After an ex co-worker, who used to work here raved about how incredibly clean the kitchen was and how good the food is, I just had to check it out. I'm so glad I did because we had an exceptional experience. The service was top-notch and very much impressed us. The entire staff works seamlessly together to provide a smooth and professional experience. The manager even came to our table to personally introduce himself and even paid for our guacamole (which was really good by the way). The beef brisket enchiladas were very good as was the seafood enchilada. The margarita was surprisingly good and the icing of the cake was desert ( which we normally pass on but decided to try the cheesecake). OMG the cheesecake was to die for! Sooooo where do we start here? First off, this is not only overpriced, but overrated texmex at its finest. We somehow always end up spending 50-80 dollars just on lunch, a margarita, and a beer. The happy hour menu for food choices is relatively small. I will say that the queso blanco is delicious, especially if you add fajita chicken. The grand gold margaritas are always great. One of my favorite menu items would be the filet fajitas. I don't know that they are worth the 30 something dollars that they charge for them, but they're great none the less. Bartenders are always friendly. If I had to give a tip...it would be to skip pappasitos completely once you've had it your first and final time. read more

Came here for dinner one night after a big event. My family and I were so hungry which, unfortunately for us, the place was packed. Wait was like 45 minutes, but we remembered it being so good that it was "sooo worth it". Boy were we wrong. The waitress underestimated the wait time, so while there were people partying on the other side, we were dying of hunger near the bar. The actual wait was a good hour and a half. Aaaa! When we were finally seated, we waited another 45 minutes for food. When dinner came out, my sisters tortilla soup had no veggies or chips whatsoever. After complaining about it, the waiter seemed very annoyed by us and didn't even fix her soup. No refund or anything. No tip, either. I rate this place two stars only because my dish was pretty good. You've probably heard the saying, "Things are bigger in Texas." Well, I am here to tell you that is so true, especially at Pappasito's Cantina. This large restaurant, right next to the Doubletree Hotel in Austin, has a large open bar and dining area. On a Thursday night at 6:30pm, it was full of families (and lots of kids), guys getting beers, and VERY loud groups of Texas ladies out for some margaritas. Our server was very friendly (even though the hostess was pretty blah). We ordered margaritas, which were HUGE...fully oversized, but delicious! We opted for the made-by-your-table guacamole, which was a wise decision...very fresh and yummy. And our entrees were just absolutey enormous. Flavorful, slight kick, but still friendly to those who don't like things too spicy. My wife doesn't like too spicy, but we each went through the chips and salsa quickly. The other times we've been treated and decided to come here, I always get the fajitas and totally enjoy it. This time, I got the half rack of ribs because it is the Friday special. I ordered a beef enchilada and grilled shrimp combination plate and a drink and I spent $35 I think so I would agree, this restaurant is somewhat on the higher price point but I was pleased with the quality. The first two types of sangria I tried to order, the server said they were out of so I ended up with a drink similar to sangria but with rum I think. I did ask for lemon for my ice water twice and my server never brought it. I didn't complain because its just lemon after all, the server was nice and the place was packed as it was Saturday night. There was no sizzle, no steam, and worst of all our chicken fajitas were NOT strips of grilled chicken -- Instead, it was Rotisserie style chicken -- skin and all! Truly disappointed today. We have been going to Pappasito's to celebrate birthdays for over 20 years. We go today for my youngest son's 21st birthday tonight full of our normal expectations. Not the case. Our server Ryan was about as non-attentive as one could possibly be. I don't know if he was new or not but I was willing to give him a pass until the end. Everyone knows at the more upper-end restaurants that on someone's birthday the desert is free if you want it. Well I guess times have changed along with customer service. Our bill was $289. We noticed a $4 charge w/nothing identifying what it was for. We inquired & were told that it was for the the birthday desert. So we were kind of taken back & replied back: "Ahh ok, I'm guessing that the birthday desert isn't complimentary anymore?" Ryan's response was: "Oh that's my bad I didn't even look at the bill, I just brought it out." Hmmmm... ok "So do you need to take it back & take the charge off?" "No, that's just the way it goes, it's your responsibility." "Cool, now worries. We won't be coming back again." "Ok, have a good evening." Not to mention we never were asked not one time did we need refills or water. We had already overlooked that. Never brought napkins, had to ask another waiter for those. Just poor service overall. The whole experience was great, from service to food. First our waitress was so attentive and quick with assisting us. The food was nice and hot and there were such large portions for their lunch menu. I did like the fact that they had lunch portions because on the weekend that is not normal. The drinks were great as well. When we packed up to leave, the server packed our food for us and even provided extra tortillas. That was appreciated. The restaurant was clean and tidy. There was a bit of a wait but estimated at 49 minutes and took all of 10. I would go there again for something nice however a hole is the Mexican restaurant is just as good. read more

Had lunch here with a few of my coworkers. Staff was super friendly, especially when I was alone and it looked like my coworkers weren't actually going to show up (they all showed up like 15 minutes late tsk tsk). This place is kind of expensive but the food and drinks are very good. I had the chicken fajita flautas and the zombie margarita (which of course I got in a souvenir mug I got to keep for an extra $5!). The space between tables is pretty cramped, but luckily Pappasito's wasn't too busy while we were there (around 12-1pm on a Sunday). Would recommend this restaurant to friends! read more

They offer a very generous 25% discount to military!! We went with family, so 3 adults, a baby and a 5 year old, ordered the cam fire shrimp, large size of the filet mignon fajitas and queso with chips. The food was incredible, you can't beat the best meat, filet, with high quality fajita sides to boot. Served with a parsley butter sauce on top of the filet, cheese, sour cream, Mexican rice, beans, guacamole and pico. It fed us very well, we were stuffed. The queso is great quality and the chips are probably some of the best you can find in Austin. The service is friendly, great almost always. My only complaint, as I have seen on here in other opinions, the noise is a bit crazy. Its almost as if they need to add a second level to accommodate all the people who love high quality Mexican food. I'll keep coming back, you'd be nuts to write this place off, its too good. Ahhh we love this place. This is my fiancé's dads favorite place is Austin and we live kinda far but you bet we bring family here when they're in from out of town. You can make "priority seating" arrangements which you just tell them the time you want and as soon as you get there your name goes to the top of the seating list. The drinks are always so good but so big so be prepared! I usually get the chicken enchiladas which are always a favorite. I do wish they had chicken fajita tacos. My fiancé got the hatch chicken tacos and my mom got the chicken flautas but beware they are very spicy. Always get the queso! Also this place is super festive and I just love the chistmas style lights above the bar etc. it feels very nostalgic and fun. Be warned it can be very loud in there. read more

I don't see the negative star rating that this place deserves for tonight's lack of service, so I gave the lowest rating with a one star which is too generous. Family was celebrating my Moms 84th Birthday, and unfortunately not able to make a reservation at Pappasitos on Open Table or on their website. We called and our party of 6 was put on the waiting list for an approximate 1 1/2 to 2 hours on Thursday night 1/26/23. I received a text confirmation that we were out on the waiting list. So... 3 HOURS LATER when we never heard back that we were any closer to a table or even that our table was ready... by this time Pappasitos was now closed for the night... Extreme lack of customer service since they can't even follow up with communication they started, via text as confirmation we were in their waiting list! If you expect good service from a restaurant WILL NOT get that from the Austin Pappasitos. Done with this place- thanks for ruining a special family celebration night. I have been a customer at Pappasitos Austin from inception. Decades of business meetings, birthday, family gatherings. On March 4th, 2023 arrived at 2:00 for HS 40 year reunion of 5. First there was hair found in my food. Ernie the food manager took care of this issue with no problem. Emily another manager later approached our table to inform that our tones should be lowered. Her approach and delivery was in an overly aggressive manner. Other customers even observed her and stated she was out of line and rude. Pappasitos is always loud! Manager also checked in on us and was very polite. We began our appetizer with the Guacamole and for dinner I had the seafood Enchilada. Everything was delicious. I've been to a few places where my seafood was over cooked. This makes it less than edible. Not here. Food was excellently made. We ended our night with cheesecake. OMG!!
