I'm still pretty new to exploring cafés and bakeries around Vancouver, and Breka Bakery & Cafe was a fun place to stop for a little break. I tried one of the pastries with a coffee, and everything looked so tempting that choosing just one was definitely the hard part. The pastry was nicely balanced and went really well with the coffee. The service was friendly and the staff kept things moving even though the café had a steady flow of people. I also liked the atmosphere -- casual, warm, and easygoing. It feels like the kind of place where you can drop in for a quick breakfast or coffee without making a big occasion out of it. Overall, I enjoyed my first visit and would happily come back to try some of the other pastries and breakfast options. read more

Five out of five for the sausage rolls alone. Croissant was also nice. I did take out and went back multiple days for the sausage roll. I wouldn't sit here for a cute bakery or cafe hang. Perhaps it was because it was rainy during those days but floor was not clean, the place was really busy so I can see how it may be hard to keep up with cleaning. Staff was fast with orders though. Sensational coffee BREKA serves to wake me up from my morning coma is why I keep coming back. Rich, robust & strong Java to get the blood flowing but no harsh over brunt beans. It's a smooth so I can enjoy every sip. Java not the only thing I grab. Morning times have great pasties freshly made , however their late night deserts taste devine and since open 24hrs you can last night binge on sugary delights. Now you can take treats to go however you can gather your thoughts or rest your feet cause plenty of tables & chairs for you to lounge around on. Is this place really open 24h? If so, that is awesome. We came at 6pm and it was so busy, every seat taken. Other times we have tried to come there is a line out the door. They have sandwiches, every dessert you could want and drinks. The London fog was the best I have ever had and is my favorite drink. The early gray cream puff was fantastic. My husband had the London fog donut which was also good. Everything was reasonably priced and fully stocked at night. read more

Rarely is a bakery open 24/7. Breka is great for this & there are quite a few locations in downtown Vancouver. This shop is spacious yet cozy. Service, food, drinks, & pastries are all good. I especially love the breakfast cookies (only $1.50 CAD each!). They are loaded with oatmeal, dried fruit, chocolate. Bakers dozen gets you a free cookie. Yum! This was a local chain that popped up everywhere so I had to check it out. It was very busy late at night and it was busy in the morning as well when I went back the next day. They have a very large variety of baked goods- from pastries to breads to desserts and sandwiches. I got their salted caramel praline cake and a tuxedo cake. When I went back the next morning, I got their maple pecan doughnut and their pistachio filled doughnut. Everything was very good , but pretty subtle on sweetness and flavor. The flavor that came through the most was on the pecan maple donut and that was really sweet. The two cakes looked better than they tasted even though they tasted yummy. The flavor was very subtle so I wish there was more salted caramel or praline taste, and more fudgy taste on the tuxedo cake. The filling on the pistachio donut was a little skimpy though it tasted good. I just wish there was more of it. I still recommend this café because they have lots of seating and I really like the fun buzzing atmosphere. If I were a local, I would definitely frequent this bakery and their other chain locations too. I would definitely try their other things because there were other things that looked even more delicious. This Breka cafe is large and sunny with lots of seating, including small tables, a communal table, and window counters, but is nonetheless always full when I pass by. Although the design is nice, the atmosphere was really hectic because of how busy they were; trying to get a seat was a free for all, the staff was yelling order numbers, and I felt rushed to order before I got to the front of the line which meant I hadn't gotten to even see everything in the display yet. I did manage to grab a seat at the communal table where I was able to enjoy my lunch. I got an egg salad sandwich, a date & walnut hamantaschen, and a cup of sencha. The challah bread that the sandwich was made with was very light and a little sweet and goes well with the egg salad. I would have liked the sandwich a little more if it had lettuce or greens instead of just the egg salad inside. I like that they pair their sandwiches and savoury pastry pockets with a pickle slice. The hamantaschen was also very good - the cookie was fresh and soft, and I loved the flavour of the date-walnut jam filling. Tea is decent too. I've tried other things from other locations, and in general, I think all of their food is tasty and great quality for the affordable prices. Some of the savoury sandwiches and pockets are a little oily/buttery, but they are very tasty. I've really enjoyed all of the cakes I've tried; the desserts are sweet but they come in reasonable portions so I don't feel like it's too much. The donuts are heavenly, super fluffy, but very sweet. The muffins are the only baked good here that I've been a little underwhelmed by - they're not bad but just average. This is not my usual Breka but I wanted to try this one to switch it up. I probably will not come back to this one because I feel like the other locations are more laid back and have nicer staff, but I am just basing this off one visit, so it's of course entirely possible I just visited at a particularly stressful time. My partner has a sweet tooth, so when my cousin spoke highly of this place during our visit to Vancouver, we had to try it. Situated downtown, the place was buzzing with people and we had to wait in queue. The interiors are well lit and spacious but the assortment of items displayed before you keep you glued and simply take your breath away. From sandwiches, cake slices, breads, hot beverages they have a lot. It can be a bit overwhelming with so many options. We decided to go with cake slices and a sandwich. We ordered: Tiramisu Strawberry Shortcake Tuxedo Truffle Black forest Turkey Provolone Sandwich Each bite took me on a delicious adventure. The sandwich was well toasted with a nice crunch, the meat was tender and overall had rich flavours of pesto, garlic spread and provolone. But it was the cakes that blew was mind. All the cakes tasted exquisite. They were soft, creamy and had the right amount of sweetness. Each bite made me to want more. My favorite was the Strawberry Shortcake -- it was heavenly. Tried two items from Breka Bakery after a long day of adventuring around Stanley Park. We tried the TikTok famous ketchup cookie (yay Canada Day) and a kuffle, which had an interesting description about cream cheese and only cost a little over a dollar. The ketchup cookie was highly overrated in our opinion. At times it tasted like we were eating barf, but the pieces of white chocolate chip were a nice touch. The kuffle was quite good! It was only two bites big but tied us over until the next meal :) I also loved their interior design and it seemed like a great place for young professionals to do corporate work. We landed In Vancouver late at night. By the time we got to our room, we were dead tired and hungry. Hubby went and got me a turkey panini and lavender lemonade. The sandwich was on wonderful fresh bread and fresh ingredients. Can't remember what Hubby had, sadly, but he loved it! The one downside is that it's hard to tell what's in the case until you get up to it, but the staff is trying to keep the line moving and doesn't want you standing around and looking for too long. We were staying nearby and in town for a show that ended at 10PM. We had a late lunch and were hungry but didn't want a heavy meal. Break to the rescue! Besides having a lovely array of pastries, sandwiches and coffee drinks, they are open 24/7, which is the best. This location was jam packed, but their order/pay/pick up service system was quick and we were out the door with some quinoa veggie salads, "cretzel" sandwiches, banana bread and a sausage roll. No one was wild about the sausage roll, but everything else was great. It's a cute counter service cafe with outdoor seating if you are stopping by during the day (though plenty of folks were using the outdoor seating on the mild February night we visited). The young, Asian girl working the cash register tonight needs to be re-trained for customers! I'll tell you why in a sec... The display was absolutely eye pleasing, clean, and organized. Prices affordable. It was a long line, but it moved pretty efficiently. They appeared to have plenty of workers to keep the line going and they were proactive about getting orders while customers were in line. There is no drip coffee here, I was shocked! They do have a variety of coffee drinks but no simple drip coffee. We shared a strawberry shortcake and a earl grey puff pastry, the names may off some, but when I say the BEST desserts, I mean the best. Fresh. So they had outside and inside tables, not enough for the crowd but we found a table. Now back to the cashier. So after I ordered and tipped WELL, I asked if she had a wet rag or towel that I could use for our table because it was so dirty. She looked at me and said... no lie... "no, all we have are those brown napkins" and points to the DRY napkins by the trash cans with no offer to have someone wipe it for us. I almost asked for my tip back lol. I found a bottle of cleaner a worker must have left by the dirty dish collection and cleaned my own table. I mean, something simple like that just goes a long way. Even if you don't like baked goods you're gonna wanna try this place. Art, Taste, Quality, Pride and Zen sums this place up. Their selection of breads, sandwiches, cakes, torts and pastries is impressive and what makes it more thrilling is that it tastes as good as it looks. The space itself is very relaxing but can get incredibly busy. I love the design and decor inside (see pic) as well as the space outside, which you can enjoy on beautiful Bute Street near Robson. I first tried their croissant at their Davie location and it was consistently perfectly done here as well. I love coconut anything, so I was thrilled to see that they have coconut macaroons as well as coconut doughnuts. I kind of have a love/fear feeling toward this place, because I'm a bread fiend and when I walk into this place my self control is tested to its limits. That's how good it is. I don't do lineups. Ever. Even if Luis Vuitton had a 50% off sale I wouldn't stand in a line up, but for this place I would. I want to try one of their torts....ok gotta go. Yeah, you should try this place. read more

We came in for a quick breakfast while our group was still waking up. It's pretty cool that the bakery is open 24 hours and I wonder if they're constantly making fresh bread and pastries even during the late hours. It's really something walking in and just smelling the coffee brewing and all the fresh baking smells. As you line up, take a quick look at everything displayed. You order before you even get to the cash register so that everything is boxed up and ready as soon as you're ready to pay. All Butter Croissant: So crispy and buttery. Such a simple yet delicious breakfast. They're decently big too so share with someone and order a second pastry to try. Kuffle: These are really small, almost bite-sized pastries. I misread it and thought it was filled with cream cheese but it's actually cream cheese dough. It's pretty good and not a bad price if you just want to try one. Chipotle Chicken and Bacon Pocket: I loved that this was in a puff pastry, making every bite crispy. Eat this fresh so you don't lose that crispiness! Comes with a pickle spear. I would pair this with something else if you're trying to make a meal out of it. It's not that big or thick. Can't wait to come back and try their other pastries! Right when you walk in you get hit with that amazing freshly baked goods smell, and once you see the display cases of all the choices... be ready to hold yourself back from buying one of everything! - PARKING - Street parking available, but we were staying at a hotel nearby so we just walked! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - There are a few tables outside and a good amount inside, although every seat was taken while we were there. The line to order unfortunately ends up blocking the view of the display cases because it's always so long, so it's a bit hard to peruse and decide what items you want before a staff member asks you. It seems like by the time you get halfway to the cash register, they ask what you'd like so they can box it up and have it ready for you at the end to pay. I'd suggest taking a peek before getting in line otherwise you might miss an item! - FOOD - London Fog Donut ($2.50): Super fluffy yeast donut with a delicious Earl Grey infused glaze on top. Not too overpowering either! I like yeast donuts more than cake donuts because of how soft some places make them, and Breka is definitely one of those places. All Butter Croissant ($2.75): I knew I had to get a Croissant after seeing the amount of baked bread and goods they had - I just had a feeling it would be amazing. I was right! So flaky and buttery when eaten fresh, and even after I brought it back to the hotel, it was still just as good. - OVERALL - So many options to choose from, but such little time in our weekend trip. I came here during a vacation, when I had to take a quick break and get some work done. As an American, I was SHOCKED finding out that there's a 24/7 cafe (I think that alone already deserves 5 stars, especially with the consistent quality throughout the evening). This location has both indoor and outdoor seating, but be warned that it may be difficult to find seats as it's so busy. There are so so many options for drinks, desserts, and foods, but I only tried an iced Americano and a couple small desserts. The coffee itself was a bit burnt but I didn't mind all that much. And, the desserts were also alright. They aren't as good as if you were to go to a specialized bakery, however, for a place open 24/7 and a small bite with friends while hanging out, it isn't bad. If this place weren't 24/7 I would rate it a 4/5 as the food is meh, but I just love how convenient this cafe is! read more

Came here late in the evening. Everything in the area was closed. Fortunately for me I ran into a gentleman in the lobby who said I know the beat late night spot in the area. We ended up here. It was about a 5 minute walk from my hotel. Can't remember what I ordered, but it was phenomenal. Price was right, service was great, and the food hit the spot. Isn't Breka open 24hrs?? I don't understand why they close one washroom at 7pm, when clearly this is an extremely busy location and many people need to use the washroom. Doesn't make any sense to me. SERVICE IS WAY SLOWER THAN BEFORE. It wasn't that busy. Maybe 10 people in line. Just to the inside of the doors. Ordered steak and cheese. And a half sweet mocha. Sandwich ordered initially. At cash added the mocha. The steak wasn't ready yet after paying. And then 4 mins later managed to pick up the sandwich. Drink wasn't even started yet. Speed wise they definitely decreased. And the girl making the drink was so busying chatting she gave me the drink didn't have a lid on it didn't offer me a lid either. Had to reach up and grab one off her espresso machine myself. Not a single familiar face. Turnover must of been high since I last came here. Sandwich quality is still there. Drink is just as amazing as before Just slower service speed, lack of attention in some areas of service. Displays are crisp and clean to look at, easier to see the food, prices just as good as before. They finally got rid of the bread rack above their counters. It looks so much nicer. Overall. A 24/7 bakery with sweet and savoury treats? Why isn't this available in Toronto?? I can just imagine the popularity this would have with university students who need a study snack, time-strapped business people who need a quick lunch, and hungover people who crave something warm and slightly unhealthy at 4AM. I was lucky to be close enough to two Breka locations and both had incredibly impressive amounts of pastries. Like stretching across a whole side of the store. This one on Bute street is a bit nicer than the one on Davie but the food is the same (I think). The selection is overwhelming: practically any type of pastry you might dream of from cookies and danishes to whole cakes and loaves of bread. You can ask them to warm it up and then take it over to the nice sunken sitting area to enjoy. And let's not forget the cafe part in 'Breka Bakery & Cafe'. They've got a selection of all your favourite coffee and tea classics. There's also a couple of seasonal flavours thrown in. When I was visiting, it was lavender season and their lavender tea latte was perfectly steaming and not overwhelmingly floral. Also saw Hojicha on the menu, which I would have loved to try. read more
