I've seen this place off the katy freeway a few times before the pandemic when I used to drive in to work and was always curious. But I never got around to trying it. Lucky for me, I stumbled upon a Chicken Salad Chick stand at a mini farmers market close to home and decided to give it a try. The lady at the farmers market recommended the classic Carol as their baseline chicken salad so I went with that, and both my husband and I really enjoyed it. (FYI this farmers market is located outside Berings on Bissonnet from 11:30am -1pm every Tuesday). To be honest I've never really been a fan of chicken salad in the past but now I can say that is indeed a thing of the past. The flavor was spot on and I love that every bite was full of chicken (versus mayonnaise, which seems to be the case for all the unappetizing chicken salads I've eaten before). My only complaint with the classic Carol was that I couldn't taste any celery as the menu mentioned "celery" in the description. I was actually very looking forward to crunching into some large chunks of celery but my guess is they diced it so small that you can't taste it. Oh well. It was still delicious. Fast forward a few weeks my husband was working in the area so he picked up some chicken salad chick to go at this katy location. This time we tried the fancy Nancy and Lauren's lemon basil, both superb as well. I can't really say which one is my favorite because they are all so tasty. I was really looking forward to trying this place for weeks. I stopped by on my way back to work from a mid morning doctors appointment. I went through the drive thru and did not go inside. Service through the drive thru was quick and the customer service was good. They answered all my questions. I purchased a egg salad sandwich on white bread for my coworker. I also purchased a Jalapeno Holly on toasted berry wheat with a cup of potato soup and a sweet tea for myself. Both came with a pickle, crackers and a buttercream cookie. The tea was pretty good but could have been sweater. I like their pickles. The cookie wasn't super fresh but still yummy. My coworker and I traded halves of our sandwiches out of curiosity. The egg salad didn't wow me. The consistency had more yolk than egg and could have seriously benefited from some mayo and seasoning salt. I sprinkled on some Slap Ya Mama (yes I keep it in my desk) and that was much better. The lightly toasted white bread consistency was nice and kind of chewy. I was expecting some crunch but there was none. The Jalapeno Holly definitely had a nice kick and flavor but I wish I would have gotten it on toasted white instead of wheat berry which lacked flavor. I ended up using the crackers and scraping the chicken salad off the bread. I was disappointed with the type of Jalapeno in the chicken salad. The Jalapeno they use appeared to be pickled. I expected fresh, crisp, chopped Jalapeno for a bit of texture contrast and crunch but I didn't get that. Still I might order that kind again as a small side. The potato soup came with cheese and bacon. It tasted very basic and had small chunks of cut potatoes that weren't as soft as I would have liked. Something in it smelled spoiled to me. My pregnant nose is VERY strong and if food doesn't smell right I can't get past it or risk it. I tossed the entire thing in the trash to be on the safe side. Overall my expectations were not met. I do however have a complex palate. I prefer seasoned, flavorful food. Definitely more bold than bland. I'm not sure if I'll be back but I'm not totally opposed to giving this place another try.
