As you probably know, Panera is a casual chain restaurant that serves foods such as salads, soups, sandwiches, and baked goods. In the past, I liked other locations of Panera, but when I visited this location yesterday, I felt disappointed in the service and food. Through Panera's website, I ordered a Strawberry Poppyseed Salad with Chicken and a side of French bread. The website said that they were out of mandarin oranges, so those would not be included in the salad. OK. The restaurant emailed me that my order would be ready for pickup in 10 minutes--fast! I arrived at the restaurant, and I waited a few minutes for my food to be ready. An employee brought out my to-go bag of food. I said hi to her, and she did not respond. I asked her if the bag was my salad, and she replied, "Hmm." She handed my bag to me. I said thank you to her, and she did not respond, and she just walked away. At home, I ate my salad. The lettuce, strawberries, pineapple, and blueberries were very fresh, but no chicken was included! This is not my favorite Panera location for several reasons. First, don't even try to walk in and order your meal, this place is jam packed and there is always only one person working the register. Your best option is online ordering, and they also have a kiosk at this location for you to enter your own order. Secondly, I have been here a few times to pick up lunch and have been sadly disappointed each time. The food is so TINY and so EXPENSIVE! I kick myself every time I order from here. The atmosphere of one big open room was awful compared to other Paneras with many seating options inside. The to stay salad was in a plastic box and the half sandwich was wrapped in paper and miniature in size. Bread not normal panera style. Was shocked how bad the experience was. On a rainy Saturday, we ducked in for a late lunch and ordered two Mediterranean Bowls with chicken. The gentleman at the counter taking orders must have rung it in wrong because our bowls came out without any chicken. We weren't charged for it but we wanted some protein. Just so happens, another employee came around and asked how everything was so we let him know and he shared it with his Manager. She wanted to get us chicken but we were almost done and I really wanted the issue to be a teachable moment for the counter person. She brought us out two chocolate chip cookies on the house. Service there is awful. I met with my group there for a quick dinner and meeting. Towards the end of the night as we were finishing up, they decided to turn up the music so that we would not be able to hear. We were only there for an hour and a half. We had dinner and a quick meeting. I asked nicely for them to turn down the music, twice. Music was never turned down and they were just horrible. Very stressful experience. There was a young lady behind the counter yelling at a man named Jerry???? I don't know who Jerry is or what he did wrong. While waiting for my soup and smoothie i couldn't help but feel that it was my civil duty to jump over the counter and help poor Jerry. The rest of the staff escorted me back to my table when I attempted to do so. Once I received my soup I noticed there was a small piece of plastic, like something from a straw wrapper, in my soup. Am I being taxed on this?? Do I have to tip for this??? Overall, the ambience of this location is quite nice, I like the choice of happy music to drown out the constant yelling at poor Jerry. Very disappointed in their service. Went to order my food and after about a couple of minutes the lady showed up and told me that she would be right with me. She walked to the kitchen area to speak with another employee about there weekend. I know this because I could plainly see them and hear their conversation. Finally after about a couple more minutes the employee walks up and ask me how can she help. I told her my order and then she told me that I needed to go to the kiosk and place my order because they were short staffed - hmmm? Overpriced for what you get. Coffee station frequently has Luke warm coffee or out of one or more options. Tried the new Buffalo Chicken melt - all bread only a few shavings of chicken . I could have gotten a chicken sandwich meal (including fries and a drink) at Chik-fil-a for less than just a sandwich at Panera and actually tasted chicken. After all of the visits I've made here over the years, I was actually surprised by the reviews of this location. The food is what you'd expect... Solid, mostly healthy, a little pricey, but a better option than most fast food joints. To me, I think this is the most pleasant Panera staff in the Pittsburgh region. I will not come here again. Here's why 1) the kiosks were not working at all. My friend and I stood at one for 5 minutes having various problems, while the staff stood around and said nothing to us. When we went to the cash register to order instead, they said "Oh, those are not working. And we don't have any blinker cards either." So on to 2) my friend ordered a sandwich on bagel. We waited to hear her name called, but after about 15 minutes she finally got called. At which time, she went to pick it up and there was no flatware. She requested some, and the staff looked blankly at her, as if she did not understand one word. 3) my other friend arrived later, having already ordered on her phone app. Long story short, they never received her order, thus having to wait another 15 minutes for a simple bagel and cream cheese. Every time I'm at this Panera, there is one manager that is so rude to her employees. The worst part of it is that she is rude to the employees out in the open. Everyone can hear it. This manager is always complaining and yelling at her workers. I feel bad for the employees of Panera. This is not how a leader should act. This happens every time I'm in there. It's a bad look. My first time at this location and visited with my girl friends. We sat outside because the temp inside this Sept day was downright frigid! Much too cold for us and most of the kids inside were in hoodies and jackets. This impacted my rating. I ordered a half tuscan chicken sandwich and BBQ flatbread. I'm really glad to see that this location is rated lower than other local Panera Breads, because I do enjoy Panera, in general, even if I find their food to be overpriced and frequently sloppily put together. I've actually reached out to Panera corporate about this location's terrible service, and got no response. The first awful instance I had was a delivery order. I was with a group of about 5 other women and we had food ordered to one of their houses. All of the orders arrived on time except mine. I called the restaurant to tell them and they said they would send someone out right away. My friend lives about 4 minutes from this location. Half an hour later, I had to call again. They said they were busy and my driver was on his way. HALF AN HOUR LATER, NO FOOD. All of the other girls finished their lunch and went home. I called and they said that the driver went out for my delivery, couldn't find it (didn't call me) and came back to the restaurant. They offered me a cookie for my wait. I ended up getting my lunch around dinner time. I was still charged and got two cookies for my trouble. I should have reached out about this location then. But I tried the drive through while in a rush one night and got home to find that my cheddar broccoli soup was actually french onion soup. I mean, I like French onion, too! But the french onion didn't have any cheese, no croutons. It was literally broth and onions. I'm not sure if it's that this location is understaffed, if they are overwhelmed by having orders come in for in-store, takeout and delivery or if they are truly just not competent workers, but quite frankly these repeated disappointments and lack of acknowledgment from Panera Bread corporate have me putting Panera Bread last on my list when it comes to eating out. read more

This Panera so far so good! I mostly order online, and do the rapid pickup. After my delicious breakfast (new wrap) i decided on some caffeine, so i went to the register and the nicest most patient young lady helped me. My lunch was also great, the fresh vegetables sandwich is always good, ordered it this time with light red onion... I like online ordering because of the Easy customization, payment, and loyalty card hookup. Seems most of the negative reviews could be circumvented by using the app for that!!! read more

After a 10 minute wait, we received two very hot lattes, in plastic milkshake cups. With straws nonetheless. Luckily made it home without anyone getting burnt. Huge liability for Panera. Panera bread is one of my favorite places to grab a quick sandwich or salad. My go to sandwich that I get every time is the bacon turkey bravo (on ciabatta bread). I have been to the McCandless Crossing location many of times; all of which have been great experiences until the last one. A month ago I used the drive thru (which I love) and didn't check my order until I sat down to grub when I got home. I ordered my usual bacon turkey bravo and was very disappointed because they left the signature sauce off. I'm not sure what the signature sauce is made of, but it takes the sandwich to the next level. It tasted like a very basic turkey sandwich without it. After looking at my receipt I noticed it said to notify them of any orders that are incorrect. So I sent out an email with my receipt information and explained the slip up but never received an email back. After looking at the low yelp ratings this location has received, they really should take their customer service a little more seriously. read more

Went to Panara for takeout salads. This was the second time I requested the Strawberry Poppyseed salad and the second time they said they did not have strawberries. This is not my usual Panara but I was headed home and wanted to do drive through on a 90 degree day. Lesson learned I should have remembered the last time and looked at Yelp before going to McCandless Crossing Panara. It is easy to understand all the low scores and I also saw a mean female manager berating an employee while I waited for my non- strawberry salads. When you cannot get fresh strawberries in July and there is a Trader Joe's in the same mall it is poor management. Lesson learned skip this Panara next time. read more

This Panera location has a really nice layout. The dining area is clean, and staff members are friendly. The food cane out relatively fast. We were however pretty disappointed with the stale bread that came on our sandwiches and the stale side baguettes. In addition, the restrooms really need to be maintained and cleaned better. read more

There was a very nice young man working the counter when he made the simple mistake of charging us the incorrect amount for our food. The manager who's name was Amy came over and yelled at him in front of customers. He was very respectful but she fired him and yelled at him in front of the entire restaurant. I wrote an email complaint to corporate and got a response 4 days later from a manager saying she can't help me because this isn't her store. Really lady?? Soup is always Luke warm or cold. Never hot. Your bill will be about $15-20 for one person and nearly $30 for two. It's not worth the price, hassle, or wait times. Keep your money and go elsewhere. I really hate to give this location such a low review. But, this is the 2nd time I've been there and received extremely poor customer service. The cashier acted as if I was bothering her by asking to put in my number for my Panera rewards. She talked to another employee the entire time of our interaction. She complained about being cold and didn't even respond when I said "Good morning". The Panera is the worst I've ever been to. First off, their bathrooms are DISGUSTING. I'm talking dried urine, feces, dirt and hair all over the toilets in the women's room. Floors in restaurant are gross as are the tables. As for the food, I ordered a chicken wrap. The wrap was broken and stale. Paid an extra $2 and change for a double portion of chicken. The portion I got was far less than a regular portion at any other Panera. The cheese was old tasting, and in general the wrap was not what I would expect from Panera. A friend and I stopped at this Panera hoping for a quick and easy meal. We ordered on the kiosk but they were sold out of almost everything we wanted- including their famous mac and cheese. I settled for a grilled cheese and my friend got some other sandwich. For my drink, I got an iced tea (which they did not say they were sold out of) but when I walked over to pour my drink there was no sweet tea in sight. Our orders took forever so when they finally called my friends order out she was excited to dig in, but she had my grilled cheese. We decided to wait for my order to come out to see if I had gotten her sandwich- but i hadn't, i had gotten my grilled cheese. After the long wait she decided to just suck it up and eat the grilled cheese. It was horrible compared to other Paneras I've been to; it was like wood glue between two soggy pieces of bread with hard crust. While I have yet to eat here, since this is just my AM coffee stop (if I have time) on the way to work, I have been impressed each and every time I have visited by the demeanor of the staff. Panera is not typically a place (in my experience) that you find an always cheerful, friendly, and helpful staff, but at this particular location, I have only had the most positive interactions. Even this morning when the line was about 7 people deep, the cashiers remained calm and friendly and took an appropriate amount of time with each guest depending on what he or she was ordering. I know my order is always simple (medium coffee to go-LOVE the Hazelnut), but I just wanted to give a kudos to the staff for always handing me my cup with a smile on their face, which is nice to see when I'm still half-asleep in the morning! read more
