I got the dark meet bbq chicken and it tasted very lemon peppery which wasn't bad. The chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. I also got green beans, sweet potato soufflé and fried corn. Everything was cooked well, the sweet potatoes had like brown sugar cinnamon something on it and made it really sweet but it was toasty at top so gave it a nice crunch. The corn was so good but I do hate cob cuz it gets stuck in my teeth. If I'm ever around, I'd def go again.

The price point here is superb. $26 bought two trays-- chopped pork with sides of coleslaw and mac 'n cheese, a rib plate (4 bones) with sides of baked and green beans, a sausage link, and two cans of diet Pepsi. The mac 'n cheese, which is an in-house recipe, is one of the ten best that we have so far found in BBQ circles nationwide (346 stops in 35 states) . The coleslaw is neutral, making it ideal to cleanse the palate as you move between different meats. We also liked the beans, especially the green beans. The sausage link had good snap and flavor. and the in-house vinegar sauce really brought the pork to life, but our meat of choice here would be the ribs. Beautifully prepared, with a clean bite and a tasty rub and light sauce, they are simply delicious. So, we strongly recommend that you make the effort to get here ... but go early! However, their bottled vinegar sauce did add an extra oopmh, that I would still recommend adding. Their mac and cheese made with penne pasta was also very good. The pasta was a little overcooked to my taste but I still enjoyed it. It was creamy and packed with cheese. I could eat this every day. I have to admit being a native NC resident from Lexington, so I have a stubborn bias. I didn't try very hard ever to like Eastern NC BBQ and have discovered it is the fault solely of the white slaw! Sunday the 17th I stopped in Lumberton and bought a chopped sandwich with the slaw on the side, order number 110 at 12:21. The slaw on it's own merit was tasty. I don't have a weird bias against white slaw, but it belongs with seafood only! such as paired with a platter of fried shrimp and oysters, maybe flounder too! So I still had a nice hot sandwich of BBQ pork chopped with no slaw, (red slaw is acceptable and preferred as a matter of fact) riding down the highway on the way home. Let me tell you I was impressed, pleased, happy, and converted! I am now a believer in Eastern NC BBQ. Now, I still prefer Lexington, (or sometimes called Western NC style) but I can say as long as that white slaw is left off then I am good to go and up for a sandwich of Eastern style. It had the slightly vinegar taste I expected, some decent smoke flavor, and a nice bit of peppery taste. My only complaint is the price was pretty steep at almost $7 with tax for a BBQ sandwich.
