I brought my empty stomach this time, so looking forward to indulging myself with perhaps the breakfast sandwich I had last time, it was exceptional. So you can imagine my shock when I saw that the truck was GONE! Oh no I thought, but wait, it was fourth of July weekend, maybe they had a gig somewhere else? Although all events had been cancelled, so maybe they were just cleaning it or emptying the tanks.......either way, I was hungry and there was no where else to go. Monday rolls around, and I drive by again, with cautious optimism. And behold! The Hangry house is back, just like that. But NOT open. So I'm thinking, well maybe they aren't open on Monday. Yes that's it, lots of places aren't open on Monday...... Tuesday, and I'm hungry again, figured I check it out one more time. CLOSED again, why am I surprised? Why do I keep trying? I will admit that I plan to continue this quest indefinitely, one day they will be open again, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Expect to be greeted with a hearty "What can I get you, darlin'" or something similar. Because they have so many options, you will be talking to Shona or her right hand gal for awhile. And they are so patient asking all the questions and waiting while you make a choice. The covered dining area is spic and span. They work hard to keep it neat with picnic tables covered in cheery red and white. There is even a table for the kids, so cute! The first time we were there, I settled on a Philly cheesesteak with coleslaw. OMG, that cheesesteak was so full of perfectly grilled beef and gooey cheese, peppers and onions, fresh bun too. They give you an entire pint of cole slaw! I was still eating it four days later when we returned after camping. This was a really fine slaw too --- clearly homemade and not drowning in mayo, just a touch to keep it together. The second time we visited, I had a nice basic grilled pepper jack cheese sandwich that had a fine crunch and a good amount of cheese. Grill marks = yes, please! Hubby ordered a hamburger with a fried egg with fries. Tasty, filling and juicy! Club sandwich with chili on second visit. Lots of meat and award-winning chili worked for him! Couple of reasons I dropped a star. The provided outhouse was a little messy. Secondly, was the fries were surprisingly soggy. I even ordered extra crispy with my grilled cheese, and they were still limp. Shona asked me if they were crispy enough (very kind to check, don't you think?). I just didn't have the heart to say "No." Those folks are so nice! I just couldn't. It was so shocking because otherwise, both meals were perfect. It is a mystery. In summary, if you happen to be in Chiloquin area, stop by The Burger Shack. You would be hard pressed to find a friendlier staff or better casual dining options that taste soooo good. The service was very friendly and she brought the food right out to the car (no roller skates though, bummer. LOL). I like that they are expanding their menu with more vegetarian options, and treats for dogs (it is right across the street from the dog park), and that they are very easy with substitutions. Our hotel did not have any food, and the nearby breakfast place had no gluten free choices. The Klamath grill only had a few tables occupied on this quiet Tuesday morning, and we were seated right away. No coffee because we were going to be on the road soon, we ordered our breakfasts immediately. I chose the frittata which had ground beef spinach onions and eggs with a little Parmesan cheese on top. I really like the way the meat was browned and seasoned before they put it into the frittata. It was an excellent dish. They were perfectly happy to substitute fruit for me, since I cannot eat the potato or bread sides. It was a huge and lovely fruit plate, much appreciated and no upcharge!
