Placed an order tonight for a meatball sub and another sandwich. 2 meals for a family meal. Drove over to pick it up only to find out when I arrived home that the order was wrong. Received a salad instead. Called to let them know that I had the wrong order. Alot of silence on the phone line? Had the receipt to show this. They said they would make another, so we drove over to pick it up again. My complaint about Papa Al's is that we had to drive over again to pick up the meal - no compensation and the other meal sitting at home sat and got cold. That is purely not a good business practice. We have decided to do a family pizza challenge this summer where we try a variety of pizza places in home state or in our travels as a fun experience since one thing we all enjoy is: PIZZA......And why not try to branch out from our favorite places and perhaps find some others we might like! First up was Papa Al's in our home town, Newtown, since it is one we have not had a chance to try yet. It is conveniently located a few minutes off exit 9 on 84 and in a newer shopping plaza with ample parking. The inside is modern, clean, and nicely decorated for people to sit down to eat or to take out. Today when we went, they had 6 different pizzas out to grab a slice from and a large menu of many Italian items. We ordered three different pizzas- plain cheese because we always have to sample the basics first and two specialty pies- lasagna pizza and the fra Diablo which had hot peppers and sausage on it. They have a variety of good looking pre- packaged desserts and the chocolate mousse caught one of my son's eyes. All the pizzas were great. Solid cheese pizza- good sauce, lots of cheese, and crust was crispy with medium thickness. The lasagna pizza was very well received by the family. Husband is all about the spice and found the fra diablo pizza delivered this without going overboard on heat. The first round of the summer pizza challenge was a good one! Papa Al's being in Newtown will be one we definitely come back to. Much more of the menu we would like to try! read more

Papa Al's was a very unexpected surprise. It is located conveniently a few minutes from my house. Plenty of parking in the front and in the lot. It is located not far from exit 9 on 84. The inside has beautiful decor and some nice paintings. The pizza is what really surprised me. It is probably some of the best Connecticut pizza I have eaten. We got a half regular half Florentine. The regular had some great sauce and cheese. It could give some of the places in New York a run for their money. The Florentine was put together nicely and tasted great. I really enjoyed the ricotta. I may have already found my new pizza spot on the first try. Five stars! read more

The food is outstanding, The pizza is always perfectly cooked. The crust is absolutely delicious. It's a little greasy but nothing a napkin can't fix. The meatball grinder is amazing, as is the penna a la vodka!! This food definitely beats Franco's!! It's 110% better!! Some things are a little bit more expensive than other places, but quality food is worth the extra $0.50 - $1.00 & in my opinion is's 100% worth it. Also the strawberry cheesecake is to die for but I do recommend asking for extra strawberry sauce because it's delicious and I like my cheesecake covered The service is always fantastic, The waitresses are always very friendly whether you're picking up or eating in. They are always very prompt. They are very respectful and accommodating. Really when it comes to the service I cannot come up with one bad thing to say about it. The ambiance is what you would expect from a pizza restaurant, perfect! The lighting is good, It's just an incredibly perfect place to order pizza from in all of Newtown, bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, And Monroe, all combined! Whwn a very strange thing happened with our pizza ONE time and the owner gave us a free pizza for it later after I told him about what happened. So if anything ever happens, the owner is very accommodating. And we'll do everything in his power to fix it. If you have yet to try Papa Al's Pizza you are definitely missing out and I highly recommend you give it a shot, you will never go back to any other pizza restaurant ever ever again. Papa Al's has the best pizza in this area. To start, their dough is top notch and their pizza has a great crust. They also use top notch ingredients as far as toppings and cheese go so the finished product is nothing short of perfection. i have tried a couple of the subs which are also great, as are the salads and entrees i have tried. The service is good too, it is a family run place and no matter how busy it is they seem to always have a second say hello, I would highly recommend Papa Al's. read more

Absolutely great place to stop off of the highway if traveling through. Great garlic knots and thin crust pizza if looking for a few slices, and sick of fast food. Friendly staff. For us, the best pizza in Brookfield. Always so fresh and good. We would go every week without fail for the past 7 years. The staff is always so nice and personable. My son is very picky when it comes to his pizza-this is by far, is his favorite. We moved about 25 minutes away, and we still talk about their pizza. So this is our go to place for consistent eggplant and chicken parm and grilled chicken salad. Food is good, consistent, and satisfies and portions are generous. Their bread is tasty and never soggy in their heroes. Their salads are made of good greens, carrots, onions and beautiful array of colors. Rice pudding is solid, and tiramisu although creamy could use a little more coffee in it. Pizza isn't bad, not our fave but their dinners, always hit the spot. It's more of a 3.5. The taste was good. People saying it's close to NY people clearly are From upstate. They cut it super weird so you had giant slices and little baby slices. They advertise that if you pay in cash you get a discount. I paid in cash and received NO discount. Called last night and they delivered in a snow storm, and in less than the hour quoted. We loved the Fra Diavolo pizza, which was a combo I've never heard of before but I loved. The pizza was tasty and loaded with toppings, making it a great deal for the price. We both loved the buffalo chicken salad and the small was more than enough for the two of us as an app. I was craving soup so I also ordered a cup of Pasta Fagioli. The soup was ok but not a typical Italian version. It tasted a bit more like minestrone, not bad, just not what I expected. For dessert, I ordered the bread pudding. It was fresh, tasted homemade and reminded me of one of my favorite desserts as a kid. I needed to get my sister some prepared food because she was injured. I called one place who would not deliver in the snow, but then, I called Papa Al's Pizza! YAY! I ordered her double cheeseburger with bacon, order of fries, order of onion rings, salad, coke and a slice of Chocolate Molten Lava cake to be delivered to her home. Well, Papa Al's came through! Here I am, back in Newtown for Thanksgiving break, and drunk me wanted Sicilian pizza. Before I even knew it, a delicious, succulent pizza had been delivered at my parents' doorstep, and I gladly helped myself to multiple juicy slices. "Where did you guys get this?" I asked. "Papa Al's," they replied. "But... that doesn't make any sense," I said. "I lived here for 25 years. Papa Al's sucks. Papa Al's has always sucked." ALAS, guys. It has been awhile since I've ordered from this restaurant and I was really pleasantly surprised. We ordered 2 pasta dishes, Mediterranean and Prima Vera along with a house salad and garlic bread. They asked name and kept saying the wrong name, so we spelled it for them.Shouldn't be to hard with a 4 letter name. Went to pick up food at the time they said and couldn't find order. Business must be good for the service to be so rude. Since we're in the middle of a pandemic, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask to pay by credit card and request a curbside pick-up, but the folks at Papa Al's disagree. When I arrived well before peak hours to pick up my order, I called to let them know I was out front. The young woman with whom I spoke told me I could come in, but I told her I preferred to pay by phone and have the food brought out, which is standard procedure these days. She huffed audibly and grudgingly obliged, but not before making me repeat my card number several times for good measure and curtly adding that I'd still need to sign, which is not required, and which I would not do. When she brought the delivery out to my car, she said, "Just so you know, honey"--even though I'm probably twice her age--"we're trying to get back to normal by having people come inside." I sure hope the virus knows that and waits by the State Farm office next door. This unpleasant exchange has done nothing to put me at ease about going into such a small venue, and now I won't be ordering take-out, either. Absolutely horrible customer service. Whoever answers their telephone was completely unprofessional and rude when I tried to call in an order. She said to me "honey I don't make the rules" when I asked why they couldn't boil my daughter rigatoni (which they have in house) but they refused to make. I then asked for a manager to try to explain that we were missing items from our last order that we PAID FOR because she was so terrible and he wouldn't even come to the phone. Papa Al's Pizza is right around the corner from me. They are convenient for my family. Almost every time I order from them however, they mess up my order. The other day I ordered honey BBQ wings. Do you know what I got? I got the spiciest wings from Satan's kitchen. I have a low tolerance for spicy obviously and that's a me problem. EXCEPT, when I order food I expect that order to be correct. It's like getting a burger rare when you ordered it well-done. It's inedible to the individual.
