I thought my card shop IQ was really high because I'm a regular at Hallmark stores such as Elam's in Poway and also always drop into Papyrus when I'm at the mall. I almost never just buy a card from a drugstore, or worse, NOT send one at all for special occasions. But my mind was blown and I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped into Paper Source. They have some of the most creative, clever, and pop-culture-loving cards I have ever seen. A "Three Wise Women" Christmas card featuring Oprah, Gloria Steinem, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- yes, please! They also had a "12 Beys of Christmas" featuring Beyonce and a cheeky leg lamp Christmas Story movie card. I spotted a thank you card that had an image of Tom Hanks and the words "T.Hanks" on the front. Their snark isn't just reserved for cards. They have wrapping paper designs that will make you look twice. I picked up a "Making Spirits Bright" roll that featured images of cartoon cocktails. They also have lots of clever gifts (such as the llama screen cleaner) and things you don't see elsewhere, like heart shaped junior mints for Valentine's Day. The prices are on par with Papyrus; in fact they are a little higher, but it's worth it to get a card that will make your gift recipient say "where in the world did you get this?" and treasure it. They also host creative workshops (update: apparently they are paid events, not free), such as making your own cards, and have a calendar print out of upcoming dates at the register.

I made a huge mistake taking my best friend here Novelty things are what she holds dear Oh my goodness, I had to drag this girl out the door She wanted to buy everything in store She will probably beat me up for writing this But truly, this store brings her so much bliss This is a great store for all kinds of gifts But spare time, as this visit will be anything but swift Will def. come back closer to Christmas and support this very friendly and cute business :)

Super cute cards I made at the Halloween Card Workshop. Paper Source, Villa La Jolla Dr, La Jolla, San Diego, CA

PLEASE NOTE THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THE WORKSHOPS Update: I've taken a couple more classes and have continued to enjoy them. The instructor, Shay, is really nice, knowledgeable and helpful. She really gets to know the participants and gives each of us individual attention. (Even after almost a year, she remembered my name and a story I told her at the last class). I appreciate that she gives us several options to make our cards different than the "samples." Last time she even brought us some Kit-Kats from her recent trip to Japan! She made the whole night fun and creative! The other employee, Rose, usually stops by to chat and help too. She hosts some of the other classes and (from what she described) changes them up from the corporate standard and uniquely personalizes them to the participants. You get a 10% off coupon after the class and the employees let us stay late to shop. Since I took the time to add extra touches to my card, Rose let me use the coupon for an extra week! My only criticism is that there aren't enough classes and sometimes the classes are too large and feel rushed.

Just take all my money!! The paper source has the cutest items ever! My girlfriends and I came to do a private event since it was raining. We made our own calendar and had an instructor with us, giving us ideas on what to do and how to use certain products. It was so fun! Highly recommend if you want to do something with friends indoors!

Do they provide gift wrapping service?

Definitely if Rose, the expert gift-wrapper is working. I'm not sure about other times. You can call ahead or make an appointment using this link: https://store-locator.papersource.com/gift-wrap-appointment?quoteId=9458443

I ended up getting like five of the cubes cuz they were just too cute. I got the Little Twin Stars, Hello Kitty, My Melody, and Kuromi! I just liked the packaging. After I eat all the goodies inside, I will be repurposing the cubes! Since I spent over $50, ended up getting the 20% off. Usually, I try to wait till they mark them down to grab some of these goodies, but I couldn't resist! These are always a nice gift for whatever occasion!

When we passed by, there was a sign indicating that staff was on break so we decided to come back after lunch. When we came back there was a lady behind the counter and she was assisting other customers. Yes, this candy is expensive but holy cow are they delicious. My husband like the gummy candies, and the one we picked out were very flavorful. I wish there were samples so that you're able to try them, but they do sell sample packets (4 for $10). Each sample packet some with about 10 pieces of small candies. My daughter chose the sea salt caramels and when I tried them they were delicious. The chocolate was not too overbearing and had a small hint of sea salt. The caramel was the right amount of stickiness and didn't stick too much to your teeth. Packaging is beautiful and a nice gift for those who appreciate sweets!

Leilanis Attic - Punalu'u Sweet bread- they also had guava and taro but I went with original- good to know they carry this bread!

Hubs enjoys Lion Coffee, and we use to always grab a few bags when in Hawai'i, but haven't been in awhile, so Leilani's comes through with a stocking stuffer - or two! I also picked up some cute Hawaiian themed Christmas cards and Honolulu Cookie Co cookie bites and Punalu'u Taro Sweetbread! Took my mind back to the Big Island with the first bite! Broke da mouth! Of course we had to check it out! It's located in between Victory MMA & Fitness and GuilTea Cravings on Clairemont Mesa Blvd in Clairemont. There's a huge parking lot with ample parking spaces around. My boyfriend and I were just browsing around the area and the first thing I noticed was the variety packs of Noms, a fun gummy bear snack with a mixture of flavors. It's apparently become very popular since we left the islands, and I've been seeing it more and more often. There were also other great snack options such as li hing snacks and crack seeds, taro chips, etc. There were also a lot of local food mixes such as Hawaiian curry, Adobo, etc. Besides food, there was a section of jewelry, clothes, flasks, etc. A huge variety of items here! We definitely don't need to go back home to get these things as now we know there's an option in San Diego, haha! The owner mentioned that if there were some things missing, we can make a request for them to try get the item. Amazing! Will be bringing my non-Hawaii friends here in the future!

While the bookstore itself has a decent & varied selection of new books, and they'll order any book for you that they don't have, it is not the most pleasant place to shop. As a bibliophile and an English teacher, I really want to like and support Warwick's, but unfortunately, they've treated me poorly on multiple occasions which makes it challenging for me to give them more chances. There are many book sellers & employees, but they are not very helpful and they treat you like an inconvenience or worse. The right side of the store is book-centric while the left side of the store is mostly stationer & cards, writing utensils, gift items, and tchotchkes. Today, I purchased a book and a pen refill with a credit that I had at the store. I requested the pen refill from one counter, and I had to go to the book counter to pay for my book. Instead of giving me the refill so I could bring it over to the book counter and pay for both items with my credit, the employee brought the refill over herself and told a 2nd employee while pointing at me that, "that woman over there is also getting this pen refill along with her book." Then the 2nd employee handed the refill to a 3rd employee who stashed it behind the counter while I waited for my turn to pay. Keep in mind that the pen refill was a mere $6 item but they treated it like a precious gem that would surely compel me, if I held it in my own hands, to run out of the store with it without paying for it. Meanwhile, I'm holding the much pricier book that I'm going to purchase in my hands, but I rapidly felt like turning on my heels and vacating the store, and leaving the book behind, of course, because that moment was just so strange and uncomfortable. Over the past ten years, I have regularly patronized this store and I've purchased items here multiple times per year. However, there is no recognition, no friendliness, nothing to indicate that I'm more than just a tourist popping in on vacation. At the very least, a friendly greeting would do, but no such luck. The Every time I cross the threshold, I feel a wall of snootiness that is just unpleasant and takes away from what could be a lovely shopping experience. As I'm sure you've figured out by now, items are definitely on the pricey side here. You can certainly find a better value and probably way friendlier service at other bookstores outside of LJ. I think Warwick's probably provides a different type of shopping experience for patrons depending on who the employees perceive them to be, even if they are way off the mark. C'est la vie. Just know that if you are a POC and you shop here, you may have an unpleasant experience, but I certainly hope that you don't! Peace.
