I've never been to a Panera Bread before, and after an experience like this I doubt I'll return. Located on scenic Route 23, this establishment is basically an overpriced sandwich shop for hipsters. I arrived around lunch hour on a sunny summer day with my girlfriend, the place was busy and we stood online for a few minutes. The cashier yelled "NEXT" at the top of her lungs when I was clearly right in front of her. She asked me what I would like, I ordered a steak panini, and with the price of 16 dollars for that, a small drink, and a bag of air, (chips) you'd hope it would be decent. My girlfriend ordered one of the generic 15 dollar paninis with chicken, and in replacement for the bag of air, you can opt in for a bakery good instead for a fee. So, they cut a full size brownie about 3 times in half until it was the size of a lego and gave that to us. Thanks. My total comes to about 30 something dollars, I could have gotten a full course dinner at Outback for two at that price, but instead I received two credit-card sized paninis, a bag of air, and a lego. Do they spread gold on the bread? I sat down with my tray at a filthy napkin covered, soup spilled infested table and lifted my bread off the steak panini to check the food, I wanted to make sure the "steak" or whatever it was, to be cooked properly. The bread felt warm, but upon examining the steak; It was pinker than a pair of ballet shoes, and about as cold as the Arctic ocean. So I went up to the kitchen window and showed them what they had just given me, and asked if they could cook it properly or make me a new one. The man working the kitchen was goofing around with his co-worker, after desperately trying to get his attention, he looked at the panini and back at me and shook his head like I had just showed him a dead body. I explained to him what the problem with the sandwich was, but he replied; "I'm not going to touch that after you did". No apology, no nothing. I asked for a new sandwich or some kind of compensation, but again, nothing. He assured me it was cooked to perfection even after showing him how raw the meat was, and how dangerous it was to serve raw meat to a customer. He didn't care, I mean what does a 15 year old kid know about cooking steak? From his eyes it was a perfect panini, and he said to me and I quote, "If you aren't happy with the temperature there's a microwave right over there". Are you kidding me? I should mention, my girlfriend's panini tasted like a foot with melted cheese. This place can care less about its customers, or their food. They just want a paycheck. Overpriced, tasteless, dirty atmosphere, and rude co-workers. Just go to your local deli and order yourself a turkey sandwich. Enter at your own risk. read more

Someone please explain what the appeal is here..the homemade bread? Big deal. Always crowded. Confusing to order. Overpriced. Rubbery chicken. Impossible to carry "tray" they give you to get to your table - and I'm one person. Can't imagine if my son was with me and ordered. Today I used the Panera online ordering Rapid Pick Up for the first time. I had a short lunch break. today and included in the order was an iced tea. I picked up the Rapid Pick Up bag and hurried back to the office where I discovered the beverage cup was empty in the bag. How was I to know that with Rapid Pick Up that I was supposed to open the bag - find the empty beverage cup - and wait in line at the store dispenser to fill it? Very frustrating! At least now I know to always open the bag - check the contents - and fill my own drink even with Rapid Pick Up. Erg, yikes. Panera is my favorite "fast" food place but this place was not good...at all. My salad was dry and not that flavorful. I always get the Pick 2 Option: fuji apple salad with chicken and the chicken salad sandwich with the mango smoothie but this was not one that mouth particularly loved. It's okay though! Always out of everything, clueless staff and unfriendly manager, maybe it's a hiring issue because of the times, but nobody takes orders correctly, drink comes from one place, bread from another, coffee from another, inconsistent and always have to have orders redone, can easily wait 15 minutes for a warm coffee and non toasted bagel with no knife or butter packets included, does not help that everything is waaaay overpriced read more

Gourmet sandwiches galore & tasty fresh baked breads are what makes Panera, Panera! My typical meal usually consists of the U Pick 2 combo of 1/2 a Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich and a bowl of Creamy Chicken & Wild Rice soup. Of if I'm feeling a lighter meal, I will trade my sandwich for a Greek Salad. They are a little pricey, but if you want "gourmet", you've gotta be willing to pay the price! But prices run about the same as a sandwich from Au Bon Pain or the like. However, I was once berated by an employee because the cashier let me choose 2 soups as my U Pick 2 choices and apparently you're not allowed to do that. So instead of taking it out on the cashier, she took it out on me. I complained and corporate sent me a $10 gift card. Worked out well. I went to pick up dinner for the family at 6:30pm one day - 6:30, typical dinner time or shortly after and they had already run out of ingredients for a sandwich. How is it possible to run out of food during a peak serving hour?! They are in the business to sell food - so if you run out of food, what do you plan on selling? So there's always a chance they may run out of what you're looking for, but no matter what, they always have something tasty on their menu! read more

I have been to Panera all over NY and NJ and love it every time. However, I have to admit that this one did not meet any of the standards that the other locations have set. The coffee was luke warm and the cheddar broccoli soup, which is usually thick and creamy, was very watered down. Everyone seemed friendly until I was waiting for my food and over heard one of the employees (I guess the manager) reprimand an employee about the bad job he did stocking the cutlery. Pretty good, except for one issue that happens to me without fail: I always specifically order toasted bread on my sandwich. And the person taking my order seems to be entering that preference. But when I get the sandwich, it's NEVER toasted. And the person serving it to me always seems surprised and a bit confused by the whole thing. While the cashier was trying to make change, a girl making a beverage asked him whether there were 8 ounces or 16 ounces in a cup. He thought about it and said 16. I had to intervene and tell her there are 8 ounces in a cup, and 16 in a pint. That did not inspire confidence. This place stinks. I ordered two sandwiches and a soup on a Tuesday night and I waited TWENTY minutes for my food. The place wasn't busy, and it's not like there's a host of chefs in the back crafting the soups and carefully cooking the meats and assembling the sandwiches. Then, for the second time, my Frontega Chicken sandwich was not put on the panini machine to melt the cheese and give it that charred goodness. I always had ordered from Panera the Asian salad and vegetal soup. This is not the first time that something is wrong with my order, I usually try to mediate the problem with management and carry on with my day. In this particular occasion, I ordered a half an Asian salad and a bowl of vegetable soup, and an extra half an Asian salad in the store. As I was eating my soup almost half way trough it I notice a white transparent strand, I picked it up with my spoon and it got longer, I touched it with my two fingers and indeed it was a piece of plastic. Now at this point I called management and explained the situation subtle, all I wanted was my money back and a different soup. The manager didn't apologize for the incident, told me he can only refund me for the order but couldn't give me another soup, and if I wanted the soup I had to go to the establishment and pay for it. At this point I was very upset, because that's not how customer service is applied. I asked him for his name and he said he's name was TAHJ. At the end of the ordeal my husband went to the store and a lady called DORIS said she was the manager apologized to my husband and she had no clue who the person I spoke in the phone was. This was my first visit to a Panera Bread. It was noon on a Thursday. I chose what might be a less busy time to go. Maybe it was but it was still very crowded. The cashier guy was upbeat and patient. I ordered the Mediterranean Veggie sandwich, bowl of turkey chili soup and a cup for a fountain drink and also a bag of chips. I was given a vibrating coaster and I then chose my seat. I heard my name called then the coaster was activated. Nobody greeted me to release the food to me so I left the coaster on the counter and took my meal. The whole sandwich and bowl of soup was a bit more than I needed. Both tasted great with Ginger Hibiscus Tea and then iced tea. The wi-fi signal was strong as I downloaded updates to my tablets. The worst ( non covid friendly) employees I have ever seen. Went today spent over 50 dollars and included tip ( which I now see why you should always tip after a service) Long story short got 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 soup order. You walk your food back to the table which we did pick the furthest table to be away from everyone. To realize sandwich is made wrong. Walk the sandwich and soup on the same plate back to counter to tell them. Heres the kicker they will replace the sandwich but not a new soup, which will be cold by the time the new sandwich is done and walked thru the store 3 times now. ( pick up, returned, and back to table) Who in there right mind would eat that during these times. After a bad experience and years of hate, I returned to try this place again. My experience was pretty amazing this time and the food delicious. I go to Panera every other week. Once on my way back from picking up my granddaughter and once when I drop her off two days later. Always in the morning. The Panera on Rte 23 has a person who is so rude. Older white lady at the register. I always groan when I get there and see her. Never a good morning or a smile and I can count on being ignored for a bit while she wipes or brushes the counter. The food is overpriced. The least she can do is be courteous. WORST Panera ever. We ordered for delivery well over an hour ago. The website said the Wayne location was moving faster than the West Caldwell one. Our orders have been "out for delivery" for 55 minutes now. Many of us have soups which are guaranteed to come cold. I'm a big fan of Panera and was excited to find out that this one is just 10 mins away from my new job. One Panera is just like every other one being a chain restaurant but this one was very well kept and organized. I like that they have a fast lane with a kiosk that you order and pay rite there as long as you are paying with a credit/debit card. From when I placed my order on the tablet it was about 5 mins till my food was ready and I was out the door and on my way. Great friendly service. read more

This is one of my favorite lunch spots to go with my DD or friends. However, last night my DH and I decided to stop in for dessert. I don't know what happened to this place but it was dirty and my hubbie got a crumb muffin which was hard enough to use as a weapon! I really do love Panera Bread restaurants. Not this one. I stopped in for breakfast a few days ago, and it was horrible. The cashier, who also served bakery items, had long, unkempt fingernails. Trim your nails! They are disgusting! I ordered my food, had a drink, used the bathroom, and found, despite there not being any customers in front of me, that my food still hadn't been started. Went in at 8:45 took them 10 minutes to come up and ring up my order. Once I was finished, I went to wait. It took them 10 minutes to find the last package of Mac and Cheese.
