I have been to Pankey's twice. I brought them a beat up radiator out of a 1939 Packard and they were actually able to repair it without out having to replace the core. Saved me a ton of money, and the radiator was worked great. I also brought them a radiator and surge tank for a 1966 Thunderbird. The had to replace the core on that one, because it was literally falling apart. Once they got it open, they discovered that the transmission cooler (inside the radiator) was rotten. Rather than just jam me with the largest possible bill, they called me to make a money saving suggestion! That's great service! read more

I had a great experience with Pankey's. I couldn't find a replacement radiator for my old 1984 Toyota van, and Pankey's gave my rotten one a recore. They even gave me a random rubber isolator/bushing from their collection to perfectly replace my old broken one. Really nice people, and two wonderful months of no leaks and no more overheating. I brought a leaking 2013 Shelby GT500 Ford Mustang supercharger heat exchanger to Pankey's to repair some pin hole leak damage and I was hoping that it could be repaired at a reasonable price and thus avoid having to go to the Ford Dealer parts department to get a new $1200 heat exchanger. I arrived at Pankey's around 7AM and the technician looked at the GT500 heat exchanger, performed a pressure test on it and informed me that the all aluminum heat exchanger was repairable and that it would be done by noon. To my surprise, the repair was done in two hours and it got a nice black paint job too. I also felt that the repair was reasonably priced. read more

BUYER BEWARE: this shop has changed hands, and the new management is not as good with clients as the new. The original owner passed away less than a month ago, and I had a horrible experience with my recent job. Called 1 week ago, asked how much it would be to rebuild my radiator for my pickup. After giving them all of my specs, they said a rebuild would be $125. Great! Or so I thought... Drove to Hayward from San Francisco bright and early, only to find "Paul" suddenly tell me that the rebuild was now MORE THAN DOUBLE the original price, at $300. I asked him why, and he said "Because we have to put a new core in it." When I ask for a price, I specifically ask if it's soup to nuts, and what these guys did that day was give me a bait and switch. So be careful - ALWAYS get them to commit to a price with EXACTLY what they say they will do, because you might be stuck having driven an hour for one price only to find it's suddenly jumped. Paul gave me the hard sell and the excuse that 'radiators are not like other things'. Well, when someone tells me that they are going to rebuild something at one price, I expect that price. I AM definitely reporting this shop to the California Consumer Affairs Department, and I just hope you don't have to. read more

Stopped by Pankeys to get a repair on the radiator for my 57 chevy belair. It was an easy fix with a dent at the upper hose neck. He pressurized the radiator and popped out the dents on the top and found a small leak. He soldered it up and the radiator was good to go in 2 minutes. Showing me fellow auto parts industry courtesy, he didn't charge me anything altho I would have paid 20-30-40$ happily. When I stripped the radiator drain port of my 24 year old Ferrari, I was so mad at myself. I started preparing mentally for the expense. I'm thinking several thousand dollars for a replacement. I took my Radiator here to have it repaired, was told to come back in two hours to pick it up. Picked up my radiator (paid $125.00) and took it home. I put the radiator back in my vehicle, filled it up and tested it. No leaks! Drove it for one day and my transmission started slipping. Took my vehicle to the shop only to learn that my transmission was full of coolant. Took the radiator back and told them what had happened. Both the manager and owner insisted that it was nothing that they did and now they are refusing to pay to have my transmission repaired. So just a word to the wise, beware of this business! read more

No problems at all with my car. I took it to Speedee Oil Change in Castro Valley for a radiator flush. next thing you know they are telling me I have a radiator LEAK(!!) and need a new radiator!! I would know if I had a leak when I drove it in so I took my car and left. I drove it to Pankey's Radiator Repair in Hayward. I just created a Yelp account for businesses like Pankey's ... I live in San Jose but work in Hayward.. When I got to work I noticed that my car started smoking and I had coolant pouring out of my car... I checked Yelp for Radiator shops in Hayward and saw that Pankey's had 5 stars.. I filled up my radiator with as much water as I could and headed down to Pankeys.. When I arrrived I told the guy there that I was having radiator problems, as soon as I told him my make and model car, he already new what the problem was before he even looked the car.. He was very honest and said I could save money if I repaired it myself. He even explained to me how to do it.. I decided since I was there to just have them fix it.. I picked up my car a few hours later and it ran like new.. Fair price and great service.. I definitely recommend Pankey's !!! read more

In todays throw away society I find it unusual to find a place that repairs anything these days. When was the last time you had your shoes repaired? So much is made in countries with low manufacturing costs and of cheap quality. Its usually cheaper to just thow the old one away and buy a new one. Maybe if you have $1000 dress shoes or an expensive import OEM radiator you start looking at all your options. I had the latter in my Benz. I didnt want to put a cheaply made radiator in and I didnt want to pay for another Bosch radiator as this one was just a year old. The damage from road debris was in a small confined spot and so I went here with my dad as he had been a satisfied customer for many many years. Its refreshing to talk with the repair person directly. You hear everything first hand rather than at Pep Boys or Wheel Works or even amy given dealer where you talk to a salesman. We were told that it wasnt the easiest repair job but that it may be possible to save it. Better more generous service couldnt be given. Because of the uncertainty of the ability to repair we were told that we wouldnt get charged if it couldnt be fixed. The radiator has now been in the car for 3 years. I trust it to go through the Nevada desert even on the hottest days. A business like this is refreshing. Dont hesitate if you need help with your cooling system. read more

The radiator in my 73 Chevy C10 had developed a few large holes. Some mystery piece of metal was apparently near the fan when I fired the engine up and it shot around the radiator. Ugh. I took it down to Pankey's and they patched it while I waited and didn't even charge me for it. Class act! These guys will get all of my business from now on. read more

I'd give 6 stars if I could! I called a few days ago describing my problem and they said no appointment necessary so brought my car in today unannounced and they promptly went to work on it; I'm a curious sort of fellow so I stood by while they worked. I asked questions and Isaias answered every question, explained things to me and was very pleasant (he loves what he does and it shows!). Spent some time talking to Jack and made small talk with a few of the other guys. When it came time to pay, Jack said, "get out of here." While I tried to pay *something*, he flat-out refused! The service, quality of work, and level of professionalism are all terrific. I would have paid double fair market value. You cannot go wrong with these guys. Go! Patronize this great business! I was in a jam when my radiator on my boat had a leak at the drain plug. It snapped clean off. I called Pankeys and they said to bring it down and they would fix it on the spot. I was sceptical.
