Biscuits & Gravy with hash browns and fried eggs.
Corinna L.

Searched for best cafe in Neenah and Pappa's popped up. Decided to give it a try and it didn't disappoint. I got the biscuits and gravy, hubby got the corned beef hash. Both were excellent. Food came out extremely fast even though it was very busy inside. They also had a Santa making rounds and he sat and chatted with us for a bit. Kids in the restaurant were loving it. He told me I was naughty, so clearly he isn't the real Santa. Lol. Nice experience all around. We will be back!

Food was very good and they had a nice selection. Comfortable atmosphere and friendly service. We've lived in the area a long time and just discovered this place today

I'll try to post pics of the chocolate chip delight my grandson had. It was impressive. My golden omelet was very good too. According to the sign they have been in business since 1987 and for good reason! It has the good ole diner feel that I look for. I recommend!

Hash browns appear more cooked than they actually were.

The edges and bottom of table were filthy. Crusted with food particles and sticky slime. How hard is it to wipe the edge when you wash the table? Ordered the biscuits and gravy. The description did say sausage gravy. The sunny side up eggs were done right. There was zero sausage to be found anywhere in the sausage gravy. Hash browns didn't have much brown. Should have been cooked a lot more. There was actually quite a bit of undercooked potato. Friend ordered the same thing with scrambled eggs. Said his hash browns were also undercooked and even watery. He mentioned that there was a lot of pepper in the gravy and also that it had zero sausage in it. His scrambled eggs were overcooked to the point of being rubbery. Waitress did a good job throughout most of the meal until after putting the bill on the table. At that point things got very rushed even though the place was less than half capacity. The parking lot has a massive depression in it that was still ankle deep from last night's rain. Weeds growing in the cracks along the building. The inside could use some sprucing up including fixing rather than covering up cracked or loose floor tiles between the dining rooms.

Mr Vogt enjoying a cup of coffee after enjoying his $.99 burger and fries special!

We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.

The food today was just okay. I had the fish, and it was good. The birthday boy had a steak and he said he enjoyed it. Two others had sandwiches, and they appeared to be satisfied. Two at my table ordered Chicken Cacciatore and they both said it was too salty--really salty--as in, they didn't eat it. I did mention it to our server who was very gracious and said she'd pass it on to the chef. Again, generally good, but they just didn't hit it out of the ballpark today.

Cozy atmosphere and solid customer service, definitely in the right place. We arrived with a veteran couple. They got us there early, understood the ordering routine and found us a place to sit. We ordered appetizers and drinks. Definitely get the onion rings as they are incredible! Drinks were solidly poured and reasonably priced. We ordered and were surprised by how quickly we were seated. The vegetable tray and bread basket were good. Our meals came out shortly after we were seated. The salads were nice sized and the blue cheese dressing with crumbles was great. Our entrees (ribeye, tenderloin with chicken, prime rib and fish) were all sized nicely and prepared as ordered. My dining partner said the chicken was some of their all-time favorite. My ribeye was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. Our dining partners loved their choices. Overall, I'd really like to give 4.5 stars, but my pals at Yelp still don't trust half stars. We all enjoyed our experience and will definitely put this on our list of supper clubs to return to!

The place is newer and very comfortable with a great bar, if you need to wait a bit for your table. We waited only 10 minutes and we did not mind. At all. A cut WAY above the rest are the Classic Old Fashioneds, served the way they should be -- heavy on your choice of bourbon and very light on the soda. (Definitely NOT Wisconsin Style.) I had a smoked Old Fashioned that was one of the best I've ever had! But the meal got better! A salad bar is not a requirement for a fish fry, but it sure goes a long way. Fresh, tasty, and a great way to start the meal. We both ordered the perch. I had a baked potato side and he had the fries. Best perch we've had -- light on breading, hot and not oily at all. Service was excellent and we decided to have a second Old Fashioned back in the bar for dessert. We'll be back!
