Great ice cream w/ fresh waffle cones and super welcoming and friendly owner. It's a great hangout where u can get to know the owner and really make it a hangout at a friends rather than just going to a restaurant. The owner makes the waffles herself, we happened to get one of the fresh ones when we were there, I assume the rest were made earlier in the day. She puts a marshmallow in the bottom of the cone so the ice cream doesn't leak out the bottom, very nice touch. Ice Cream is from Karen's Kreamery, she gets new flavors on Thursdays she said. When we were there, we went twice, and the Ube is, wow just so wow, you have to try it and get it. The monster was nice for those that want cookies on cookies, and then put it on a cookie sandwich to make it even more cookies lol. We took our kids here to get a treat after dinner, I wish their hours were a little later in the evening though, but we made it shortly before they closed. My kids each got a scoop of ice cream in a cone, I like that they have different cone options available and so did my kids as both of them selected a different cone type. My husband got two scoops in a bowl (Monster Cookie ice cream) as they were out of the waffle cones by the time we arrived, and I got a sandwich cookie (Dogers Delilght ice cream). I also got a small thing of pumpkin praline ice cream to take home. The pumpkin ice cream taste like someone took a pumpkin roll and turned it into ice cream, it is so good. The ice cream was so good and I love the handmade cookies they use for the ice cream sandwiches they are soft, delicious and loaded full of chocolate chips. They also offer sugar cookies instead if you prefer. The woman working the day we were there was so sweet, kind and fantastic to talk with. Customer service is fantastic here and I like how clean the little shop was, how much seating they have outside and the over all look on this place. We love some good ice cream and Papa Ed's has been on our need to try list for a while. We went on a Saturday around noon and there were quite a few people walking around all the shops and neighborhood. The ice cream shop is behind the first building tucked in the back. It's beautiful. There's tables to sit at and plenty of shade. They were letting in one family at a time which is great so we sat and waited our turn. Upon walking in its small and cute. There is about 10 or so different flavors to choose from. We got a strawberry and vanilla bean in a waffle cone and then a cup of monster cookie and a cup of mint chip. There was also a coupon for a first time Yelp check in which we used. Only $12 for it all! The flavors of ice cream had seriously the perfect balance of flavor and creaminess. The hubs said the strawberry ice cream was the best he's ever had. It was perfect blend of strawberry and cream. So good. The kids loved the monster cookie which had chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough and Oreo. The mint chip had the perfect amount of mint flavor, not too powerful and lots of mini chocolate chips. Overall, probably some of the best ice cream we have ever had to date and friendly employees. We love supporting small local businesses and hubs already tried to go a second time on Sunday only to realize they were closed Sunday. I'm sure we will be stopping in again this week! read more

It took me a year to get here and I'm about 12 miles away. I love that they make their ice cream and the neighborhood is so darn charming it's hard to resist. I tried a few (that's an option) and fell in love with the honey lavender. They didn't have enough for a full serving so I opted for the Açaí Bowl and a baby scoop of the honey lavender... I know that may sound weird but that ice cream is the BOMB! You must try it. It's very affordable and the gals were friendly other than they didn't know where more of the ice cream was when they were out of certain flavors. The garden is so sweet. Located a couple blocks from downtown, in the backyard of a row of older homes, this place is cool. I'm guessing from the daily menu of flavors that they're not always the same. We tried a few different flavors, Monster Cookie, Mint Chocolate Chip, Strawberry and Chocolate. All were amazing. Now I chose to have my selection, Monster Cookie, in a waffle cone. They make the waffle cones on site. Now I've had waffle cones at many places. This was the best I've had. It wasn't cracked, it didn't crack and break apart, it didn't leak. Perfection. Seriously. We had the pumpkin pie ice cream pie. It was very good and had an Oreo crust. The pumpkin pie flavor was light and not overpowering. There were little pieces of chocolate chips inside. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of it. However, it didn't look anything out of the ordinary, so it's not too much of a loss to not have taken a photo. If I remember correctly, the pumpkin pie ice cream was a light tan color while the Oreo crust was black. I remember the Oreo crust well. The ice cream itself was sweet and uniform except for the little pieces of chocolate chips that were inside. The pie is frozen and needs to be defrosted before being cut into slices for serving. The slices came out really cute once cut. I enjoyed the flavor and would be interested in trying one of the other flavors that are available. The peppermint candy chip, Mrs. claus cookie, and the blueberry churro sound interesting. Especially, if the blueberry just has the flavor and not whole chunks of blueberry in it. The same with the peppermint candy chip, if it just has the flavor and not chunks of peppermint candy in it. Some of the other flavors seem quite unique, such as the lemon lavender. I had that flavor before at a bakery and in their version, I could taste primarily the lemon and then an after taste of lavender. read more

Who knew that in downtown historic Glendale, there lived the most adorable little locally owned ice cream parlor called Papa Ed's? I didn't... until today! I made the thirty minute drive to Glendale from Old Town this afternoon for a meeting and was lucky enough to get a tour of some of the cutest businesses around town. Papa Ed's was one of them... My friend Danica walked me inside and introduced me Linda, the owner. For those that aren't lucky enough to have their private tour guide like I was, Papa Ed's is tucked behind the Country Maiden house turned retail store (which happens to be yet another adorable Glendale business that I will review in due time as well). Papa Ed's carries both Shamrock Farms and Dreyer's ice cream... it reminds me of a smaller, more local "Ben and Jerry's" kind of place. It's bright, colorful and welcoming... While I passed on getting an ice cream today, I did take advantage of their outdoor seating; you see, I had a conference call smack dab in the middle of the afternoon. It was fun to see people go in and out with their ice cream treats. There's also plenty of beautiful landscaping right outside their door. It was a cookies and cream type ice cream with something else mixed in. $4.50 and I was out the door. The ice cream was pretty good! Nice and rich and incredibly smooth. Tons of cookie pieces throughout. The only reason for 4 stars was the lack of variety. As others have said, most of their flavors were regular Dryers brand and they only had 3-4 selections of "good stuff". The building is cool, and the service was excellent. She mentioned they were going to have some sort of chocolate one which I was very happy to hear. It's set up behind a cute little house and has a creative outside seating area with beautiful flowers and other interesting installments. However, my ice cream experience there was not as great. I went in with a friend on a weekday afternoon to satisfy my sweet tooth craving. I initially sampled the cappuccino flavor, but found it to be a bit tasteless and somewhat freezer burned. I then sampled the monster cookie flavor and settled on that for the day. I grabbed 1 scoop on a sugar cone and was satisfied with the ice cream, but felt like it was pretty average in terms of taste and texture. When I checked in at Papa Ed's on Yelp, a 20% off coupon popped up. However, the person behind the counter seemed really taken aback by it which made me feel slightly ill at ease. I wanted to use the coupon, but at the same time, I didn't really want the 20% off if it was going to cause too much grief. Overall, I love the location, but the ice cream itself left much to be desired in terms of flavor. I would be down to going back and trying the cold brew or some of the other treats, but I have to say this is not my go to place for ice cream. read more

On a visit to Glendale this week I remembered a friend tell me about this cute ice cream shop they thought my kids might like. Right when we pulled up I knew they would. Visible from the street was a cute sign with ice-cream cones painted on the sidewalk to light your way. Walk a little further and run into A flower garden made out of an old bed and tub. When we went they were out of a lot of flavors due to a late delivery, but we were still able to get something we enjoyed. My son and I wanted a special treat. We decided to try somewhere new. We decided to try papa Ed's and I'm so thankful that we did! It's located in the cute historical looking part of Glendale. We moved here recently so we're still exploring and learning. You walk down the sidewalk to the entrance and then follow these cute different colored ice cream cone paintings to this cute little building. It's super kid friendly, kids picnic table, some toys and balls, etc. when you walk inside there's a cute little bench with a wooden cutout of a boy, a girl and a dog eating ice cream. It's super cute! The prices weren't as high as I thought they might be. We were greeted by a kind young lady who seemed cheerful and happy to be at work. My son wanted chocolate in a waffle cone because that's his favorite right now. I wanted to try something different. They give samples so I got a sample of the blueberry ice cream that they make with fresh blueberries. It was subtle but it tasted like fresh blueberries, not the stuff from the can but fresh blueberries. It was tart, creamy, smooth with a kiss of sweetness. I also tried the monster mash which was Oreo and cookie dough and it was really good! I can't wait to go back and try more! Also, the waffle cones I'm pretty sure where homemade and they were epic! At first when you get out you may be confused because the building doesn't say ice cream shop! But there is a small sign/walkway that says "ice cream this way" It takes you on a small path behind the building into a garden/backyard where you can find the delicious ice cream shop. It's very clean inside and organized. They have tons of different flavors to choose from. My favorite part about this ice cream shop is that the police station is near by and you can actually buy a police dog stuffed animal and with the police dogs photo on it! It's pretty epic! I decided to go with the strawberry ice cream! I added a few sprinkles on top and I have to say it was a pretty damn good ice cream! I overall rate my experience a 5 star. The only downfall is just the parking. You may have to walk a little bit of ways to reach it but it's worth it. read more
