Curbside is ridiculous. Twice now when I got my salad it didn't have a fork in the bag so I have to go inside and ask for it . Papa's did not let me down. We ordered both baked and raw oysters. The baked ones tasted pretty good, but the raw oysters are my favorite hands down. They were so fresh and appetizing! I ordered the blackened catfish as my entrée, which could have fed two people. As I expected, the food was pretty salty - as Creole food typically is. I prefer to come here for their happy hour, otherwise this joint is overrated! Being from Louisiana I am extremely picky about my seafood so this place falls in the ok category for me. The catfish beignets are absolutely outstanding but are only served during happy hour!! The shrimp are absolutely flavorless. This place is downright overpriced for their product. Let me first start by saying I LOVE PAPPAS SEAFOOD HOUSE AND PAPPADEAUX'S...just NOT this location! The quality of food at this location is not up to par with other locations I have visited! I love the seafood cobb salad and I get it at least twice a week, albeit not from this location. I always order it to-go from the Pappas close to my job. This location is closest to my home, so whenever I crave this normally delicious salad, I call it in to pickup from this location, since it's closer to home. But each time I have called my order in to this location I have been very unsatisfied with the quality of this delicious and expensive salad. This last time is the absolute last straw and I will never patronize this location again. The salad was missing ingredients, wilted, and had ingredients added that are not supposed to go in this salad! I know what goes in this salad and trust me feta cheese does not! It's almost as if there was a old Greek salad sitting back in the kitchen and they tried to make it into a cobb. Also the salad didn't have hardly any spinach or greens in it. I contacted the manager and he advised me he would have someone contact me, no invitation to return the salad! Apparently management nor kitchen staff care about the quality of food, it shows! A total disappointment. Service was subpar, not even mediocre. We wanted to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary with our children at nice place. Instead it was evening of frustration. Even the food did not meet expectation. It was unusual because normally we have a very pleasant experience at any Papa's restaurant. It was a Saturday night so the 45 minute wait for table was expected, but it was after being seated that things went bad. It always seems strange to get seated in very back corner of the restaurant. Especially went the plant in the corner is tickling the back of your neck and tapping you on shoulder. You always suspect being seated in the back corner means you will be ignored. In this case it was true. It took a few minutes for someone to a take our drink order, but it was busy Saturday night. We ordered a few beers. Luckily were placed our entire order at same time. If not I am not completely confident that our order would have been taken. Our appetizer came and was eaten with no beer. Our entrees arrived a minute before our beer. That is longest I have ever had to wait for an eight-dollar beer. I regret not leaving the table and walking to the bar myself. The fondue appetizer was also a disappointment. Evidently, they have changed the presentation and the recipe. Portion seemed smaller and not as tasty. One of the glasses of water was served in a glass that was cracked. It was fairly sizable crack, it was amazing the water was not leaking. During one of the early and rare occasions that we actually interacted with server; we requested another water in fresh glass. That took even longer the beer. In fact, when another server actually took the time to check in, we had to request the fresh glass of water for a second time (maybe 20 minutes later). I suppose the lesson is never go to Pappa's when it is crowded. If there is wait don't bother. I might have been able to forgive to bad service if I was at Denny's or Chili's, but at $40 an entrée it seems inexcusable. Waiting 30 minutes for an eight-dollar beet is also crazy. I might have thought about dessert but after the lack of service I took the first opportunity to request the bill and get the heck out of there. We always considered Pappa's a failsafe. It might be pricey but it always a very good experience. That is why we chose to celebrate our anniversary there. Not anymore. read more

Since the hubs won't come here because he doesn't like seafood (even though I keep telling him they have chicken, too), I like to come here for business lunch. Lots of stuff on the menu with cream sauce and rice, which I don't like. So when I saw the "Naked" fish options, I got super excited (yeah, it's the little things in life that excite me). I ordered the Costa Rican tilapia, which comes with a green bean potato medley. It tasted as you would expect, like tilapia! LOL. But I felt good about myself because I didn't have something with cream sauce. I also like their oysters on the half shell and like to put Absolut Citron on them ... makes 'em taste good and gives me a buzz! Home of the Ritual Best Friend Lunch. Every time I come home to Houston, my Best Friend (BF) and I have to go to Pappas at least once. We order the same thing every time. We share half of the meal. SHARED: Greek Salad for Two on Romaine Only (because I'm allergic to iceburg) and an Extra Bowl of Kalamata Olives - Salad made table side with all the available ingredients... cucumbers and pepperoncini peppers are carefully picked out by BF and put on my plate. Shrimp Cocktail Acapulco... Martini glass with Shrimp Cocktail, Pico de Gallo, Avocado, and Cocktail Sauce. INDIVIDUALS: Bowl or Cup of Crawfish Bisque: Too Good To Share, even with your Best Friend 1/2 dozen Oysters On The Half Shell... I get this and BF just stares at me and shivers until they are all gone and the plate of ice is removed from the table. We never have room for dessert. We have never had bad service. We were visiting the NSSA Center in the morning and went to this place after that. The general atmosphere and decoration of this restaurant is nice, but the food is really mediocre. We order a fried seafood platter, a grilled mixed seafood and two gumbos. The clam chowder is fine, but the fried seafood platter tasted terrible. They put too much salt and spices made it hard to taste the original of seafood. The grilled platter too. After finishing the meal, we felt like eating a half jar of salt and our kids were so thirsty in the afternoon. read more

Stopped by Papa's while in $ Houston for lunch. Atmosphere is nice with warm friendly service. The wife and I split the special - stuffed flounder. This came with deboned flounder stuffed with crab stuffing and topped with shrimp. Very tasty, would highly recommend, though tribe fish and shrimp were just a touch over cooked. For appetizers we had the house salad (try the Greek dressing - very good) and the fried zucchini. Bothe were delicious. Great place for lunch or even a romantic dinner. read more

I always enjoy the food at Pappas! I have never had a bad experience here. My favorite menu item has always been the Mississippi Catfish Opelousas, which is DELICIOUS! The lemon garlic butter sauce with blackened oysters, shrimp, and jumbo lump crab is just wonderful. The last time I ate here, however, I went with a friend, and we started with appetizers of Oysters and Shrimp Cocktail. My oysters were awesome, and my friend really liked her shrimp cocktail. For my meal, I ordered the lunch portion of the Blackened Catfish, which came with a Shrimp Etouffée Pistolette and Jambalaya. My all-time favorite fish is catfish, and this definitely did not disappoint. The seasoning on the fish was great. Plated underneath the filet was the jambalaya, which also had a nice flavor. Alongside this was the pistolette filled with shrimp etouffée, and it was awesome. (If you have never had a pistolette anywhere, you're missing out!) My friend ordered the Crispy Stuffed Avocado as her meal, and said it was great. We also both had a glass of Pinot Noir, which was nice. Overall, the staff was friendly, and we had a great experience. I will certainly come back for more! read more

Came in here on a Friday with a 30-35 minute wait. Nothing out of the ordinary. We sat down and Paul did a great job telling us the features of the night and had a great personality. We tried the Parmesan crusted scallops for the app and I couldn't eat more than one. There was either too much Parmesan or too much seasoning but something made it rather bitter, almost burnt tasting. I ordered a Blue Moon and the seafood salad and added crab. The first time around there were shells in the crab. They happily replaced the salad (sans crab) and the seafood was good, not great. The dressing, however, was much too sweet and overpowered the whole dish. I told our waiter I couldn't eat it but would be more than willing to pay for it. The manager came and stated it wouldn't be necessary as it was inedible. My gf got a Swampthing and it was like drinking sludgy fruit syrup. $12 was rather ridiculous for a drink that was a struggle to finish half of. She got the halibut/lobster feature that was decent. Not worth $50 but the portion was well. The food was subpar but the staff is wonderful. It was ridiculously noisy and there were loud children with louder, drunk parents at 10 o'clock at night. At least the bread was good. Not worth spending roughly $100 overall, even after my $30 salad wasn't included on the bill. Overall, I don't understand why people keep flocking to Pappa's chains when there are several better priced, better tasting places to go. read more

Pappas on 45 is a pretty standard staple in the Pappas Baybrook row. It is located south of Pappasitos on the East side of I45N. Can be a little iffy to find if you aren't on the feeder. This location is a bit harried in that it is right off I-45 (on the slow side) across from Baybrook. In that sense, it is kind of nice to go to because you have to drive a ways to get to it if you are part of the mall crowd, which thins out patrons considerably. Waiters are always knowledgeable and responsive in true Pappas fashion. Although the menu is very similar to Pappadeaux, the House lacks the character /ambiance Deaux brings. Lots of carryover items (I don't know which concept came first) such as the fresh catches, gumbos, bisques, the Seafood Fondeaux, Beignets, Etouffees (Crawfish over Shrimp, always!), Mixed Seafood Grill, and the deserts are similar/same (brulees, key lime, cheesecakes). Pretty good happy hour, but it starts and ends very early (3-6pm). Good place to get oysters. Avoid the fried pedestrian food....they have a whole menu of it, but where these places shine is their fresh catch dishes. This is a great place to change from one of those people "who don't like fish" to one who adores fish. Just ask your waiter; he or she will steer you right. Blackened Mahi, rare Tuna, stuffed Flounder, grilled Halibut, Cedar Plank Salmon = always a win. I recommend the Mixed Seafood Grill skewer (share with someone) to try a little bit of all the fresh catches including shrimp and scallops. Amazing. And then a creme brulee or five. I also appreciate that this branch absorbed a lot of the employees of Deaux #13 in Seabrook (my old store) when Hurricane Ike came through and destroyed it in '08. Especially for back-of-the-house employees. Pappas is good people, and I hope they never go the way of Landry's! Was proud to work for them. I'd love to work for corporate. Still waiting on Pappas to re-open a Pappadeaux on the south side/Clear Lake. What are we waiting for? Seabrook needs your ambiance! All our good cajun places are gone. read more

Papas had been one of our favorites. We dined out for my husband's birthday and started with one dozen of fresh oysters. They didn't look fresh as usual; maybe it's not the oyster season. Trusting Papa's restaurant, we ate them. However, at least 2 oysters tasted awfully (spoil if not rotten) The smell and taste were so bad it ruined our dinner, and the manager came out to apologize and gave the replacement for two. However, we felt that entire dozen of oysters were bad. We were angry that we already ate some of spoil oysters. At least, we felt we should not pay for the oysters which ruined our dinner costing over $100. Maybe due to spoiled oysters, steak and lobster were too dry. The restaurant charged the oysters. It was a very bad experience with Papa's. We have been many different restaurants; we never have seen any restaurant charging spoiled food. Most importantly, we hope that we don't get sick. They seem genuinely concerned and protective of their brand as well as the goal to ensure that its patrons receive the very best user experience. This is to be admired. I was asked to re-visit Pappas and give them another opportunity to shine. They deserve the same praise in the public manner in which I chose to voice my concerns. I chose to eat at PAPPADEAUX SEAFOOD KITCHEN 12109 Westheimer near Dairy Ashford. The food was excellent (Pasta Mardi Gras and Mixed Seafood Grill) and consistent. Every employee which I came in contact with greeted my wife and I. They were friendly but not too personal. The staff seemed to be operating under a team leader/manager who realizes that anything can negatively impact the experience of anyone dining out and they clearly seeked to provide total customer satisfaction. NOTABLE MENTION: Donyell - She was friendly and pleasant. She offered my wife and I complimentary soft drinks while we waited for our meal being prepared to go. They changed the grits to these bland vegan grits WHY NOT JUST HAVE A VEGAN OPTION INSTEAD OF GETTING ROD OF THE YUMMY GRITS JUST HAVE TWO OPTIONS like really. So what do you do when you are shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond in Clear Lake and are reaaally hungry for seafood but don't want to drive too far for it? Uhh... you go across the parking lot for Pappas Seafood House. The food is completely decent. We went on a Sunday, and started out with a cup of gumbo. I am no gumbo connoisseur, but the soup was mild enough for me to assume it wasn't completely legit. Nevertheless, the soup was good, with a fair amount of shrimp and other seafood. Apparently, the soup used to have oysters but not anymore. Eh, I still had all of it! For my main entree, I had the jumbo shrimp brochette, my bf had a fried shrimp dish and his mom had the mixed grill. The portions were a little too big, but that's not necessarily a complaint. For dessert, we had coffee and a ridiculously chocolatey cake. The food is good for a chain. My only recommendation is that you don't come on a Sunday at all. Ever. The service is very slow. Even though the waitstaff is friendly and professional, it is hard for them to be attentive when they are ridiculously understaffed. This place seems to be good for lunch (although we didn't take advantage of it, they seem to have very good deals) and for large parties.
