Menu is online so we called ahead of time to place our orders - we both got 1 crab cake which comes with two sides (mac n cheese, potato salad, french fries, etc). Unassuming place - I knew nothing about the establishment so was a bit surprised to see it mostly as a takeout place (restaurant across the street). Fairly popular as there were people ahead and after me in line. Was a bit disappointed at first that the amount of food seemed little! The sides at least could have been more generous (tip: they are more generous with the fries). However, paired with a salad I tossed at home and slowly savoring helped me realize that the amount of food is decent. For sides, potato salad and macaroni salad were also very good; the Mac n cheese not so much so. The crab cake was delicious though - every bite was full of flavor with lots of crab meat. They constantly over served this patron who kept touching me and tried to make it my fault. As a woman, I would be extremely cautious if deciding to go to this place. The 2 stars is for everything except the crabcake that was about 3. . . Came in last Saturday. It was my first time. I was craving crabcakes (I live near Koco's but was trying something new) and these are Oprah's favorite right? There were a bunch of kids working. The prices were reasonable. I ordered a crabcake platter (what I came for) with fries and broccoli, a single piece of fried flounder, a HALF pint of cream of crab, and the special (3.95) which was shrimp tacos. They don't give refunds which bothers me because how do you correct issues? The cashier only heard pint and not the half. I wasn't doing math in my head and I didn't receive an itemized receipt so I didn't realize until I looked at the chef's ticket on my bag. I saw what I thought was an extra soup. I mentioned it and they basically said they couldn't do anything because no refunds -_- So yea have the 16 yo taking your order read it back to you before paying to avoid this totally easily fixable situation. The crabcake was good. Not the best or worse I've ever had. The flounder was fine too, seasoned appropriately. The shrimp in the taco was small-medium and a little fishy, probably why it was the special in the first place. The sauce was actually decent but there was literally 3 pieces of cabbage in each one. The tortilla was regular soft taco size but there was so little ingredients it felt too big. Use more cabbage/slaw, larger shrimp, a smaller tortilla, or all three and the problem would be solved. The soup was literally old bay flavored cream. It was almost inedible because of how salty it was. I saw more crab atop the deviled eggs in the shop than I received in my entire $10+ pint of cream of crab soup. I will NEVER purchase that again. I tried Pappas 2 weeks ago and was disappointed. I ordered the crab cake meal that comes with 2 sides. As my sides I ordered a baked potato and side salad. The crab cake was a good size but lacked the signature Old Bay flavor I'm accustomed to. The baked potato was standard. The salad had a bug (maybe more) in it but couldn't stand the thought of finding anything else in it, so I threw it out (and I loathe wasting food). I called and left a voicemail about my experience but haven't heard anything back yet. I wish I had a similar experience to others who rave about this place. Have eaten there before, always satisfied with the crabcakes. This time it was a carryout, a raw (intentionally uncooked) crabcake and caprese salad. A gift birthday lunch for my aunt. So I can't comment on the quality but it was a bit of a stretch calling the caprese a "salad' , it consisted of 3 tomato slices and 3 mozarella slices. I would have complained but had waited 20 minutes for this carryout to be put together and didn't feel like spending more still more time and been late to my Aunt. Also, the carryout situation there is confusing. Their carryout shop moved a significant distance away. But they also still have a carryout window at the restaurant. For a house warming present my parents ordered me the meal for two (2 crab cakes, 2 stuffed shrimp, and 2 crab soups). Living in Florida it's near impossible to find a decent crab cake unless you make it yourself. Having never had seafood delivered I was a bit skeptical of receiving them. Once they arrived my worries were put to rest, the package was well insulated with several ice packs so the food was nice and cold. The package included easy instructions so there was no way to mess up. The crab cakes were good size with very minimal filling and had giant chunks of crab. My first bite reminded me of being back in Catonsville. The shrimp were big and has plenty of stuffing. The imperial sauce that they were topped with was delicious. I've had plenty of crab cakes in my life and this one certainly didn't disappoint. These folks have all kids and don't listen or don't know how to do the tasks ! We come on off 2 a month or so or more depending upon our conversation in carry out . They never listen to pack up cold separate orders from hot items . To this and we asked to drain water on Cole slaw or it's just horrible and we asked for the extra items we never get em unless we go back in two three times while these young dum kids expect huge tipis we give 'em always 12% this is more then we fell they should get . This place is a staple if you live on or around Taylor Ave and Perring Pkwy... I used to live around the corner a few years back and in the summer time you could smell the crabs and shrimp steaming. Going in this place was a small piece of Americana, no frills, no fancy decor. Just good well cooked seafood and fresh seafood to take home and make your cookout or dinner special! One of my favorites is the Health Slaw just like cole slaw but without the mayo. Its not someplace that you would drive across Baltimore to get to but it is a place that you rely on for the quality they give you!! Hot Damn! Crab cakes and steamers cooked or raw, for there or to go. I was on the hunt for the best crab cakes in Baltimore and a few web searches lead me to Pappas Seafood. We opted to get a few bites to go and eat them right there as we were in a time crunch and there was definitely more to eat and see. The crab cakes were golden brown. Lightly fried and they didn't ruin the sanctity if the crab. No wonder they won 20 awards in just 4 years! The steamed crabs are also supposed to be very good however they were sold out. That's usually a sign of them doing something right. Desserts are not made in house but don't cheat yourself. Get yourself a miniature cheesecake, mousse cake or slice to go. I've always heard about Pappa's crab cakes. About how they're some of the best in town. I figured I'd check it out to see if it was all hype. Well let me tell you, it lived up to its reputation. The crab cakes were to die for. Barely any filler, nice (HUGE) chunks of crab meat, great flavor. Honestly, of all the crab cakes I've eaten since I've lived in Maryland, these are easily in the top 3. I ordered the surf and turf - a 9 oz filet and an 8 oz crab cake. Cost was as expected, not overpriced. The filet was extremely tender and cooked perfectly to a medium doneness, just as I had asked for. It needed a tad more seasoning though - it was a little bland. Just a pinch more salt would have made it perfect. While our waitress was nice, she did make an error that was pretty frustrating. Another member of my party ordered a crab cake meal, and she apparently put it in as crab balls originally, realized she had made the mistake, and rather than voiding out the crab balls and putting in the correct order for crab cakes, she simply voided out the crab balls while forgetting to put the crab cake order in. So when everyone else's food came, she realized what she had done and put in the order for crab cakes. She said she put a rush request on it; however, we all had time to finish our entire meals and his food was still not out. It was frustrating, but it was a mistake. We all make them. In the end he got his food and it was great. The waitress was extremely apologetic, and the manager took 25% off of our bill. She also offered us free dessert. So in the end, they did fix it. My family is moving back home this month and we are hitting all of our favorites before we leave. We bought some jumbo lump crab meat. I unpackaged and felt the smell was very strong but made my cakes anyway. When the rest of the family got home everyone asked 'why does the house smell like a sewer?' When I called Pappas asking if I could bring their obviously spoiled crab meat back, they refused because I had made the cakes. I had bought the meat 4 hours previous to this phone call. What a load of crap. I ordered a pound of large fresh shrimp steamed unseasoned to go, and got home a box of smelly stinky fishy gross shrimp. I guess thats why they eagerly offered spices mild, medium or spicy to cover the fishiness. I had a hard time swallowing my $16 load of stink. I suspect that they didn't actually steam my shrimp but boiled it with that old stinky water they use to boil tons of other seafood. And the fishiness just went into the boiling water, and from boiling water onto my shrimps. Or just that the shrimps may not be fresh. Either way, it was a poor experience for me. I have had papas' blue crabs before and they were alright, crab cakes and other stuff are also pretty good, so I don't understand why this shrimp stuff is so bad. This is why you get two stars instead of one. I will never order any more "fresh" shrimp from you ever again. Fresh shrimp is supposed to taste sweet, not gross. read more

I've visited the carry-out location twice and was not disappointed. I got the same thing both times, oyster po boy and fried clams. The sandwich was enough for two meals and so good. The oysters were perfectly friend and the bread was soft. The clams have recently changed, but are still very good. The staff has always been friendly and the food was prepared quickly. This is the perfect place to stop and grab a quick dinner when I don't feel like cooking. They also have a variety of raw foods that I will definitely try someday. read more

Let me start off by saying that we LOVE Pappas the bar/restaurant. We have been there about 10 times or so (both Parkville and Cockeysville) and have never had a bad experience or a bad meal. We downloaded the menu, picked out what we want and I asked him to call before he left from work that day (this was last Wednesday - March 31st). Hubby called the number, and was answered like this: "HOLD" (No greeting, no please, just barked in the phone). When the man came back to the line, he said "What do you want?" I mean, for the LOVE of God, are you kidding me??? Hubby replied he wanted to put in an order for carry out. Man replies, irritated, "Yeah, WHAT do you WANT?" At this point, I would have replied with words I don't want to use on Yelp, but hubby asked for the order, starts requesting the side items and man interrupts and says "We don't have any of that. You can call the restaurant and they may be able to give you a baked potato. Maybe." Hubby asks, "well what sides do you have?" Man replies, "I don't know, maybe some cole slaw, I mean, WHAT is it that you WANT?" I will tell you that hubby went to Pappas restaurant after work, put in a normal order, waited for food and they were fine as usual. That being said, the brand is forever tarnished in my mind. I was SO impressed with the food, customer service, and the quick response to my first review on Yelp by the Ownership. The only thing preventing a 1 star review was the crab cake. The crab cake lunch was fine once it finally arrived, and I could have gone out to twice to Bo Brooks in the time it took. The service was bad. Not only did it take an inordinate amount of time to get our food (and it was not crowded) it also took too long to get drink refills, doggie bags and the check. Unfortunately that is not the worst of it. I called ahead to ask about specials, and was told they had a $12.99 lunch special. I also asked our waitress which of the three crab cake options the special applied to, and was told the middle of the options. We all ordered the middle option, but upon receiving the check I discovered I was charged full the full price of $15.99 each. When I asked why the supervisor told me the special was only in the evening in the bar area, and was not offered any satisfaction regarding the price or inconvenience.
