What a gem. My wife and I were traveling to Mckinnleyville and came across this amazing eatery. At first we were drawn in my the vibe, just as wild as the lost coast. Inside did not disappoint, several different seating areas, all well decked out for different ambiance. Even though it was a packed Vakentines day, and we had no reservations were seated immediately, and the service seemed to be waiting for us. We sat at the huge, live edge red wood bar so we could enjoy the free live music, Angela and Co. killed it. The Valentines day prefix, lasagna with truffle salad and flour less cake looked amazing, but since we only had the one night, we decided on the food that put Papa Wheelies on the map. I had the basic burger, the Eel River Grass Feed beef burger, and it did not let me down. As soon as the beef hit the grill I could smell the quality. Perfectly prepared with sublime execution, just enough of all the right flavors. I can not recall ever having a better burger that I did not make myself. My wife had the Brie Burger that was voted best in Humboldt County, amd we found out why. Same grass fed beef, but cover in brie, chopped bacon and jalapeño pepper jelly. Perfectly seared, just enough pink for a flavor that exploded in your mouth. I have to mention here, that I hate messy burgers, that fall apart and get all over you. Well not at Papa Wheelies. Despite all those toppings is some how stayed together until the very last bite. We were pretty stuffed, but the band played on and the atmosphere was infectious. The menu had seemed sparce at first, but as I looked I relealized that it rambles all around the room, with hidden specials in every corner. In one we discovered the Poutine, made with real cheese curds and LOCAL mushroom gravy, amsntheirbf amousnhandncut fried, we just had to. In the end it was a bridge to far and we had to take most of it to go, but now I can't wait to eat it cold tomorrow. On our way to the airport, found this little bar. It's got personality with funky decor and board games to enjoy. Staff were friendly, limited indoor seating, but plenty patio. It's a bar, so caters to drinks rather than a food menu. The menu was basic with hamburgers ($17), chicken sandwiches (($18), tuna melt, and a few more, and it's a bit pricey. Dishes do not come with fries, that is a separate order ($6), The fries were too greasy for our liking, but the burger and sandwich hit the spot. Eventually I was able to let her know I had a call in and she said it was almost ready. Really enjoyed the fries. The big burger fan of the house found his cheeseburger yummy after we scraped off the mayo and other toppings (I ordered it plain specifying just meat/cheese/bun - FYI) . I had been looking forward to visiting based on the positive reviews, but my experience yesterday evening fell far short of expectations. While the beer, decor, and patio atmosphere were genuinely enjoyable, the customer service was deeply troubling. I received an incorrect burger containing ingredients I am allergic to. When I brought this to the cashier's attention, she insisted I had ordered it that way and was reluctant to have it remade. Additionally, when our chicken wings were ready the cook pointed out they had no cheese -- an unnecessary comment, adding to an already frustrating evening. I noticed a clear difference in how my wife and I were treated. The cashier apologized to my wife -- but not to me. As a Black man dining with my white wife, the difference in treatment was unmistakable and made us feel unwelcome. No effort was made to make things right or invite us to return. We immediately paid our bill and left. I sincerely hope management addresses these service and conduct issues with staff. read more

Wow! Super cool place! Tight quarters, but plenty of seating outside. The Jeezy sandwich brought me in. Holy smokes! What an amazing sandwich! The flavors were incredible. I don't have a sophisticated palate, but there are times when whatever I'm eating is so delicious, I can't stop shoving it in my mouth. Like an animal-style cheeseburger at In-N-Out, the Jeezy is an amalgamation of my favorite flavors that really hit home. The owner(?) asked if I wanted a heater on then fired up one of the patio heaters. The Guinness was perfectly poured, cold and creamy. I'll definitely return next time I'm in town. Heard this place was great and had to try. We were not disappointed with the food, but it was pricy. $17 for a plain burger and $6 for fries, for example. The seating was very limited: a large table inside, a large table just outside, and 3 bench tables. The burger was good with added avocado ($3 add). The fries were good with added cheese, bacon, and garlic ($6 added to the base $6 fries) They had a lot of customers, but little staff. Service was great though. This is a very small establishment - most of the available space is out doors, with many customers there to drink I think. The ambiance is pretty good - they have some neat decorations and paraphernalia to purchase, with some games and puzzles against a wall which might be useful while waiting for your order. You will have to wait - the cook has a small kitchen area to work with, but it is totally worth the wait. Besides the alcohol on tap, they have a fridge full of canned drinks, including a low-sugar root beer which tasted a lot like beer. We tried their burgers with different cheeses and toppings and double patties, their "jeezy" sandwich, their fries with bacon and cheese, their tomato soup, and their wings with sweet chili sauce.
