. She directed me to where to find my food as it was not immediately obvious (at least to me!) She brought me a boiled egg when I discovered there was not one on my to go salad. She also refilled our waters. She was just so pleasant. I really wanted to give her some props. The salad was delicious as was the soup. I would definitely come back here for lunch. read more

The decor and vibe here is standard, the service is on point they staff is young and energetic and has good vibes- food is standard of what you will expect from Panera- prices has been lowered recently to very affordable. *Panera as a brand had been very ridiculously expensive the last 3 years but recently they lowered their prices because their holding company is afraid people will abandon the brand altogether. ~That is, if you don't mind the *plague* of homeless beggars and vagrants that invites themselves into the establishment via the unguarded side door. The kind that bother you for change or began unsolicited conversations. This location has never ween itself of these types- often they will wade in smelling like a walking urinal, then mumble and talk to themselves very loudly, at times hissing threats at ghosts, other times they would play their own MP3 players very loudly so you hear very R rated lyrics while a whole family- including children sits nearby looking apprehensive. And just so casual readers know what they'd be dealing with, the beggars (Duke Campus) here are very aggressive- they'd follow you trying to start a conversation for change, but if you refuse them- at times they might actively cuss you loudly as you walk off or even mumble stabbing you etc. The types that often sits here? some times they are so ignorant of the way they looked their hips are out of their pants as they sat looking around and completely aloof of people's personal space. Previously police had been called to walk tresspassers out- and indeed after a digital lock had been installed on the side door these occurrences happened less. Still, even with such measures these such types would park their shopping carts with all manners of bags and rubbish near the side of the building then walk in and sat for hours here. read more

The only thing this Panera has going for it is the location. My food was cold, the silverware was dirty, the place looked like it had a thin layer of grime on the kitchen walls. For our lunch meeting, we had Panera catered & delivered to our office. We ordered a variety of sandwiches, Caesar salad, Asian salad, fruit cups, cookies, and chips. The salads were really fresh (no wilted lettuce). I especially loved the Asian salad. I had the chicken salad sandwich and enjoyed every bite of it. For dessert, I had a fruit cup and a chocolate chip cookie. The food was great. Panera did a wonderful job putting together our order. The food was nicely packed and displayed. We don't live in Durham but when we are at Duke/or the area, we LOVE stopping by here! I love their store manager, their attitude and helpful nature. That said, I love Panera- the breads are delicious, the bagels are fresh and the coffee is pretty darn awesome! We get the usual assortment of bagels- Asiago, everything, Cinnamon crunch and occasionally a kid will get chocolate chip. The cream cheese is reliably delicious and the fresh sliced and toasted bagel is signature for yum. The duets for $5.99 is an unbeatable price for soup, bread and a half grilled cheese. The chocolate croissant is unbeatable and that orange scone was a carb lovers paradise. I dislike when people look down upon supporting chains- chain stores are owned by locals, our very own local employees who know the area, who smile, help and just make it all so worth it. Staff service is good but beggars are a nightmare Food is always excellent here, services good and there's always a college ambience with many students with their laptops. However beggars CONSTANTLY barges in and they keep harass diners- often they will then invite themselves to sit beside you while you are working and kept hustling you "sar" "sar" "sar?" Ad infinitim some times for 3-5 minutes even after you told them no. Wafting their outhouse smelling breath half a face from your cheek. You know that Stewie and Lois on the bed skit? It's like that, except with out house smelling breath on your cheek while her eyes drill into the side of your face. They certainly gave not a care about your refusal nor consent. And they don't take no for an answer. Worst part is that they will try to scam you. Once i finally budged and told a beggar woman and her "daughter" with a walking cane (not her daughter who would have guessed) fine i can get them something to eat. Then as i walked to the counter with them ("daughter" has no walking problem who could have guessed) then then began to each order something that would have costed 30 FUCKING DOLLARS. With a combo half and half meal, plus full soup plus a cookie, plus a pizza while chittering to each other going "what else chu want" (like a party) and STILL ordering more from the cashier on my tab. Context: im a light spender and never spend over 15 per meal. Eventually the cashier saw my discomfort and the 2 beggars were still raking up my tab and asked me if i want to keep going, and taking that as a hint i backed out and refused the tab- which was still ballooning before i walked off. I was so visibly upset after i get back working on my laptop that as i looked up later a girl was eyeing me. She's part of the service staff here and taking a breakfast break and the first thing she said to me was: " im proud of you. I wouldn't have given them too" Sigh. Thank you dear kind soul. Also the service is pretty bad. Like the people are nice enough but more than once I've been given food in a filthy bowl, or with flatware that has stuff stuck to it. Also, don't bother 'customizing' your order. They never bother to do any of those things. So if you pay more for cheese or something you are wasting money. This location is a "must avoid" area during rush hour. As many parking spaces as their are, the lot is usually packed with cars during lunch and especially dinner hours. If you go any time before or after the rush, you should be fine. The restaurant is very spacious with lots of seating. The food is good and A+ customer service. read more

I used to love Panera, but despite their commercials claiming they've improved, I think they've gone down hill probably to never rise again. I was only here because of a work meeting. Of all the local places to eat in this area, I was so disappointed Panera was chosen. This location is PACKED! They do have a large outdoor deck with lots of tables, yet that doesn't work on a 30 degree, very windy day. I ordered their Pick 2: Mac and cheese and one of their new salads. The Mac and cheese was decent. The salad was gross! Way too much dressing and the lettuce did not look fresh. What's up with the tea? They have 4 odd choices, but no sweet tea. You're in the South Panera, and we like sweet tea. The people who work here could not be any less friendly if they made an effort to do so. I'm done with Panera. It was surprisingly good, full off protein with both hard boiled egg and chicken, kale and other greens, avocado and a few other items. This location is just down free street from the hospital. My husband had emergency surgery which was finished up about 1:30 so we stopped by to get some soup and sandwiches. We specifically asked the fellow if the whole order was there and Chris replied yes because Chris did it. So we get home hungry and no food in the house. Opened the bags and we only got the soup, no sandwiches. I was one teed off lady! Husband wasn't that hungry but I was waiting all day for the surgery and it was now 8:30. Panera Bread is one of my favorite restaurants, but this is hands-down my favorite location! I've ordered delivery from here countless times, and the staff has always accommodated any special requests flawlessly. All of the delivery drivers have been polite, courteous, and prompt. They even threw in a free cookie one time just because I was somewhat of a regular! Restaurant is clean, indoor and outdoor seating is wonderful, and all of the workers are helpful and have a great attitude. Panera has a great deal on bagels by the dozen on Tuesdays! I had the Cinnamon Crunch Bagel - Freshly baked bagel with cinnamon and vanilla flavored chips, topped with a sweet, crunchy shell of cinnamon and sugar. Looks tough from the outside, but it's actually very soft on the inside and only crispy on the outer layer (assuming you eat this when it's first made, not a day later). It's like biting into a toasted sandwich. I'd consider this both a dessert and a breakfast meal. It's mildly sweet and very large in size. Great way to get your sugar fix in the morning. read more

But perhaps that is because Burger Bach opened 3 weeks ago next door and business has been hopping in this parking complex on 9th street. I come here every week for Bible study and it's been a great location! Things that I love about this Panera: -the location -the open space -plenty of large tables -great ambiance for group meetings/studying -reasonably priced food with lots of options. I love their pastries and their salads and soups! And the Panera card often has FREE rewards -good service. They close at 9pm but the staff is pretty polite about not kicking us out prematurely when we lounge around -clean and brightly lit Unfortunately the parking lot, which is also the lot for Harris Teeter and the restaurants across the street, has been near impossible to find parking in less than 5-10 minutes...I end up circling around and getting in awkward standoffs with cars waiting to pounce on spots. This is a very busy panera! I think they do a good job handling the crowds but be prepared to wait a bit during busy times. I ordered the you pick 2 with the autumn squash soup and turkey cranberry flatbread, which is always my fall go to. They ran out of the bread for the flatbread but offered a good alternative. The bread ended up being slightly burnt but I have no other complaints. I love how their menu changes seasonally and I enjoy using my mypanera perks! read more
