Let me first start out by saying I love gas station fried chicken. So when I stumbled upon Pantry inside the gas station, I knew it was a hit. I was a bit concerned when it moved to a brick and mortar, because sometimes that does change the quality of the food, just know that it is not the case here. I went at 9:40. I didn't realize they closed at 10, but the staff was super accommodating and we're working really hard to get the remainder of the orders out. There were about five people waiting when I arrived and placed my order. I'm always nervous ordering during closing because sometimes the food isn't fresh but mine was great. The chicken tenders were hot. The potato wedges were hot and everything tasted extremely fresh. The staff was focused on completing orders, but I also noticed that they were very clean and were cleaning up behind themselves as they went. I liked that. I definitely will be visiting again and glad that one of my favorites remains my favorite ! read more

I had the chicken a number of times at the other 2 locations, both in convenience stores. This is the first stand alone spot, located in the spot which housed Beef Burger for so many years. The interior has been modernized a bit, with a clean dinning area. There is no table service, but rather a cafeteria style line. They do everything chicken - wings, quarters, livers, gizzards, and a great chicken sandwich deluxe. They also offer pork chops , corn dogs, and fried fish as well. Sides include fried okra, potato wedges, collards, mashed potatoes, and cole slaw. This is very good food - I've tried almost everything except the pork chop, will get there soon on that. I ordered a 3 piece added a side, sides were coleslaw which was tasty, rich and creamy. Fried okra, was fried and seasoned well and portioned. For me not the best post workout after the gym but cheat days are needed. I give you guys a 5 for food, service there isn't a server. When you walk in, you will see the food display. The menu is above it. They had chicken quarter/legs, huge legs, wings and chicken tenders. I saw potato wedges, slaw, rolls and okra. I wanted to try a variety of things so I got wings, tenders, quarter leg, wedges, okra and slaw. The prices were very reasonable. The chicken was hot when I got home...about 13-15 mins away. It was seasoned pretty well. They offered sauce but I declined. Maybe in my next visit, I will try some. I didn't need much more than hot sauce. The wedges were really good. The okra was tasty. The chicken tenders are huge and very tender. If you need chicken for an event, you should try them. They offer large boxes. The one thing I regret was not getting a dessert. We first learned about Pantry during Covid. A coworker shared this was his favorite place for takeout. We gave it a try and were hooked! We always got the $25 meal with 4 drinks. One day we went to order and we saw pantry was unavailable. We were so sad. We were so excited to see that not only was Pantry back, but it's in Greensboro on gate city near UNCG! We decided this was the night to check it out. They are in the old Timmy's location (their chicken was just toooo hot ) which previously was the Beef Burger location. It is like with each new owner the restaurant gets more and more updated! Inside it was clean, and bright. We were so excited to see even more menu options. Sandwiches! Corn dogs! Fish! But we got our old standby of the 3 breasts, 3 legs, large wedges and 4 drinks. There are on 2 of us so we got the 4 lemonades with no ice. We got it to go, and oh my goodness it was the best Pantry has ever been! Such good fried chicken. we didn't get dessert but the cakes looked good! Some of the best fried chicken. I seen a couple people I follow on social media and they had high expectations for this restaurant. So we had to try and they were right. It was beyond delicious. We ordered 4 drumsticks with potatoes wages, dinner roll and a drink combo. Separately we tried the pork chop and a piece of fish. Fish was very good not a fishy taste. Everything was delicious, very well seasoned and fresh. I also got a slice of the lemon cake but they do have other cakes to choose from. So gave this place a try. Probably not going back. Stood there waiting to place my order, and felt ignored. 3 men were working, you'd think one of them would say "I'll be right with you ma'am". So after waiting a few minutes at the counter, one of the guys finally came over, very dry. He seemed to be annoyed while I was trying to figure out my drink choice as I don't drink sodas, and that seemed to be all they had aside from tea, which I was actually on a fast from. So I decided on lemonade, which was pretty good. Getting back to the food. The food was piping hot, the wedges were great, but the wings should've been fried a little bit more. They were too soft which made the chicken a little mushy. If I decide to go back, I'll ask that they fry my wings hard so there will be some kind of skin or crust on them. I actually thought this place was rather decent until my most recent experience. I'm having a hard time understanding why I can't get what I was willing to pay and wait for. The lady at the register took note that I didn't mind waiting for fresh chicken out the grease since I didn't want to pay for the chicken that's been sitting around. White meat that sits usually gets tough under the hot lights. She said fine, that's no problem. The tall manager heard my request to her but he disregarded my request and fixed my plate anyway. I told him my request and he talked over me and stated that it's no way you'll wait, chicken takes 40 mins to cook! (Stern aggressive tone). I've had my share of cooking for years, chicken does not take 40'mins to cook. Mind you, it's was chicken frying up as we spoke. He shoved me my plate and didn't give me any other choice. I paid! He acted as if I begged for free food & I had time to get what I paid for. What if I wanted to wait the 40 mins? He didn't even bother to give me that option. Never returning to this establishment!!
