I absolutely love their original bun. It is like a slice of heaven in my mouth. It's cripsy on the outside and airy on the inside. It is so good. I am so glad I went to visit the store. I love this little cafe with its delicate and decadent baked goods, thoughtful drinks, and comfortable lounge chairs! I was catching up with a friend here on a very sunny Wednesday afternoon and we ended up spending over three hours here. I liked that the servers never interrupted us or suggested that we leave. We were invited to stay for as long as we liked! I have had coffee buns in the past so I knew what to expect. In fact, I chose to come to this place to compare their coffee buns to those at The Coffee Bun in Coquitlam. I'd say that they were very similar in taste and texture, both being equally crunchy and delicious and satisfying, both pairing beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or tea. Coffee buns are one of my favourite afternoon snacks! I also had an iced matcha latte. The taste was mild, almost too mild, but of course much better than the overly bitter matcha flavours that I have tasted in the past. My friend had one of their famous karak teas which tasted like a black tea with stronger ginger and cardamom flavours. It would be so comforting on a cold or rainy day. I wish I had ordered it but it was too late in the day for me to be having caffeine! Overall, this is a lovely little cafe and one that I hope to return to in the near future. I'd say that this is closer to a 4.5 star rating but I took off one star because I thought the prices were a bit expensive. Then again, it's Downtown Vancouver. read more

Groups of middle-aged to elderly men huddled together in front of cafes always make a cafe look more inviting for me. That's what drew me in here, along with the fact that PappaRoti wasn't just another Starbucks/chain coffee store. I wasn't expecting a coffee store like this to promote a signature classic like a coffee bun to complement their drinks. I was like thinking, with a dull undertone, "Oh great, another coffee bun-serving cafe" (as there was one near my house that I regularly went to and got tired of) but I highly regretted this thought after tasting a coffee bun at PappaRoti. These coffee buns were incredibly good! Fluffy and light. No badly shaped bun either; each one was perfectly rounded. No lumps and bumps. Impressed indeed. My bun came out on a mini, cute wooden tray with a single handle. Strawberries were the chosen topping. But next time, I'm probably getting kaya. Kaya is a delightful treat, and is native to SE Asia. The texture here was like organic fruit jam and I can imagine it going well with scones and toast too. Latte didn't disappoint, but I sadly could drink only half of the cup. In my defense, I'm getting increasingly caffeine-sensitive. Wifi key can be confusing because they handwrite the Wifi passwords on slips of paper that they keep in a jar on the counter. The writing is beautiful and neat (don't get me wrong), but it can be hard to make out the actual spelling. A minor issue that can be overlooked though. So happy I finally got to try out this gem! Went in with a few friends and came back a few days later. Firstly, THE BUN. I couldn't figure out what this was going to be like, but my friend just said "trust me, you'll love it. Had it with Nutella, of course, and some strawberries. The bun is very crisp on the outside and very soft and buttery on the inside. I just cut mine up with a fork and knife and put some Nutella on top and I was in heaven! If I was to describe it, the Bun reminds me of a Crepe, or Waffle and you put on some toppings, similar idea but yet different. I think this is something that you need to eat fresh at the resto, but I did see that they had options of take out Buns which is interesting. A very unique and delicious experience. Also had the Milk Tea which was great! The second day I had it it was a little too spiced for me, less milk tea and more "spiced" flavour. But still good none the less! The interior is GORGEOUS with lots of smaller tables. Very clean lobby and bathrooms. Love how its a little away from the main shops of Robson and away from the restos yet close enough to have a convenient stop, and still find street parking. Will definitely be back! read more

Atmosphere: An adorable cafe with mix and matched furniture/chairs/tables. I'd come back just to sit in the lounge area and sip on some tea! The cafe/restaurant was partially full of various types of people (a group of middle aged women, a 20-something male studying, etc all drinking some loose leaf tea!) Service: Awesome! The waiter at the register was super sweet and kind. The set up to order is to ring in your order at the register, grab a wooden number to put on your table, and the servers bring you your food/drink. Simple but perfect. Food: Yummers! I shared an original bun with my friend. It was much bigger than I thought it would be. The outside was sweet (but not overly sweet) and crunchy while the inside was soft, somewhat flaky and buttery (especiallyyyy righttt in the middle.. When its good it's great - and when it's not, its just average. I have been here multiple times now and when they started out - they were great. The bun was perfect every time and the teas were spot on. However, since they have recently started to get more and more popular - the quality and service seems to have gone down. The last time I visited, I got the bun after I had finished my tea and when the bun came - it was overcooked and not as fluffy as it normally is. This brand is known worldwide for providing excellent tasting buns every time. I'm grateful that it opened up in Vancouver but they seriously need to work on delivering consistently. The bun itself is $3.50 and then you can choose toppings to go with it. The toppings - although tasty - don't really add much. It really is all about the bun ! The cafe is large enough to accommodate a lot of people and the atmosphere is more like a coffee shop hangout. read more

We got the crazy for kaya bun which had Kaya and honey. We also got the Karak tea. The bun was really good, it had a nice crispy texture outside and it was super soft and moist inside. It was our first time having this type of bun and it was definitely really good and would be great accompaniment to coffee. But as far as the karak tea or karak chai was concerned it was a big disappointment. Though it tasted ok and the spices were good but it tasted exactly like something that comes out of an instant machine or instant tea mix where you just add hot water. It was just watery. Real freshly made tea doesn't taste like this. I would suggest to get a wagh bakeri 3 in 1 masala tea mix and make it yourself. So I am giving the 4 star just for the bun. read more

I tried PappaRoti for the first time a few days ago and it was so good I went back the very next day! They are known for their coffee buns: fluffy and buttery on the inside with a slightly crispy, sweet, cookie-like topping. Served warm- it's delicious on its own but you can choose to get the bun with a topping, ice cream, fruit side, or a combination of a couple of those options. I tried it with the Kaya topping and the cream cheese- both very good, but the Kaya topping is sweet and the cream cheese is more of a savory topping. My husband, friends, and I all agreed that the name itself and sign of the establishment don't help advertise the business very much because not a lot of people can figure out what they actually sell. I've seen the place more than a dozen times and never wanted to stop in because I had no idea what they sold. A friend recommended that I try it because I love sweets, pastries, and desserts. I'm oh so glad I finally got to try it! The staff is friendly/helpful, and it's a pretty little cafe to get together with a friend or two over coffee and a delicious bun :) I actually got several buns to go to have a few relatives try, and the staff recommended that the buns not be microwaved but toasted or baked at 375° for 3-4 min. My aunt said they turned out perfectly! Ty for the reheating directions ;) I will definitely be back soon for more! read more

My hubby and I went here for breakfast before going on a bike ride around Stanley Park. We split the Nutella & banana bun and the strawberries and whipped cream bun. I had never had a sweet bun before like this style. I loved the slightly flakey exterior with the soft/buttery almost almond-y interior. Their coffee is smooth & creamy! The coffee buns were so soft and pillowy but with a crispy topping. It was a very light breakfast and paired well with my Karak tea - which is most similar to a chai tea. My girlfriend has wanted to try the buns here ever since they opened up but we never were in the area at the right time to do so until last night. The cafe itself is very clean and nice with a pretty hip atmosphere but it does get very busy and seats can be hard to find! Luckily we got the last open table in the place and she treated us to a nutella and banana bun ( thanks hun!) for $5.50 which is think is a great deal. The plate is very pleasant to look at, as it's presented very well. The amount of nutella and banana were perfect for the size of the buns they serve, which are absolutely delicious. Crunchy on the outside and chewy/buttery on the inside that can be shared between two people very easily. We didn't have any drinks other than the free lemon water that they have so I can't speak for any of that but we did love what we got. My tip would be to cut the bun like a pizza and then stuff the banana and nutella on the inside and eat it! that was the best !!! We will be back :) read more

This sure beats all the Starbucks and Blenz in the neighbourhood! I love catching up with friends over a coffee or tea and due to convenience, usually end up at one of the chains above. After walking by PappaRoti so many times and seeing Yelp friends check in here, I figured I should give it a try. The first few times I came, their signature bun was sold-out! Which was rather fortuitous because I ended up trying the Karak Tea! (Crack tea?? because it's so addicting!). It's a deliciously comforting blend of chai spices, cardamom and condensed milk! I've ordered it to go and it's kept me warm while I walk around Stanley Park and I've also enjoyed it while sitting in their cozy seats at the back. Other points? Friendly staff and the free wi-fi is awesome. I also love that they have almond milk as a dairy alternative for their drinks!! Lastly, I finally tried the bun. It's nothing what I expected but it was a good experience. I ordered a chocolate ice cream bun. Don't expect it to be made in a minute since there is a bit of effort in making one. It was a messy experience too so don't wear your sunday best and maybe a bib would be nice to have on. $6 dollars for one nicely packed soft ice cream in a bun nothing spectacular and there was some coffee syrup was dizzled on top. read more

This in itself deserves an equally thorough reply from me. I felt that the service on Friday was not typical as my partner and I have religiously been to your specific location (we drive from East Van) on our "date nights", and we have had excellent customer service there. On this particular night, it was exceptionally poor. It was so bad, that this was the first time ever I actually thought of reaching into the tip jar to retrieve my gratuity tip (we spent about $40, so go figure). Thank u for taking the time to explain on here the process behind the buns and Karak. I respect businesses who limit their supply in order to uphold their quality. However, the main issue was not the 2 Korean/Chinese baristas explaining your policies, but it was their rude attitude and "death stares" that accompanied it. It was very obvious from their behaviours that they just want to close up your shop soon and do the bare minimum. During business hours, one should treat all your paying customers with a certain level of courtesy and respect, right? (The Filipina was nice though). Recommendation? Bring this incident up at your next staff meeting to ensure you aren't losing business from other customers who have left because of the same reasons. The dessert roti here is great! Soft and flaky. There's not much flavour to the base roti so I recommend toppings, especially the banana and Nutella. It's fun to bring people here for the first time but it's unlikely I'll go back by myself. Open later than many other dessert places in the area. read more

It's my first time here and I love the bun!!!! The coffee flavour is more of an aroma than taste which is good because it doesn't dominate n cover the flavour of the bun. Yum yum!! He ordered the Strawberry Fields coffee bun and I had a Greek Salad (a weird morning choice, I know, but I was craving vegetables). Both were wonderful and very fresh - the Strawberry Fields bun was especially delicious. The bun was not too sweet, just enough to feel like a breakfast treat. Lots of room to sit, really friendly people, and a really broad range if things to eat and drink. The Karak tea is super light and refreshing. It was pretty hot and getting the Karak tea iced was such a good idea. If you've never had Karak it's very similar to the typical teas/chais in India and Pakistan (tastes of ginger, cardamom, lightly sweet). The buns they seem to be known for are decadent and fluffy and I could probably eat two or three if nobody was watching. My sister got a piña colada smoothie and my mom got the Arctic ice drink. Both were really fresh and not overly sweet. Would definitely come here for the ambiance or to study! read more

This place is great! It's a little expensive, but the food and teas are really good. I get the rancho breakfast wrap (grilled) and the blossom tea. I got one of the buns with ice cream once, and it was good, but enormous. The chicken, cranberry, and brie sandwich looks mighty tasty, but I haven't tried it *yet*. Came here on a Good Friday just before 3 just to wait at our table with the number 10 board for our order. Took near 15 minutes just to get coffee. Does it really take that long for coffee and there is no line up?! Got the works order which comes with a dessert bun and fruits but no coffee. Was not until my girlfriend went up to ask where's our coffee and found out they did not even start the coffee. What kind of business takes money for goods and not honour what customers paid for? She has the nerve to ask if we have the receipt. If she had given one when we did our debit transaction then maybe we would. Why we wait there for so long for coffee! Be careful and make sure you get everything you have paid for. They will bogus charge you without you knowing and not getting everything you have paid for.
