I will argue that this unassuming pizzeria in a mini-strip mall adjacent to a Waffle House and gas station is... mayhaps the best NYC-style place in the WF? It's the dough. Other places just haven't quite got it right. It's always just a little too chewy/gummy and then you're just eating chewy/gummy cheese on chewy/gummy bread. Looks like Johnny's has gone the way of the rest of the eating establishments around here hiring people who can not cook authentic delicious pizza. It's filling, but that isn't why we eat pizza. The wait time on a Friday evening was about 30 minutes (same as mentioned when ordering) which is inline with other local pizza shops during that time of day. When I picked up the pizza, a lady greeted me with a hello and a nice smile, can't overlook that nowadays! My wife and I had the Margherita pizza and my son had the cheese. The Margherita was very good. I figured I'd like it, but was a bit surprised how much I'd like it. Thin crust. If you like olive oil and garlic, like I do, you'll appreciate it on this pizza. I think they enhance everything else on the pizza. They are pronounced, but not overpowering. The pizza was not greasy, with the ingredients (fresh spinach, onion, tomatoes) very fresh tasting. The crust was ok, not special, not bad at all, but the toppings definitely made up for it. I think some additional flavoring from yeast would have helped the crust. My wife also really liked the flavor of the pizza. We'll definitely put this on repeat in a future order. My son thought the cheese pizza was good, similar to other pizza restaurants in the area that are not large chain types. Overall, I'm glad I took a chance and now have yet another option for pizza in Wake Forest. I'll be back!

It's a family-owned and operated spot, with all the standards on the menu. Everything is served piping hot, in generous portions. Service is great - you feel like family. Food is always on-point. Pasta cooked just right - never mushy. Sauces sweet and balanced. Crust is crispy. Cheese is fresh and perfect melted. Is this a gourmet, white-tablecloth fru-fru Italian fusion restaurant? No. But it is a solid neighborhood spot deliciously serving traditional favorites in a friendly atmosphere.
