Stopped by the Panera in Kokomo and was pleasantly surprised by how large the location is. It's not surrounded by a lot of busy businesses, so it's easy to get in and out, plus there's a drive-thru and plenty of spacious parking. The store was fairly clean during my visit, and the restrooms were well maintained. I ordered bagels, and they came out just right, not burnt or overdone, which I appreciated. Staff were friendly, though the service didn't stand out as anything exceptional. I did notice there were no self-ordering tablets, which could've made things a bit smoother. I can see why this place doesn't have the best rating. I have had one staff look my way three times not a word and another one walk past me and didn't ask what I needed or anything. This isn't only about this Panera it's about the company in general . Yes they screwed up my pick up order but that's not the real problem . When it was ordered we ordered a large sandwich on French bread not the usual ciabatta. It came on white bread . You can't make a large sandwich on white bread . Ok it happens so I looked at the receipt to see if we were charged for a large . This is the problem . The receipt does not show the individual prices only the total . That's a recipe for overcharging . Ok I called the store they were pleasant and I didn't want anything from them just to give them a heads up . I then called Panera's customer service number and got an obviously incompetent answerer . I gave him my order number , for what reason I have no idea and then he wanted to know the store number which wasn't on the ticket even though he insisted it was . Then he wanted to know is I was a rewards member yet again none of his business. The last thing he wanted to know , last because I told him off and ended the call , was my phone number . All this because I wanted to know why the prices aren't on the receipt. Never again . Not till hell freezes over and pigs fly . The quality of food we ordered was good as always and was ready on time per the online app. However, we had ordered three bread bowls with a different soup in each. I had the order picked up by my so and they told him that they only had one bread bowl and just switched the other two to a regular bowl. I would have preferred that they would have given us all regular bowls because they made the decision on which soup was the smaller cup that went with that bowl. However, the bread bowl went with to my wife who got the soup that wasn't intended to get the bread bowl and one of the other persons ended up with small cup of soup, obviously, being courteous. They should of at least asked which soup they would like it to go with. Anyway, it was a good meal but just not they way we were expecting. read more

I am writing this review due to the rudeness and incompetence of one individual in particular who works at this location. I went through the drive thru here and the guy working the window was so unfriendly. He never said a word to me the whole time except to tell me the price of my order. I said thank you to him once he handed me my order and he slammed the window on me as I was saying it and walked away quickly without saying a single word to me. Awkward. Please consider re-training your employees who may need help with customer service etiquette and perhaps try to hire those who do not lack the necessary basic social skills it takes to interact with other human beings. I have been frequenting this Panera for a while now and I felt it was time to give them their just desserts. This store does a really great job. Their customer service is fantastic. I have never had a bad experience here. I come in late afternoons/ early evenings after a long day of teaching elementary school to grab something before my night class. It is so nice to be able to sit and relax while I'm eating and not have to contend with loud obnoxious music, employees or patrons. I like their Pick 2 option so I can have a smaller portions of two things. I especially like the fact that I can get a $.99 bakery item with my order. The bakery is indulgent but always worth it. My favorite are the iced shortbread cutout cookies usually in some holiday shape. I can never get enough of the plum ginger hibiscus iced tea. I ordered the strawberry poppyseed salad this evening. More than half the greens were lettuce butts (tough white stalk ends), not leafy greens. These should not come out of the kitchen, much less dominate the salad mix. Sparse chicken, but that's probably just inflation at work. Overall not a pleasant dish. Oh, Panera. I've tried giving this specific establishment its fair share of chances to prove my negative experiences were outliers, but each time I showed up I was only met with disappointment. The food is alright; if one adores simple bread and soup then the menu is a delight. However, my problem does not lie in the food. It rests in the utensils. I'm not sure if we just hit this location on an off night, or if this is the new normal since the bypass on US-31 around Kokomo has been completed. We were on our way through and stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday night around 7 pm. Ordered four bowls of soups for the family. All of the soup seemed very thick, and tasted slightly off. I'm guessing they had been sitting in the warming pot for a long time. The cheddar broccoli looked more brown than yellow. And the baguettes were very hard. So hard, in fact, that my children couldn't bite through the crust. I ordered the avocado cobb salad. While the flavor was as expected, I did find a number of romaine leaves with brown edges in the salad. I order Panera often for our business, in multiple locations throughout the United States. That being said, I am used to different issues here and there... but Panera Kokomo you take the cake. There is no excuse for the UNRELIABLE phone system (Prepare to be disconnected at least 10 times before you can get through to anyone) nor the lack of professionalism & attentiveness to catering orders/your patrons. Panera is typically good and this location was ok, but didn't blow my mind. I got the Summer corn chowder which was really good and the Asian chicken salad. The salad was kind of messy. I usually get it a lot, I just feel the lettuce was cut in huge chunks and there were lots of bits of lettuce core and brown pieces. read more

Service is a little slow here, but I feel like most Panera Bread locations have that issue. It's always worth the wait, though. The food is fresh and mighty tasty. I had the avocado bacon sandwich and it was super good. Very fresh and I just wanted more! I will get the full size sandwich next time. To be clear I am a huge Panera Fan! Typically, I'm pretty satisfied with Panera, however definitely not this visit! It was unfortunate that I visited late or near closing and the staff was too focused on closing tasks and not taking care of the customers at hand. Yes I was greeted and waited on, not the issue, my food was lukewarm and skimpy on portion size. Pretty sure I received the last of the Mac and cheese. All of the baked goods were basically sold out and the cinnamon roll I purchased was not fresh and seemed almost stale. Went through the drive-through for breakfast. Ordered a sausage egg and cheese sandwich and a Coke. The drink was so over filled as soon as I stick my straw in Coke sprayed everywhere inside my vehicle. Parked to eat, bit into a sandwich that had a sausage patty that was so overcooked it almost broke my tooth and had shrunk to half it's size. Tried calling them to see if I could just bring it in to exchange for a new sandwich but no one answered the phone, after three tries of calling in. So, back to the drive-through I go. By this time almost a half hour had went by and I was obviously upset and expressed my concerns at the window. As they were getting my money out of the cash register to refund me, I could hear them talking about calling the phone number on my company work truck to complain. Which they did. I normally came in in the afternoons, but even when I grumpily dragged myself in in the morning, they were super friendly. As I walk in, I suddenly felt like I had a meaning for my life. I smelled the scrumptious smell of... well the food, I had a sensation come over me of complete satisfaction. As I took my first big step into this magical place, I had to Wonder through the vast jungle of clean and neat tables, and of course, people. Then it hit me. As I looked over the large selections of supposedly super scrumptious food, I began to feel anxiety. How could I decide? With the help of the ever helping cashier man, I finally picked two of the many choices. The tomato and mozzarella flat bread, and the Bristol French onion soup. Then he handed me the ever fascinating contraption of the buzzer. This little device uses the force and will vibrate when you food is ready. Well it vibrated, and I was ready. My stomach was growling like a bear. So I dug in. The smoothe sensation of the soup was like eating a rainbow. The flatbread was like eating an Italian salad, so good that I couldn't stop.
