Located in a high end shopping center near LL Bean and Ruth's Chris. We stopped for lunch on a Thursday. We ordered at the counter and our food was ready just as we sat down with our filled drinks. I had the chicken strawberry poppyseed salad while my husband had the new chicken Caesar salad, both of us with a baguette piece on the side. The only criticism we had is that our chicken slices were still frozen together in chunks. It was still soft and fine to chew, but surprisingly cold, especially in the first encounter! This was worst experience we've ever had at a Panera. The grilled cheese was an$8 kiddie portion size sandwich. My wife ordered the new toasted Caprese sandwich and as vegetarians we depend on a good portion of cheese. See our picture the cheese is so thin it is melted into the lettuce and looks like lettuce not cheese. The big picture advertising shows a big, thick slice of mozzarella one would expect on a caprese at any restaurant of any value. The manager finally came to our table and agreed to give us a refund but had the audacity to tell us they do not apply toppings Willy Billy and all sandwiches get the same size slice of cheese. They didn't include a sandwich melt I ordered, and decided to check on it on my way home. I called and talked with Iris the manager at South barrington store. Asked her to have it ready. When at the counter she rang me up for the sandwich and explained they didn't charge originally. I said ok, but could at least apologize for my inconvenience coming back and now rest of my food is going to cold. The mistake was yours not mine and you don't seem to give a hoot. The bathrooms were clean and the food was up to the usual standard. I had the turkey chili for the first time, and it was just the right amount of spice. I would not recommend it for kids or those who don't like a little heat. The layout of this location is a little narrow, but there's plenty of space for a group of up to 8 to sit together. The only reason for 4 stars is that Panera does not offer gluten-free bread options, and an employee told us that they will never do so. I met a friend at this Panera a few times to catch up over drinks. It's on par with other Panera's in the area. The staff was always friendly-- almost to a fault. As she doesn't eat meat this seemed to be somewhat of an annoying task for her to remove chicken. As we were walking away both cashiers started snickering. Feeling that she was mistreated and had been laughed at she alerted the manager who said she would take care of it. I've been to many Panera Bread locations, all across the country, but this one easily ranks as #1. The food is similar to every other location I've ever been to, but what makes this Panera stand out is their customer service. Their servers up front, where you order your food, are polite, responsive and pleasant to talk to. In addition, they keep the place spotless, and often times come around and ask to take your tray when you are done, which is such a nice little service. Furthermore, as someone who works from home, I often visit this location to work. The sitting space is large enough to where I can usually grab a booth, and is situated to where it is fairly quiet. Also, there are power outlets at every booth, which is great! I've been a fan of Panera Bread for a long time now, but this location is easily the best one. I can't wait to go back. --- A quick story about this Panera...A few months ago I came in and ordered lunch. I used a gift card, which had $2 left on it, and was prepared to pay cash for the rest of the meal (about $6). The restaurant's power was down and they couldn't swipe my card. The server up front asked how much was left on the card, I said $2, and she proceeded to take the card and give me the rest of my meal for FREE. It completely made my day. Little things like that go a long way, and this Panera makes sure to do things like that every now and then. read more

Have stopped in to get bagels and coffee before work for the office and will be told that they are out of plain bagels by 8 am. I really like this Panera. I have one closer to my house (Schaumburg and Barrington Road) but I needed to do some Christmas shopping, so my friend and I agreed to meet up here beforehand. This location is fast, friendly, and accurate. They had the fire roaring, too, so it was really cozy and warm--a nice addition to my soup and salad (which hit the spot quite nicely).
