Dallas Affaires Cake Co made our wedding cake last year. After trying about four total cake companies, with two fairly picky eaters, we ultimately decided upon this company to make the cakes for our special day. First of all the presentation for trying all the cakes and numerous fillings was so fun! In general, my husband loves the cake portion, I love the icing. With this company we were able to try all the fillings in the privacy of our home (which we had a good time with outside at a table...our own special lunch date). While all the fillings were so tasty, we felt that the cake and icing themselves stole the show. I did eat a few of the fillings solo, because they were THAT good. My husband loves to travel so we chose a suitcase decorated with "stickers" from all of our destinations from the previous year. We planned our wedding in two months so we wanted something meaningful but not to elaborate for him. I don't really like chocolate cake, (love the icing) but this was the best chocolate cake and it paired so well with the fudge icing. For the main cake, I chose one that I had seen on social media weeks before choosing them for my cake. I did some research and found it was made by Dallas Affaires! They did not disappoint and we showcased my cake in the front room on entry. I am posting this a year later because this last year has been crazy, but we also celebrated our first anniversary last weekend with our anniversary cake provided by Dallas Affairs Cake Co. It was just as tasty as the first time around and it was so special, that it truly made our anniversary weekend. We planned our meals around dessert time, lol. Wow. I can't say enough good things. We ordered a few cake pops from here for my daughters bday. And by we I mean my wife sent me here to place the order and pick them up. I knew nothing about the place but took my 3.5 year old son here with me for the order placing. I showed a picture of what we wanted (I follow honey do list instructions very well) and has some specific instructions as well. We wanted them pop part up bc otherwise they are not instagram worthy. So I guess you could save we did it for the gram. Anyways while we were there it was snack time for my son and I'm always down for snacking on cake treats so we partook in an extensive cake pop tasting session of almost everything in the display window: Oreo, red velvet, chocolate mousse , birthday cake (vanilla and chocolate - they had two types!), vanilla. Everything was delicious and that's not even the best part. The woman who took our order (and also was around when I picked up) was the nicest lady ever!!!! This was not the same tasting cake I had during the tasting. Completely different. Craving cakes, Petit Fours closed. Rush Pastries "had a rush on cakes" and only had one mini coconut cake left, so I called Dallas Affaires to see if they had anything and they assured me they did. When we got there they had petit fours, egg shaped iced brownies, cookies, baby cakes (looked like really big cup cakes), cookies and a Grand Mariner pound cake. We had two petit fours, a brownie and a slice of the pound cake = $12.99. Bit high but eh...maybe they are worth it. My daughter had the have the yellow egg shaped brownie with a duck on it and sugar sprinkles. It was a great brownie and the yellow icing, whatever variety it was, complimented it perfectly...as did the ducky. The petit fours were awesome. The pound cake was dry. It was half gone so it might have been better earlier in the day. But it had a nice flavor and they smeared a bunch of extra Grand Mariner icing on it, so it wasn't bad. For the price I wish it had been more moist. I will go back mostly because it is super close to my home. While I was there I perused the books of cakes they can do. They look amazing, but pricey. I think I want the pink and metallic gold Juicy Couture cake! I'd have to taste some samples to be sure. I'm sure they'd let me, the staff was super friendly and very accommodating. This is a pretty nice bakery. I stopped in and got an orange cake ball, a red velvet cake ball, a chocolate hazelnut cake ball, and a chocolate strawberry cake ball. I thought the nuts would be finely chopped and the flavor spread evenly throughout, which is what I would prefer. It was moist, but just OK. The chocolate strawberry cake ball was moist but way too sweet. The strawberry flavor was too subtle and the chocolate overpowered. The cake balls were beautiful, and I like that you can see the staff working up front decorating and constructing cakes. First off, I think this place makes mostly wedding cakes, which I know nothing about. After about 2 minutes on the phone, I decided I didn't know enough about cakes to describe exactly what I wanted so I gave the lady on the phone these instructions- "I need something classy and elegant, with gold and cream ribbons and roses please." What they produced from my extremely vague instructions was stunning. Even my mom said so--and it's pretty rare for her to give out compliments like that. It was the main thing everyone at the party kept talking about. More importantly, I had it sitting out on an elegant display table for about two hours--with people taking pictures all around it---and it tasted AMAZING. Everyone wanted to know where we got it from. I was a little nervous at first because a couple of the reviews said that they missed the details but these people did a fantastic job. The lady understood I was super busy with my job and finals and called back a couple times to ensure everything I wanted was included in the cake details-they were extremely thorough. I don't know much about cakes, but I have a keen eye for color and detail. This cake looked and tasted fantastic, and went perfectly with the color scheme for our event. I actually found Dallas Affaires based on reviews from Chowhound which I found through a search on Google. But I can assure you that's the last time I will be ever using that site (Chowhound and not Google). I should have stuck to Yelp :) I ordered my wife's birthday cake here a couple of weeks ago. The prices are quite steep to be honest, but I didn't care about that since it was her birthday and also because I read some good reviews about this place. The store is located in an interesting area with lots of little boutique shops and restaurants. The parking is a bit tight and you have to be careful when you are reversing out as you have to reverse directly into the main road which was quite busy on the day I went there. When you walk in the store you are quite amazed and wowed at their artistic capability. In the display case you see a variety of decorated cake balls. All the cakes look so awesome. They have a cake which was shaped like a Louis Vitton handbag, and another like a suitcase, and another like a football, etc. They had my cake ready but didn't have a case for me which would close. So I had a huge challenge trying to take it home without crushing / damaging it. Long story short, it survived and made it to her party. Everyone thought the cake looked awesome until they had a bite to taste. Once you try the cake you feel like you are eating a piece of cardboard. The cake is literally disgusting. I think anyone on the street can bake a better tasting cake using Betty Crocker mix from Kroger's. Or better yet just buy a cake from Kroger's Bakery which tastes pretty good in itself. So what happened with this place? I guess the moral is to never judge the book by its cover. read more

So, being the SSB's birfday and all, I was on a mission: to find the best cake, slathered in the best buttercream frosting, that Dallas had to offer. My baby has a thing for buttercream, and after calling no less than FIVE bakeries, I discovered (to my naive surprise) that buttercream isn't standard. Dallas Affaires claimed to do it right, however, and I was impressed with their speedy response to my email inquiries. I travel between cities practically weekly. It's not feasible for me to just drop in on every bakery and casually inquire about their services. Speedy communication is the best kind when I am on the road all of the time, and it seems that simply emailing people sometimes means you don't get taken seriously as a customer. Dallas Affaires responded in less than 24 hours, and answered all of my later questions promptly and thoroughly. They were super-friendly at all times. I actually went in to the store to order the cake, and after drooling on the counter while perusing the long list of choices, I settled on a white chocolate cake with Chambord Italian cream filling and raspberry puree, covered in vanilla buttercream, with a chocolate trellis finish on the outside. For a cake to serve approximately 10 people it was $80, which seemed pricey, but it was a special occasion and after speaking to the other bakeries, I was more than willing to pay it if they could actually deliver in the end. Risky. Was nervous. Thankfully, I was nervous needlessly. This cake was not only jaw-droppingly pretty, but it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I highly recommend this bakery based on my experience here, and will definitely use them again for future needs. Final answer? DE-LISH. They're worth the cost. P.S. From what I could see, they were generally sold out of cake slices, cupcakes, and cake balls both times I went in. If you're looking for these items, I'd DEFINITELY call ahead. read more

I think Dallas Affaires has the best cake in Dallas. Anytime I go in, the service is great. The people who work there really care and are genuinely into making some great cake. My friend is engaged and I was pushing Dallas Affaires hard for her wedding cake - they let me swing buy in a matter of minutes and they had a wedding cake sampler ready for me to bring to her. When that kind of service combines with the best cake around, life is good. I'm a lazy cake eater. I usually don't think ahead when cake cravings arise and Dallas Affaires accommodates my type of lazy. I'm always able to find a pre-made cake to slay the cake hunger beast. I have never served a Dallas Affaires Cake at a party and not had numerous guests ask where it came from or to recognize it as a Dallas Affaires cake. You can walk into their bakery and SMELL the difference immediately. I have used Dallas Affaires for years, starting with my wedding and groom's cake 14 years ago. Both were incredible looking (the groom's cake was a Texas A&M Bonfire cake that received more attention than the wedding cake). I think their chocolate cake is a little dry, but their white cake with the Raspberry Italian Creme filling (their most popular), or any filling for that matter, is to die for! I have used them for a wide variety of events and tried a large selection of their layered cakes with fillings, they are all wonderful. Their prices have increased significantly over the last five years and at $85 for a standard round two layer birthday cake, that is supposed to feed 12-15 (but really feeds more like 20-25), they are now very PRICEY. Also the staff is NOT at all FRIENDLY and never has been. They seem to be bothered by you when you order the cake, when you pay for the cake and also when you pick up the cake. They will let you ask for special requests and they have never once messed up my order, but they have also never smiled in the process. So if you need a GREAT tasting CAKE and you are willing to fork over the dough and deal with the staff, you will not be disappointed! read more

Margaret, who heads up the wedding cake part of the business, absolutely charmed my mother. She made it clear that our wedding wasn't just one among many, but was a special occasion all on its own. We ordered a beautiful cake consisting of three cubes stacked as tiers (decreasing in size). With a 1" coral ribbon wrapped around the base of the second tier and three pink cabbage roses perched on one of the corners, it was the perfect minimalist cake to complement my venue (Avanti Fountain Place). But let's talk about the taste of this thing... mmmmm. You really have to eat it to believe how good it was, but it's a fun cake to talk about as well. It was a white chocolate cake with a chambord raspberry liqueur and buttercream icing spread between the layers. The entire thing was iced with a thick layer of the same buttercream icing, perfectly preserving the moistness of the cake while my guests waited for the cake cutting. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I ordered a custom birthday cake, it was very expensive plus they charged an extra $100 for custom design. It didn't matter because I wanted it to be special. Well, we realized when we got to the party that they misspelled the name on the cake. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED! It was a custom ordered cake you would think it is special and pay special attention to the details. Especially you charged extra money for it. I immediately notified the store and nothing was done. They did not offer me a discount to compensate their mistakes. I send an email to the owner, no one responded to it. That's Bad customer service. I will never order from them again.
