I prefer the gyro plate to a gyro. The gyro will not have as much flavor. Because of the pita, vegetables, and sauce. The plate has double the meat. I eat it as is. To get the full buttery flavor. I also love the small Greek salad. Super delicious. The baklava was nice. A tad bit dry

I've been here twice so far The first time we ordered out, got the gyro plate with lamb. Everything was great. The pita bread was fresh. The meat was moist. The rice was fresh and cooked perfect. 10/10 However, my second time here was a dine in and was not the best . I ordered the same thing...gyro plate with lamb. The lamb was cooked good however the rice was extremely stale and tasted old as goes with the pita bread. I was very disappointed this time. 5/10 My son got the Philly cheesesteak gyro he said it was bland. 6/10 The Taziki sauce was also very bland 4/10

Haven't been here in a while and came in since I was craving some basic American food. This is a Greek-owned northern style diner that serves both American classics and Greek options such as gyros, Greek salad, and more. Order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. We got a burger, hot dogs, and the loaded Philly cheesesteak fries. Everything was great and fresh. Not oily at all. The burger was my favorite. It has this unique texture that is hard to describe but it's really great for $8.99. You can get it for cheaper during their happy hour. The fries were really good, nice texture being crispy and fluffy on the inside. The hot dog was good but something about the chili was putting me off and I'm not sure what. Maybe a spice like nutmeg or something which I particularly hate in my savory food. There was also an insane amount of mustard that it was pouring off with each bite. I'd try another hot dog in the future but I really recommend the burger, fries, and their gyros. They serve off brand sodas. The interior is nicely decorated and very clean. Wish they would be open late some days for that true diner experience. Would also be nice to put in some booths. Check it out sometime!

SO MANY THINGS TO CHOOSE FROM!!! I've passed this place a couple times now and while I was in the area today I decided to finally try it out. First off, it smells delicious in here. There so many things to choose from and everything sounds good. I ordered the original papa gyro and the Philly gyro. Both were SO GOOD. I'm already looking forward to coming back here.

While visiting Houston on a solo business trip, I knew I had to take advantage of the freedom to pick my own meals and see what kind of hidden gems I could find. I first looked at the most recent Yelp 100 to see if anything was reasonably close to my hotel in Katy, and lucky me, Pappa Gyros wasn't too far away! The old school dinner aesthetic was welcoming and cozy. The laminated menu had so many items, front and back, that sounded delicious! I couldn't choose, so I asked the gal at the cash register what a popular chose is for someone who has never been. She recommended Taki's Combo Plate which had a little bit of everything--lamb, souvlaki, dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), pilaf, and I chose to substitute fries rather than a salad. The food was so good--extremely authentic! Souvlaki is one of my favorite foods, and Pappa Gyro did not disappoint. The flavor and char was just right. I ended up eating nearly everything on my plate! I was also impressed their Koulourakia (Greek Easter Cookies). They were nearly as good as my mom's! Pappa Gyros is definitely worth going out of your way for a bite to eat! I am so glad I drove a little extra to be able to enjoy during my most recent trip to Katy. The food was stellar. The aesthetic was comfortable, and the service was welcoming. I'll be back--I'm sure!

We are midwesterners who are always looking for midwestern food, so when we saw Katy had some, we thought we would try it. The first impression was that it was very clean! The staff was very nice and friendly. They explained everything to us. We ordered some food to eat now and an order to go. They also had Hershey ice cream, which is my husband's favorite so I knew we would be getting dessert as well. I tried the strawberry cheesecake and it was really good! We ordered a combo (sausage and Italian beef) and a Chicago hotdog to go. We ordered a regular gyro, Italian beef (dipped), onion rings, and fries. I have to admit the onion rings stole the show! They were thick and crispy! The fries were good as well. The gyro had good flavor and the Italian beef was ok as well. Not what we were used to eating but good. If you want to try some Midwest food, give it a try!

Wow, had the chicken kabob and it was absolutely delicious! Looks like a start up business so the location is very small. Wouldn't recommend eating with a large crowd but the prices are decent and I will definitely be back for takeout. read more

Fantastic meal. Christian, the owner, seems to know everyone who walks in. He treats all customers like they are part of his family. I am partial to the gyro with seasoned fries. The portions are large and you will leave full. Don't let the location discourage this gem of a restaurant. Can't wait for the new location to open. read more

Oh I love this place! My husband and I wanted a cheap but delicious bite to eat and decided to come here. We got the Italian beef sandwich and a gyro. Both were amazing! BRO!!!!!!! This place is seriously amazing! 100/10 will be coming back soon. The original gyro Athena style was FIRE! Very filling and super super yummy. My sister got the chipotle pita sandwich which was also good! The customer survive here is seriously top notch, they even threw in a couple extra goodies for us which was so nice. This is probably the best gyro spot in Katy. Their portions are amazing, and the gyro meat is always well seasoned and fresh. My only gripe is that they don't have a true dining area, so you have to wait until you get home to sink your teeth into everything.. or you can just dive in while in the parking lot. read more

The owner served us himself. Such a nice man! Dolmas are my favorite! Served with a Greek yogurt dip that was creamy and fresh. Then came beautiful simple salads and delicious vinegrette on the side. Main course was amazing. We had generous portions of Moussaka and Pistaco. Creamy, fresh and rich in flavor. Very casual small diner. Love the family owned places. This one is good value and you get a lot of food. read more

Wow this little place is awesome. I tried a gyro plate and the food was great. The flavors are good and it taste very real greek. I also tried some Christmass cookies called Melomakarona and they were delicious. The only helped me and he was super nice making sure that everything was ok. The best gyros!! Meat is tender and flavorful. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Pitas are off the chain. They give you a huge portion. I can never finish no matter how hard i try. No other gyros can compare. Awesome fries too read more

Excellent fresh food, not fast food. We've enjoyed gyro, gyro plate and the very flavorful "dipped" Italian beef. As mentioned the place is small so be prepared to wait for a table or get it to go. My preference is enjoy this menu at location. The outstanding customer service provided by the entire staff is second to none but Mike Ditka throws out all the stops to make sure you are well served! Give the place a go highly doubt you will be dissatisfied with food flavors and freshness. read more

Had a gyro plate and it was good, but I've have had better. But the REAL star was the totally authentic Chicago Dog....right down to the sport peppers and the neon green relish. Thank God I got two so I could enjoy one the next day! Highly recommended!! Five stars for the Dog and one off for the venue which is very small with a crappy drive-thru which is connected to the local Shell gas station. Nice people though! read more

Don't judge this place based on the gas station next door! Pappa's is clean and friendly! I was served the most delicious Greek Gyro salad I've ever had! They crisp up the gyro meat....it's delicious!! And the salad dressing is yummy!!!!! The owner speaks to each customer ensuring their food is hot and delicious. Parking in front and back of building. I took a pound of gyro meat home! read more

Even though this place is attached to a gas station and doesn't appeal to the average person, I have to say the food was incredible. I'd suggest the gyro plate. If your going to go through the drive through, call in your order ahead of time because it will speed up the process. Give this place a chance because you won't regret it. read more

Me and my son ate here for the 1st time tonight and had gyros with seasoned french fries and a fresh greak salad. Also had a Vernors which is a Michigan pop. OH MY!!!! We're from Cleveland, Oh. Those that know the "flats" & bar hopped in the 90's know before going home you'd stop & buy a gyro. I haven't had a more delicious, fully stacked gyro with cucumber sauce since Home. The owner is so kind! I am not walking back but running to try it all!! Ever since I first tried this place out, I've been back 4 times already. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. On my first visit the owner gave me and my boyfriend samples of each of the cookies they had for dessert at no charge. The gyro is pretty good, and service is quite fast. They even have a drive thru in case if you don't want to come in. Overall, great place to eat and I would definitely recommend. read more

I already wrote a review, but I have to write another! Last night there was a misunderstanding and our order was wrong. I went all the way back and the owner was glad to fix the order, refunded the difference in money, and gave us baklava, and cookies, and drinks for free! Even said he would of driven it to us if there is ever another mix up... Even if the food was mediocre I would come here for the service alone... but it is not mediocre it is amazing food too! Can't beat this place. I love it. read more

Excellent food. The Italian Beef is authentic Chicago style folks. Run, don't walk to this place. The owner Chris is so very nice and he knows what it takes to make great food, with a rich history steeped in local Detroit and Chicago classics. The Gyros are fantastic too...again, authentic and high quality products (starting with Kronos gryo meat). So glad to have this place in Katy. read more

I got the Garlic Tonkotsu Shoyu ramen with spinach and corn, and my boyfriend got the Spicy Ramen. Both broths were so rich and flavorful. They were both slightly salty, so we also got the clear broth refill which made them just right. The ramen had a perfect chew, and the toppings were flavorful and delicious. I usually don't like bamboo toppings in ramen because of the ammonia smell, but I tried some bamboo from the Spicy Ramen that my boyfriend got, and it had no strong bamboo smells at all. Tomatoes & Pork Soup Dumplings - I was exceptionally curious about incorporating tomatoes into soup dumplings, so I had to order these to satisfy my curiosity. Grateful to see they also had a thumbs-up on the menu to reinforce my decision. The dumplings were beautifully folded and didn't tear when picked up. You could actually see how much soup was packed inside--they looked like little jiggly water balloons. The broth was unexpectedly sweet while still being savory, with a very clean flavor. My BF said they were probably some of the best soup dumplings he's ever had, and I'd have to agree--they were pretty top-tier. These came out hot-hot. The wrapper felt a bit drier than other soup dumplings I've had, giving it a mildly chewy aftertaste that I wasn't fond of (I'm very aware of textures), but in terms of flavor, absolutely no complaints. It's important to note that I've never been as big a fan of soup dumplings as my BF is, but I admit this place converted me. Time to see how well it compares to Din Tai Fung. After watching the dumpling episode of Chuuka Ichiban (Cooking Master Boy), I became overly aware of the thickness of dumpling wrappers. I have to admit this place absolutely nailed it--the wrapper was just thick enough to hold the filling, yet delicate enough that it almost melted away as you chewed. - Red Oil - Tangy and aromatic. Despite being an oil-based sauce, it didn't taste overly greasy. The seasoning and herbs gave it a signature spice that felt layered rather than simply spicy for the sake of being spicy. It actually grew on me the more I went back to it between the other dumplings, working as a great palate cleanser and taste bud reset. Pork & Scallion Thumb Bun - I'd never had a thumb bun before, but it's quite dainty, just as the name suggests. The texture was a bit firmer than I would have liked--almost like a stiff potsticker. All of these dumplings had a very pronounced pork flavor. I found this one a bit too salty compared to the others, perhaps because the soup dumplings and wontons were balanced by their broth and red oil. Maybe I just needed to dip it in vinegar (someone educate me). I tried it three ways: plain, accidentally in soy sauce, and finally in vinegar. The vinegar definitely mellowed out the saltiness, but this still wasn't my favorite dish. Service was fast and considerate throughout our meal. They refilled our water attentively and checked on us at a meaningful pace without feeling intrusive. I also noticed they didn't play any music here, but somehow the constant buzz of the staff moving around was comforting. The atmosphere felt peaceful and gave off very authentic Chinese vibes. Overall, we'll be visiting them again soon at their new location closer to us. #worth

There are certain cravings that get under your skin and stay there for life. For me, it's Portillo's. Not just the food, though a beef sandwich, crinkle-cut fries, and a chocolate cake shake can make a grown man cry. It's the memory of a place and a time. Fox Valley Mall. Pumping quarters into Aladdin's Castle arcade. Flipping through cassette racks at Musicland. Ending the night with grease on my fingers and that smug, satisfied quiet you only get after a perfect meal. Fast forward a couple decades. I'm in Katy, Texas, chasing a burger. My pastor- yes, my pastor- drops a strange little grenade into the conversation. "Best burger in town? A gyro shop inside a gas station." I've been around. I know that some of the best food in the world is made in tiny rooms behind flickering neon beer signs, next to gas pumps, by people who give a damn. So I went. This was Pappa Gyros in its first life, jammed into a Shell station at Kingsland and the Grand Parkway. The place was chaos in the best way- line out the door, drive-through backed up, the air heavy with lamb fat, toasted bread, and that intoxicating smell of "you're about to make a very good decision." I came for the burger. I really did. Then I saw it. Italian beef. Bread soaking in rich gravy, roast beef spilling out like it couldn't be contained, loaded with hot peppers. No sweet. No mercy. One bite and I was gone- straight back to Fox Valley, cassette in hand, arcade tokens in my pocket. I've eaten at Michelin-starred temples. I've sat at tables run by James Beard winners, two in the past month. I went to Le Cordon Bleu once, thinking maybe I'd cook for a living. None of it, none, left me as happy as I was in that moment. And then there's Chris. Christos Batsios. The man cooking like someone who understands that food isn't just sustenance, it's a lifeline. It's memory and friendship and connection, all stacked between two halves of a roll. Today, Pappa Gyros has a shiny standalone on Franz Road. Still crowded, still loud, still serving food with teeth. But part of the magic, for me, will always live in that cramped little gas station kitchen on Kingsland. Chris, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I met Christos, the manager and owner of Pappa Gyros after I was contacted by them about my complaint of the food I have the first time that I was not happy at all. He explained everthing to me of what happened with my food. After I met him, he went over the extra mile to make things right. I have the gyro sandwich with French fries and they were very delicious. When I first walked in I was really shocked how clean this restaurant is. It was so clean the grill was stainless steel with no marks on it. Everything was perfect about the dining area and even the sign they had on the wall. Ok. Let me get to the food. Let me start out by saying it is 100% authentic Greek food. This gyro consist of perfect pita bread folded with seasoned to perfection, onions, a mix of spices and aromatics ( looks like coleslaw ) French fries. I'm pretty sure there is some other sides in there but I can't think of it. Everything about this gyro was perfect it melted in your mouth and the seasoning was out of this world. Of course they have the Gyros and these are traditional and melt in your mouth. You'll be very impressed with this Greek food but it dosent stop there, they have fantastic dogs, Detroit, Coney Island and a Chicago, then we move to the Italian Beef sandwich, OMG! If you've had a Italian Beef in Chicago you'll think you're back there. Then we move to his burger and fries, this man knows how to cook a burger and understands how important a good bun is! It's been about a year since this place opened and I've become a regular. The owners are Greek - as in from Greece - by way of Detroit so, in addition to the Greek food that I love so much when I visit Greece, they also offer many Detroit-style sandwiches. But my favorites remain the Greek food. The spanakopita is utterly exquisite - a fat little coil of pastry holding a perfect mix of spinach & feta. It's just so good! Honestly, I think it's even better than what I get in the Plaka! Also love the moussaka and the pastitsio. And when I mentioned to the owner, Christos, how much I love Stifado, he made me a vat of it to take home and share with my family! Right now, they are hampered somewhat by their location - a small kitchen inside of a gas station - but when, thanks to public demand, they move into their new, larger space, the sky will be the limit. Don't be intimidated by it being adjacent to a gas station...this is my favorite restaurant in the Greater Houston area. You must go here, especially if you are a transplant from the Detroit or Chicago metro areas. The food is delicious. You NEED to try the Italian Beef. The owner is CONSTANTLY innovating his menu. You can tell that he spends a lot of time thinking about what his customers would like. I can't think of another place in town that sells Boston Coolers (a Vernors ginger ale and ice cream float). Don't skip on the fries...they're fantastically crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. And he does an amazing job hiring and keeping fantastic staff. Papa Gyros is the epitome of a family owned and operated restaurant. The owner truly listens to his customers and has even added things to his menu that customers have inquire about. They are personable and give good ol' fashioned customer service. I routinely see other local restaurant owners eating lunch in their dining area. The owner constantly experiments with new flavors and food creations. My family loves it when they are trying out new food items because we get several delicious things to eat for free. Pappa Gyros gets 10 stars from me! Being from the city of Chicago for 48 years Pappa Gyros is the best place for me. I come here about once to twice a week. The Italian Beef sandwich are better than the ones I got back in Chicago. His hot dogs are perfect. The Gyros are outstanding. Once in a while when I order a Greek item, I just loved it. Rolling up to the place, we were a bit concerned, as it's attached to the Shell station next door. But a pleasant surprise awaited inside! They had great gyros and fries. Amazing Greek food in Katy. You must try the Gyros or the Takis plate, it's a combination of several plates in one amazing "full of Greek flavors", a must try. Popped in for a quick bite one day and this place NEVER disappoints. I always like to treat myself to a classic gyro meal w/fries and a diet Vernors. Best combination ever. I've most recently tried the buffalo chicken gyro and it was absolutely fantastic. Chris is such a nice guy & always has great suggestions and the customer service is always impeccable. This place never ceases to fail my cravings and I definitely recommend you try this place out sometime! read more

My friend Laura introduced me to this place 2 years ago and now is a stable in my lunch routine! Christos, the owner is awesome as is his entire staff! The Food: Freaking Amazing! The Staff: Freaking Amazing The Owner: One of best men I have ever met. I over the years have introduced many people to this place and all but one go there all the time! I ordered the Philly the Greek. I was expecting to get a savory flavorful sandwich. Instead I got some meat with zero flavor and when i say zero i mean zero. No salt. No pepper nothing. Who puts cheese wiz on a Philly cheese sandwich!!???? The menu says cheese. Here I am thinking it's the typical provolone.I couldn't even eat it. The onion rings were good. But after $17 it was a total waste. Drive through took 15 min. I'm super disappointed. read more

This is the best hole in the wall Greek restaurant in the Houston area! The food is fantastic, to the point where we ate gyros there, then got two more to go. I'm also pretty sure this is the only place outside Michigan that sells faygo. This place is well worth making the trip from anywhere to try. The customer service is also fantastic, and you can watch while they make your food. Highly recommended! read more

This is one of those "hole in the wall" places that you might totally miss if you don't intentionally look!! It's SO worth a visit!!! Great Greek food, for sure. But the chef also changes it up and offers amazing DELICIOUS specials from his home of Detroit and his cooking toys of Italian cooking.... The meatball sub special last week was SO GOOD- I even got one to go!! read more
