Let me start by saying Do Not Get Your Car Serviced at Auto Doctor in San Leandro unless you DON'T want your car repaired, and you enjoy burning your money in a fireplace. During the summer I had my 2004 Honda Element serviced at Auto Doctor. Years back I took my same car to this place and they did a good job on my brakes. At that time this place was under a different owner and different mechanic, as well as the person who runs the front desk. Fast forward this past summer of 2025 the Auto Doctor is now under new ownership and the owner is the mechanic, along with a new girl who runs the front desk named Sandra. Summer of 2025, my air conditioner needed a total repair. Eric, who is the owner/mechanic did the repair on my air conditioner. I had to take a road trip and it was 98 degrees F and my A/C on full blast just got just cold enough to neutralize the cabin but never was totally cold. I took the car back and Eric claims he did the repair totally, and because the age of my car it made sense to him that the A/C wouldn't be as cold as when I bought the car. Hmm, it was super cold before it went out, so the age had nothing to do with it. Eric talked to me like the typical mechanic dealing with an uninformed customer. I came to this place because I needed to save some money, but it wasn't much savings in comparison to a car dealership. I told Eric that I worked for Hendrick Automotive for 6 years, so I definitely got advice from the mechanics there before Eric serviced it. Eric charged me just over $2000 for the A/C service. A month or so later the next repair turned out to be the absolute worst work done on my car from Eric. My car was severely idling up and down while driving it. I took the car to Auto Doctor and Eric claimed to have fixed the issue and charged me $700+. When I came to pick up the car and pay for the repair Sandra informed me that Eric said that my brakes severely needed replacing and that includes the rotors front to back, since they do not resurface rotors. I will continue more about the brakes shortly. After the repair, upon starting the car it always idled up very high before coming down to "normal". Seemed more like patch job from Eric. I continued to drive it since Sandra (the lady running the front desk said I had a 60 or 90 day warranty on service. In December 2025 my car started idling down again while driving like it was going to shut off. I drove it to Auto Doctor and Sandra said that Eric is closing the shop for 2 weeks for Christmas vacation. That's totally unacceptable for a car repair shop to close for that length of time, especially if customers are having post issues with a repair job. I ended up taking my car to San Leandro Honda, as I should've done in the first place. Honda kept the car for 24 hours and called me, informing me that from the previous repair Eric had disconnected my radiator fan and did not re-connect it. Furthermore, Honda took pictures of the spark plugs which were totally fried and one of them was cracked. Honda stated that was what was causing the car to misfire at higher speeds making the car appear to shut down while driving. Why didn't Eric check my spark plugs? Very odd. There was also a specific piece called the Transmission side mount. It needed to be replaced, which is also part of the reason the car was misfiring. Why didn't Eric mention that needed replacing? San Leandro Honda fixed all of that and charged me $1000. The car starts up like it did when I first bought it brand new 21 years ago. It drives perfectly and the engine is very smooth and quiet. So what service did Eric actually do? I asked Sandra if Eric did a patch job on my car and she said no, of course. Let's talk about the brakes. As I mentioned, Sandra said that Eric stated that my brakes needed to be replaced no later than early January to avoid any further damage and the price for repair would be about $600. While getting the other repair done I asked San Leandro Honda to do a brake check. They stated that my brakes are near perfect. The front brake pads were 6mm on the outer and 4mm on the inner, and the rear brakes were 6mm inner and outer. Hmm, Eric lied to me. He tried to swindle me out of a very costly and unneeded brake repair. If a dealership says a repair is not necessary or needed then they are telling the truth, because dealerships have a reputation for charging higher prices and looking for anything wrong with a customer's car to get more business. Eric is a scam artist. Auto Doctor San Leandro is a scam outfit. While Sandra (the lady running the front office) appears to be honest, she is just regurgitating to the customer what Eric tells her, so I will not fault her for that, but I'm certain she knows Eric's tactics. No quality service from Auto Doctor San Leandro. No value if you have to keep brining the car back to get it fixed again for the same problem under 60 days later, then being charged again. Avoid this place, unless you hate your money!! read more

First thing to say about this place is how extremely helpful they were about our 2004 ford expedition they gave us many affordable options and high end options as well. we had a sound we couldn't explain Eric the owner and mechanic took a listen and immediately knew what the problem was. The office manager Sandra kept us updated at all times and informed of any new findings and even gave us suggestions she explained it to us in a way we would understand without any trouble. our car has never run better than it has since we started going to Auto Doctor we've been back for smaller things and will continue to do so in the future we love this place and I think anybody who goes will too . read more

Granted I've only needed them twice, but both times they've come through. The owner Eric is very accommodating and receptive to your problems and will work with you along the way. The Auto Doctor located in San Leandro on Washington is THE BEST PLACE I've come across on this side of the Bay. Most mechanics you visit are very detached and want to get to the bolt of your issue without fully explaining or hearing your issue but not this Auto Service Owner. This review I am Highlighting Eric .. He's very special man who is professional and pleasantly personable. His business has a locked yard for overnight vehicle protection. His front office assistant is a very nice young lady. They are located near shops and restaurants, Pak n Save and BART. My Prius was towed by AAA and dropped with the keys at 11pm outside the closed yard. When I called at there opening time. Eric said, he seen the car. Had the guys push the car in and ran the tests and repaired the issue. I missed very little time from work and was off and running. The cost was a diagnostic charge. No labor charge. Eric is very supportive of your need to be at work so he offers if asked, to do the repair on the weekend when he's closed. That's big for me as a single parent who supports two children alone. This was from a couple months back. My engine was misfiring on one of the cylinders. I took it to another mechanic shop before this and they couldn't figure it out. The other guys replaced spark plugs and cleaned the fuel injectors still the same thing. This place figured it pretty quickly that one of the computer system was stuck at a bad state. I very highly recommend using Auto Doctor of san Leandro, they are extremely honest, patient with customers, helpful, skilled, experienced mechanics, and have top notch customer service. I recently experienced some car problems with my Chrysler 300, initially I took the the car to my local Chrysler Dealer for repairs which took 8 days to have the fuel pump replaced and was extremely expensive Charging $220 an hour. About 4 Days after the car was returned to us we started experiencing some electrical problems with the car. After a less than desirable experience at the dealer we decided to start a search for local mechanic. After an extensive Internet search and reading some Yelp reviews we found the Auto Doctor San Leandro so I called them and I spoke to Eric the owner who was also bilingual and able to speak to me in Spanish, he was very careful to listen to my concerns, and patient in his explanation and after our conversation I felt very comfortable and decided to use Eric for the repairs.They were able to make the repairs to the dash cluster and the bill was very fair and reasonable. Eric actually drove to pick me up when my car was ready and took all the time necessary to review all of the electrical systems to ensure that everything was working correctly and that I was satisfied with the repairs. Terry charged me 200 bucks to fix the noise my engine was making. He did not call me back for over a week on a repair that was supposed to take a day. I had to actually walk into his office and confront him. He did not fix the noise but fixed another still functioning part and proceeded to try to charge me 200 bucks. I said this is unacceptable. He said he would remove the part and I would have the car back then. Almost another week later or two days past his repair date he does not call. I come back and he said I will have to pay the 200 or he's keeping my CAR! He made a mistake and wanted me to pay for it, pure and simple. Already contacted The Bureau of Automotive Repairs. Years ago, he would forget, he tried to charge me 800 bucks to replace a fuel pump. The part cost 100 and I paid a friend 100 to put it in. That's a deal, I know, but 700 on markup and labor is madness. It's one thing to be dog eat dog and out for money. It's another thing to lie to a mans face, break a deal, and steal from him. I honestly don't know how he stays in business if this is how he treats a random customer who chanced in on a regretful whim. Beware. read more

I am not a customer, nor do I expect to be in the near future; but let me explain why I feel compelled to write this positive review of the Auto Doctor in San Leandro. I owned a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, which my wife drove for more than 12 years, it was a wonderful car. I did all my own work on the car and over the course of the time we owned the car, I was able to fix any little problems it had. I don't really trust dealers and so the times I was not able fix the more major issues, I would take it to a little one man shop, Plaza Auto Repair in Redwood City, owned by a good friend. I tried, over the course of about two years, to convince my wife that we should invest in a newer car. So finally I put the car on the market, and a really nice lady from San Ramon bought it, which made me happy because my wife had loved the car for so long and now it was going to a good home. This sounds like a happy ending but it was just the beginning of a nightmare. This nice lady called me after driving the car just two days to say the the Instrument panel was going crazy, Gages were flashing on then off. and the indicators were just acting weird, but it was not all the time, sometimes the car was perfectly fine. So she drove it to her mechanic to check out, and they saw there was a problem which they tried to fix. In the meantime this nice lady called me several times, just to see if I knew what it could be. I thought about it and then remembered that the last people to work on the car were the Boardwalk Jeep service people in Redwood City. The car was under a recall for the Airbag Control module, which had to be replaced with an updated version. So I called over to Boardwalk to see if this new module may be causing the issues with the instrument panel. And of course they said "couldn't be our fault" not very helpful, which is why I don't care much for dealer service. By this time the first mechanic felt the problem was beyond their expertise, so the car was moved to the Auto Doctor, who was highly recommended, for good reason. Terry, at the Auto Doctor analyzed the problem and was able to find it quickly. It turned out to be a loose ground in the area of the Airbag Control Module, coincidence, maybe. And now the nice lady finally has her reliable car, and if she stays away from the dealers, and takes her car to the Auto Doctor with any problems, she will live happily ever after. read more

Love this place ! After being ripped off by many mechanics for the simple fact I am a woman who knows nothing really about cars I was skeptical to come here .. But the estimates I was given and the friendliness of the employees had me give them a shot ! The office clerk Sabrina was super friendly and easy to get along with right off the bat, then after speaking with terry I felt like he was a trustworthy honest man and turned out he was !! I left there not paying a penny !! Daughters check engine light had been coming on, had taken it to a few mechanics who one threw a piece of duct tape on something and told us if the car hesitated to start just give it more gas.. Weeks went by and the problem continues getting worse ! Stopped in auto doctor and he popped the hood, ran the check engine coder and took him less than 5 minutes to see there was a hose that wasn't connected !! Wow !! Can't believe the other 2 places we took it too missed this hose right out in the open not connected !!!! Have not had one issue since ! Check engine light has not come back on!! The Auto Doctor is a fantastic auto shop overall. Terry, the owner, works the desk and deals with his customers face to face. He and his team are very honest and excellent at what they do, which is hard to say for a lot of auto shops out there. When your car is returned, the problem is always 100% fixed and Terry usually sees to it that any other problematic areas are brought to your attention. A couple of downsides to the Auto Doctor is its expensiveness and how long they take with simple jobs. The estimated time they give you is always shorter than the actual time it takes them to get the job done, probably due to their popularity, and the wait is often frustrating. read more

My 13-year old car broke down on 880 and AAA recommended this auto repair shop. My car was towed to the Auto Doctor and the owner told me it would take a few hours to look at the car as he was busy. After a few hours, he gave me the bad news. The water pump had exploded, there were other problems with the car and the cost to repair exceeded the value of my old car. I told him that I was going to give the car away to charity and if I could house the car at his shop until I could get someone to pick up the vehicle over the next few days.
